I have a detail view form consist of five fields my 1st field is jobnumber which is primary key i want to do that when user by mistake enter the duplicate jobnumber error occur that this is already used how can i do this ?

On inserting record, I want to check that for example if a user enters a telephone number for any record is already in the database then it should validate that the number already exists in table and you cannot enter a duplicate value.

User will enter telephone number in a simple textbox.

I have created two tables movie with this columns:[mid], [Mname], [Director], [Genre], [Stars], [Description], [Foto] and table rates with columns: rid, Rate, fkmid. This are in relationship one to many, i added one details view and selected Enabel Inserting because i want to insert in this two tables. Because it is not possible to insert in both tables at the same time i created one view selecting all of the columns from both tables and connected SQLDataSource with this view but still i can't insert data from the Details view to the tables movie and rates because there is relationship between this two tables, i get the following error:
View or function 'ViewRM' is not updatable because the modification affects multiple base tables. Does somebody knows how can i insert data from details view to those two tables?

I have a datagridview control that I'm using to display cache data to the end used on a web form. The issue that I'm having is that every time I re-run the application, and the cache data is re-generated... it loads duplicate data that's being displayed to the end user. I can't seem to figure out how to keep this from happening.
What I would like to have happen is that only unique data rows be returned and cached for the end user. Unless there are new data rows on the database that needs to be included in the cache data results...the previous data results should not be duplicated. I've tried to change a few properties on the datagridview control, but nothing seem to keep this from happening.

I have a vb.net page that has a editable detailsview. When a user wants to erase the data for a field, they highlight the data, and delete/backspace over it, and click update. However, the original data is still saved. If they are replacing the current data with new data, that works fine and updates/saves correctly. This problem only happens when the current data needs to be removed.
View 6 RepliesI have sqlexpress/Visual studio web developer default install, and have created a simple 1 table db in sqlexpress. I am able to connect to my database and browse and even edit tables through the Database explorer in visual studio, however when I try to create a details view control for editing , inserting and deleting records , none of these check box options show upafter I drag a details view control to my webform, and connect to my databse. The only account i have is the local admin on this system, and I am able to see my table data in gridview, but I just cannot get the "enable insert, enable delete etc.." checkboxes to appear when I add my details view control. Here are the exact steps I go through.
1. OPEN vstudio
2. Test DB connection in the db explorer by opening my database and editing a record.
3. Creating a new blank webform
4. Dragging the detailsview control over, configuring the data source, using localhostsqlexpress and windows authentication and the name of my DB "test". The connection test is successful.
at this point in design view, when I click the arrow to open the "details view tasks" I cannot see any checkboxes for inserting or deleting. My table data shows up fine, and I am using a windows authentication account which has admin privs. Im sure this is something simple, but I have been searching and searching and can't figure out what Im doing wrong.
Iam using the Gridview control for inserting the records in Database i placed the controls in TemplateField tag like Textboxes and DropDownlist but when page executes nothing is displaying in the control Is there any way to get it work or i must have to define the datasource for the Gridview Control????

The page you see below displays one entry in my database and should allow you to click the Validate button if the validation_code for that entry in my database does not already have data bound to it.Once data is bound to that particular database entries validation_code field the Validation button should no longer be displayed.The problem is that in my database some entries have the validation_code field filled in and some are null (empty) but the script is seeing every entry in the database as if it was filled in. So, no matter what is in the database for a particular entry, if any other entry in my database is filled in, the Validation button is disabled. I only want it disabled if that particular entry has data in the validation_code.

I'm trying to get a record to show up in a details view as part of a Master Details. I was able to get this to work by setting the visibility to true for the Details View in the Page Load event. I now want the details view to show up when the Select button is clicked in the GridView's template field using the onClick event for the button. I don't seem to be assigning the correct properties to get this to work though. what property I should use with this? I know I have to get it from the GridView and assign it to the details but haven't gotten it to work. this is the GridView:

I am creating roombooking website in asp.net.
and i am facing problem while inserting the record.
eg:
if the room is already booked from 1st march 2010 to 10th march 2010.and if anybody is booking the same room from 4th march to 9th march it should show error message stating that
this room is already booked from 1st march to 10th march.
I want to check for duplicate records,if the record is already inserted then "record has already been inserted" should appear or else if its a new record then it should be inserted.. This function is inserting even if it exists and showing the error msg..

I have on a page a gridview that can be filtered with one text box. I set up the gridview to show select and wanted to then connect a details view so that when you selected a row the entire details would show up. When I run it I get this error. Data keys must be specified on GridView 'GridView1' before the selected data keys can be retrieved. Use the DataKeyNames property to specify data keys.

View 1 RepliesI have a formview and inside it there are two textboxes taking integer as input.I put a condition that if both textboxes are empty then user should be notified that "Please put value in any one of the textbox".It is working very fine.From database side DBA checked that if user input any integer value in any one of the two textboxes and if it is already found in database then there is no insertion.The problem is that everything is working fine and i checked in the database that the record is also not inerting due to duplicate check but user is getting message that "Record inserted successfully."How to stop this message and how to notify user that you have entered duplicate value and transaction should also not been done. Means all inputs should be there rather than clearing textboxes that could be done when "Record Inserted."

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005 and sql server mgmt studio 2005.
I am querying sql server db and returning unique records, no duplicates when I return the records in sql server mgmt studio.
However when I bind the dataTable that I return it is showing multiple duplicates, meaning I see each record appear 8 times in the gridview, has anyone seen this or know what I'm doing wrong?

I'm thinking of using a modal pop up control that would have a details view in it. I currently have a details view that uses CSS Friendly control adapters with the CssSelectorClass attribute. Can I use the CSS friendly CssSelectorClass property with a details view in the modal pop up and style it as I'm currently doing with my Details View?
