Jan 12, 2010I have a gridview that is dynamically created and have finished all but one problem - I need for my code that is within a Public Shared Function to access a textbox string - In the below I need myinput to return the string so that my query's can use the variable - the below shows: Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
If I remove the "Shared" the error goes away however it crashes other parts. (if I hard code the text then all works as expected)

Feb 10, 2010I have a list with 2 sorts of items. Items that have actual values (1,2,3,4 etc) and items that are like group headings so all their values are set to 0. If someone decides to select a group heading - which has a value of 0, is it possible to redirect them to my 'Select an item' item which has a value of ""?
If worse comes to worse, I can just reconstruct the entire list, although if possible I'd like to avoid it.

May 11, 2010i have a small app. the database has two tables. Category(CategoryId, Category), Quote(Id, CategoryId, Quote) these two tables are related via FK (CategoryId). In my page i have a simple drop down list, button and lable. user selects a value from drop down list like 'politics', 'comedy', 'famous' etc and then they hit the generate quote which should fetch a quote from the quotes table by passing a value like 'politics'.
however, i need to pass an int value (ID) from my drop down since that is the value which will fetch corresponding quote using my SP but (1) how do i pass a drop down value's ID and (2) is the SP below correctly done?

But when the page opens the drop down lists always show the item that is at the top of the list. Not the actual item that is in the database.
So say the name John should be there in one and a car names honda. But instead it shows alex and acura. These are just examples. But it alwasy starts with the item at the top
