Forms Data Controls :: How To Debug ListView Bound To SQLDataSource When Nothing Renders
Feb 12, 2010
This seems so very simple yet I am very stuck. Following some articles on the web, I came up with an ASP.NET web app page that is all declarative (no code behind) yet when it produces NOTHING I feel so totally stuck about what I've done wrong. Here is the entire little page:
I have a ListView bound to a database view (vw_Reunions). The Eval statements in the ItemTemplate render the data in vw_Reunions just fine but I have one in the LayoutTemplate that doesn't display. Can anyone tell me why?
I have a series of dropdownlists on webform in ASP 4.0. The first drop down is filled upon load, and then when a user selects a value from that list, it populates the second dropdown. To accomplish this, I have a SQLdatasource with a parametersource of the first drop-down list control. This works great, except when a user changes their selection from the first drop down. It performs the query, but then adds the list of items to the ones that were already there from the previous selection, instead of replacing it with the new data. Here is the code:
[Code]....
Do I need to do something on selectedindexchanged to somehow "clear out" the previous datasource? I can't find anything about this online, although one person seemed to suggest it was related to using a master page. (which I am using).
I have a ListView (in an update panel) bound to an ObjectDataSource (connected to an NHibernate object) and in the EditItemTemplate I use Text='<%# Bind("HideLocation")%>' to bind to a string property of the object.
When I click edit (twice, another issue I'm having) and view the code in Chrome, the output looks like this:
[code]....
why the value of the bound data (in this case: In locker 2317) is showing up outside of the text box instead of as the contents of the data?
i am facing a minor problem but can't find out its syntaxi have listview, and inside the template i have 2 labels, in design time i bind 1 label to one column thatis 'type' and depending upon this type i want to bind other labels to different columnsif type is question than 2 label will have to show data of question columnif type is job than 2 label will have to show data of job, so on........how to accomplish this,in databinding event handler i can check the value of typebut i want to know the syntax of binding 2 label in run time, with different fields using EVAL
I have created a asp.net webpage for viewing daily downloaded newspaper, saved as a pdf file in a selected folder (~/NEWS/{0}) within the web root directory. Also i have a SQL datasource linked, where the news table has two columns viz: date and filename.
I want to create a tiled listview where the date text is visible on the hyperlink. on clicking the hyperlink, the file name is retreived for the corresponding date and the pdf file opens in a fresh page.
I have tried going to the item template in listview and replacing the label control with a hyperlink control, but then not able to successfully proceed ahead.
I have a sqlDataSource to populate a grdiview ( simple ) . When I set the sql control to a stored proc that has 4 parameters and person a select * from table ignoring the paramaters it doesn't work. No rweturned results.
Background: I'm populating lots of asp.net c# GridViews and ListViews from a database and subsequently users may export them to Excel. I want export as native Excel (not html). I can't use office automation, and I'm using JET which works fine. I have no control over users' machines. Question: When doing the export, you have to tell Jet what type each field is, in my case "text" (varchar) or "numeric" (double). The difference is that if you export a numeric column, the users can sum the data in Excel, where as strings are exported with a leading apostrophe and so are not much use in arithmetic.
Currently I parse the first data row of the Grid/ListView, check if each value is numeric or text, and assign a type to the column accordingly. That works, except for when I have something in the first column which looks numeric but in fact is a text string. I don't want to parse every row in order to be sure I have the correct data type as some of these exports are quite large. When I load the Grid/ListView from the database, the database certainly knows what type each field is. So my question is... how do I extract the type of the database item behind a a Grid/ListView item? I could explicitly code it as an attribute on the item, but that's duplicating information I already have, if only I can get to it. I know that where I have a DataTable then I can get the underlying type from that, but mostly I don't have tables handy, just the Grid/ListView. Note that Jet will throw if you try to insert an empty string into a nullable numeric column. The way to do this is to omit that column name from the insert statement, or output a zero.
