Forms Data Controls :: FormView Is Inserting Two Records Instead Of Just One?

This FormView is inserting two records instead of just one.

I have a DetailsView control that accepts two different fields to be populated. I need one of them to be masked so that whilst something can be entered, no-one can see what is actually being keyed?
View 6 RepliesI have a listview that I automatically generated from a database table, enabling editing and inserting on the listview and the EntityDataSource that runs it.
I started customizing the listview templates so that I didn't have to see some of the fields (they're unnecessary from the standpoint of the form), and have alternately tried removing or hiding the unwanted fields. This pretty much patently results in me not being able to insert new records, although updating seems to work just fine. There are no error messages.
I then tried using InsertParameters in the datasource, but that didn't really help either.
In the codebehind I have an onInserting handler that should fill in some of the hidden/removed fields before the record goes to the database.
I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, and even my colleagues are kind of stumped. Why can't I insert records into this table/listview?

Here's the next instalment of my asp.net data access nightmare!
I've got a listview on my page, and when I run the page it correctly displays the data that it should. However, when I add data into the empty new record and hit the 'Insert' button the page posts back but the record isn't inserted. Annoyingly, I don't get any error!
The listview's datasource has an INSERT command and insert parameters specified. The button seems to be triggering the listview's insert method because the ItemInserting event fires.
With no error message to go on I'm struggling to figure out what the problem is. I have a feeling it's something to do with the makeup of the page. The listview in question is nested within an Accordion control and the listview's data source isn't set until runtime, when it's done in the ItemDataBound event of the Accordion control. As I say, though, it does RETRIEVE data correctly, it's just the inserting that's a problem.
I created a new, blank page with just this listview on it using the same code but not nesting it within any other control and hardcoding the datasource instead of setting it at runtime and that works perfectly, so I'm confident that my INSERT command, insert parameters and so forth are correct.
I've tried to get my listview to break, deliberately leaving out insert parameters and so forth just so it'll give me an error message but it never does! It's as if the insert isn't taking place at all, except that because the ItemInserting even takes place I'm assuming that it is.
I have a FormView in default insert mode.
When I inserted item to database, the Form refresh and return to all blank or standard selection.
What can I do if I want it keeps the last entered value after inserting record ?
I need this because there are many items to insert and only partial fields need changes from last entered records.
I'm joining 2 tables and using the formview. When I insert a record, I need to place the value of the max id + 1 of the second table in a field in the first table so that the tables are linked. I'm not sure where to put the value. I try to put it in the insert command and I've tried the select command but that doesn't work.
Table 1 - Product: ID, ProductNum, Brand, Description
Table2 - Brand: ID, BrandName
(Brand from Table1 is linked to ID from Table 2)
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
DeleteCommand="DELETE FROM [Product] ..."
InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Product] ([productNum], [Brand] VALUES (@productNum, @Brand)"
SelectCommand="SELECT Product.ID, Product.Brand, Product.Description, Brand.ID, Brand.BrandName From Product INNER JOIN Brand ON Product.Brand= Brand.ID"
UpdateCommand="UPDATE [Product] SET [productNum] = @productNum, [Brand] = @Brand ......"
I've Tried InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Product] ([productNum], [Brand] VALUES (@productNum, MAX(@Brand.ID) +1)"
or setting BrandID =Max(@Brand)
When page load it is invisible. I have a button1 onclick make it visible and people can input data the press insert. I set it invisible right in Formview Insert eventhandler code.
When people click that button1 again to add 2nd record the form appear again as desired. However, the data from 1st record is still there.
What code I can make in eventhandler to make sure when button1 is clicked the Formview does not contain any data from last entry ?
The formview clear the data from 1st record if I did not set visible/invisible.
Iam using the Gridview control for inserting the records in Database i placed the controls in TemplateField tag like Textboxes and DropDownlist but when page executes nothing is displaying in the control Is there any way to get it work or i must have to define the datasource for the Gridview Control????
<asp:TemplateField ...>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ..../>
And more textboxes like the above way but there is no Bound Field because iam going to insert the record in DB while placing the controls in Gridview Control
I have a gridview with 3 columns dropdown, textbox1, textbox2.
On pageload my gridview loads with one row i.e dropdown with databinding done with some values, empty Textbox, empty textbox2
i have add new row button
clicking on that i will get new row in gridview with dropdown with databinding done with some values, empty Textbox, empty textbox2
I have save button to save the gridview rows into DB.
Question:
I should not allow user to select same dropdown value in two different rows. How can i validate that.
I've looked all over for this problem but can't find anything that works. I have a details view bound to a database that when a user enters their details and clicks insert it will store the data and then send them to another page. I have tried response.redirect but that does nothing. I am using c# btw.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to add a validation of the textbox.text.length in a FormView and prevent the insertion of being made in case the text length is not compliant (less than four characters).
In the scenario when clicking the submit button an Alert should appear with xxxx warinig text. and the Insert command being prevented.
This is my FormView Insert Template:

I am using an ObjectDataSource in my FormView for INSERT.
Data inserts correctly to my backend SQL table, however as i am posting back a success/fail message to the same page, i have noticed that after a successful INSERT if it hit the Refresh button the INSERT is doubled up.
How can i stop a user pressing the Refresh button and doubling the INSERT?
Is there a setting somewhere or can i stop this programmatically within my ObjectDataSource_Inserting method perhaps?
I have a web page with a gridview & formview (master/detail relationship) combo. On page load the gridview shows all records from a SQL table. On my page I have a button that when clicked shows the formview in Insert mode to allow users to add a new record to the data. I have also added a column to my gridview that has a link. When a user clicks this link it hides the gridview and shows the formview in edit mode with the detail from the record selected from the gridview.
In my formview I am using a listbox control to allow users to select multiple values. The choices in the listbox are populated by a SQL data table. I have successfully written code to post the selected listbox values to my SQL data field during Insert. When the user selects a record to edit I have code in the databound event to select values in the listbox from the choices based on the value in the sql data field. This works as well. My problem is that I cannot figure out the correct code to update my SqL data when a user is editing the record and makes changes to the selected listbox value. I have included my design code for my listbox in my formview edittemplate and also my behind code that I have attempted.