I have an aspx page with 2 controls on it - a GridView bound to a SqlDataSource control.Am I correct in thinking this is 2-tier ?If I were to replace the SqlDataSource with an ObjectDataSource, and make the database connections/calls/queries via a class in the App_Code folder, this would be 3-tier, right ?
This was a pretty disappointing moment - when databinding, using Eval("Contact.LastName") would work. It nicely evaluates the related Linq object's member LastName. If the "Contact" object is null, no error is thrown... instead the field is simply null.
However, the same does not hold for sorting - if there exists a null entry (this object does not have a Contact) then the LinqDataSource throws a NullReferenceException. This means that, if you ever have nulls on your foreign-key objects, you can't use sorting headers in the ListView.
This makes the feature moderately useless - I have to roll my own properties for every single field I'd ever want to sort on. That's insane.
I am trying to populate an (editable) gridview in ASP.NET with a table from SQL. I have a SQLDataSource set up for this. I also need to have this gridview be filterable based on parameters entered in textboxes. I have tried using ControlParameters for this and it works but the problem there is when all textboxes are empty I want it to display all results in the gridview. What it does is display nothing because no entries have parameters that equal "". Is there an easy way to do this that I am missing or is there a better way to go about it other than a SQLDataSource?
I have just run into a situation with a FormView control where any markup that is not given an ID and runat=server attribute is NOT rendered to the browser.
In other words, all of the extranneous markup (h#, fieldsets, legends, divs, labels, etc.) that are in my Edit Template DO NOT render to the browser at run-time. However, if I add an ID to any of those items and add runat="server" then they are rendered.
Has anybody every seen anything like this? Does anybody know what could possibly cause this?
I have alistview which Renders all images from the folder to display in the imageSlider but the Problem is in the javescript,i cannot rander all images and put it in the javascript, I wrote By hand One Image(id,description) on the javaScript so it displayed one image only i want to render all images ids and descriptions in the javascript which will be in the slider.data array
i want to implement this feature in listview control which is bound to objectdatasource... and in on mouse over i have to show the data from database again. when you mouse over the linkbutton then div popup with contents...how to imlement with listview.
I have a problem similar to the one found in this Question I have a ListView nested inside of another listview. The outer Listview is bound to an object in the codebehind.
Where someProperty is a List of another object(mySecondObject). The inner Listview needs to be editable and it is bound in the markup to another property(secondObjectProperty) of type List in the mySecondObject as such:
DataSource='<%# Eval("secondObjectProperty")%>'
This works fine to display the data, however I cannot figure out how to put the nested listview into edit mode. I am handling the OnItemEditing command and setting the EditIndex to the proper row however the mode of the nested LV never changes. I have tried every imaginable combination of updates panels and rebinding both the inner and outer listviews however nothing seems to work
I am simply trying to change the listView template based on a value in the listview data. I do have this displaying the information correctly. Except when I try to change the item template based on a value in the listview. My code is below ....
I have a ListView, I've setup to use an ObjectDataSource, I've created my Layout and Item templates, and I'm able pull and view a list of my data no problem. However I want to add delete capabilities to my ListView and my reference material tells me to go into the "Configure ListView..." option under the ListView's smart tag, the only problem is I don't have that option, the only three options in my smart tag are "Choose DataSource", "Configure DataSource..." and "Refresh Schema", what am I doing wrong?
I have anested ListView control. I also implemented a jQuery to automatically expand the TextBox control inside of the nested ListView Insert Template. The problem is, when the Textbox expand, the outer ListView control is not; therefore, the Textbox control expands underneath the buttons of the outer listView control. How do I expand the outer ListView control as the nested ListView textbox is automatically expand? One great example is in Facebook where if I add a response comment, it'll automatically push any comments below mine down. If nested Listview control is not the best way to do this, what are my options?
Does anyone have an example for how to create a Dynamically Templated Listview with prefernces page to specify which columns & column order)? Also the listview would also have Edit, delete and insert options if possible. And uses the n-tier approach with Bus Layer and does NOT use LINQ.