I am using a formview to show data, with edit, insert and delete enabled. My problem is with the insert.When i click the insert, the formview changes fine to the template for inserting new data, the problem is it was allowing the user to insert the ID themselves, I have made this readonly, but how would i go about ensuring the ID key is made the next number in line? and that it is printed to this textbox?
View 1 RepliesI need to check for duplicate records before inserting them into the SQL database.Thus I have the following codes:
For count = 0 To GridView1.Rows.Count
If (GridView1.Rows(count).DataItem("Student Name").Equals(dtDataTable.Rows(count).Item("Student ID"))) Then
lblMsg.Text = "Records Existed"
End If
but there are error message. "Object variable or With block variable not set."
Using checkboxes, can the row of record(s) be inserted into a database? I am populating a Gridview. Done. A checkbox field has been added, when the user selects one or more rows, a submit button (which is not working) needs to inserting those records into a table. The insert statment will work outside of the page but is not working using the scenario I jut described. Is this task as I have outlined doable?
View 13 RepliesI have a Vendor table and a Vendor Contracts table.I have a ddl outside of formview that selects VendorID and VendorName from the Vendor table.
FormView gets the VendorID from the ddl attached to the Vendor table and populates formview with records from the Vendor Contract table with the same Vendor ID. The primary key of the Vendor Contract table is VendorContractID.
This works fine as long as there is only one vendor contract. If there are multiple contracts, the ddl shows the vendor twice and aborts when selecting.
If there is only one vendor contract, the vendor is listed once in the ddl and selecting it causes the record to display in formview and is updatable.This is related to an earlier post today solved by PeteNet.
I like asp:FormView because it gives me a flexibility to display a single record with an image, link and Paging on the bottom. And its very easy to databind to sql db table. But my question: is there any way to make FormView to change RECORDS automatically lets say every 5 sec. - Slideshow style?
View 6 RepliesI am doing a management system . What i am trying to accomplish is that when a user fill form relevant to management system the data should go into respective tables.How to accomplish this.I am using primary keys and foreign keys
View 3 RepliesI've been wracking my brains for a while. I have a master record that I want to add children to. In a database it's a one to many relationship with a foreign key in the child table.
I have a formview that I want to use to fill in all the master record info, and choose the child info from a dropdownlist, and click an add button, and have the add button add the child info to some control on a page. Then when the user clicks insert, the formview has an ItemInserting EventHandler that will handle all the logic for inserting the master, grabbing its primary Key.
So, I know what to do, I'm just not sure of what control to use, or what memory object etc., that I want to store the child info in until the master record gets created.
I'm sure this has been done a million times, but for all my searching, I couldn't find anything to help me. Does anybody have some advice or can anybody point me to an internet resource where this has been hashed out?
I have created a simple dataset with my ObjcetDataSource to my SQL table named Invoices and a new FormView. My form inserts are working 100% correctly, however after some testing i noticed the insert happens again if i hit the refresh button on my browser after an initial insert. I am currently submitting the form back to itself with a success/fail message returned on the page so that the user can keep inserting more records if they choose. This is done in my Inserted behaviour.
In my ObjectDataSource_Inserting code i am setting the values of a date prior to my insert. How do i stop a second INSERT from happening when the user refreshes the browser? I thought it was what IsPostBack was used for? Here is my code:

The code inside the event handler is not executed, even the debugger does not stop on break points inside the "SqlDataSource_NewAccount_Inserting" function!
Here is my code:

I am using VS2010 and target .NET Framework 3.5.
What is the best method in T-SQL 2008 for extending a table's records with the criteria of 'repeating' all fields but the Primary KEY e.g. Consecutive Date for the previous n Records.
So you have for example 7 records (Easy...2 Fields. Date and nvarchar) with th Date runing from Jan-01 to Jan-07
We want to extend the table by 21 records...so
Record 1,8,15,22 will look identical apart from the DateField.
Record 2,9,16,23 will look identical apart from the DateField. etc...etc..
I have tried a number of methods ...all coming up short....
I want to insert a large amount( approx 7000 records) of data into a table, My scenarios is that i need to check whether the record already exists then it will not insert it. Currently i am using a stored procedure for this which gets called for each record.
IF EXISTS(SELECT 'True' FROM MYTABLE WHERE ID = @ID)
BEGIN
--This means it exists, return it to ASP and tell us
SELECT 'This record already exists!'
END
ELSE
BEGIN
--This means the record isn't in there already, let's go ahead and add it
SELECT 'Record Added'
IF EXISTS(SELECT 'True' FROM [Aadil].[dbo].[SharePointSitesData] WHERE ID <> @ID)
