I created a ListView and attempted to delete a record using the delete button and native procedures. It failed and threw an error.Pass in a valid dictionary for delete or change your mode to OverwriteChangesIn researching this issue, it appeared there is a problem with the list view when deleteing and

I have a web page into which a user control is loaded. This user control contains a ListView. In the Page_Load event handler of the user control I have this code:
listView1.DataSource = TaskList; // Note: "TaskList" is a data table
listView1.DataBind();
It should be noted that the TaskList data table is actually instantiated in the web page. The user control then obtains a reference to it.
Everything described to this point works fine. Where I'm running into trouble is when I add a new row to TaskList. I had *thought* that the ListView control was dynamically connected to the data table, such that when I altered the contents of the data table in any way, that the changes would be automatically reflected in the ListView.
I have a ListView where I am trying to implement Updating. My update parameters are not sent to update command correctly. The value sent is the original value and ignores what I type into the EditItemTemplate. Running a trace on my SQL Server verifies this. In this example, I am only trying to modify [dedamt]. What is wrong?

I am working in asp.net 3.5 with c# and sqlserver 2005 as database. I my project i have to select some of the checkbox of a gridview and update the database according to that. I want to store all the selected box in a arraylist and update the database according to the selected list . But i am not getting how to proceed.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to pass the value of a dropdownlist to the Update section of a listview. The dropdownlist is bound to one datasource which needs to then pass its selected value to the UpdateCommand sql for another datasource. Here is my code:

I like to use my own stored procs as much as possible.
That way I know exactly what's happening and I can explain and control things.
I'm using stored procs with LINQ to SQL for CRUD operations.
For select, insert and delete - using stored procs with LINQ to SQL is pretty straightforward.
However, if I want to use my own custom stored procs with L2S for updates what's the best way to accomplish this?
Can you provide some code that shows the best approach that you would personally choose for this?
have an annoying problem. i'm trying to update single items in a databound listview. but when i click the update button it gives me the cannot insert NULL value. it doesnt seem to read anything from the textboxes which i have databound from the database. even though text is clearly shown...
i have setup my update statement and parameters, it uses the Update command name and ItemUpdating event. i catch the data from the textboxes by using e.ItemIndex and use the text assigned to the parameters in a SqlCommand.
The thing i'm aiming for too is that when an item is updated it stays on the page where the item was updated, (i was using response.redirect before but it went against my aim since the whole page reloaded)
I have built a web app and want the user to be able to select, update, delete, add data as well as execute stored procedures, I thought that I would get this from the db_datareader and db_datawriter roles but I get an error when trying to select data etcFor instance I get an error when trying to run the stored procedure ups_AddCustomer when the user has the assigned roles db_datareader & db_datawriter but it works fine when the db_dbowner but i would rather not have the page user having full access to the database.
View 1 RepliesIt should be simple, but I didn't found yet how to do it. There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. How I am doing it in C# code? Showing/Hiding these buttons?
View 3 RepliesI am using ListView for the first time. I have a requirement that in a listview if I Edit a record and before clicking teh Edit button of tthis record if i click on the "Edit" button in other record, my first record should be saved and second record should open in Edit mode.
View 2 Repliesi need to get data-bound items from outer listview to display in inner Listview, in this scenario:

Where the higlighted text mean the title for outer datasource.
ringht now i am working with one web page, in that page i have 3 sections of data [or 3 set of data] in 1 set 4 to 5 fields actions to be taken when we click on save button 1st it should save the 1st fields data in one of my sp and it should get the table level id it should loop that table level id into another set of records & insert into to the another sp
View 4 RepliesI have a situation where in a legacy app (VB6) I have a grid which is populated by any one of a large number of (100+) stored procedures. Each of the procedures returns one or more rows with an identical list of columns (including column names, column data types, column order). I am basically looking at the (best) options to keep things reasonably light weight. Each procedure has its own set of parameters, each of which would result in different query plans etc. I have tried using each query to exec select into a (temp) table which is encapsulated into a "master" query which then returns a single results set, but it breaks SQL, the query optimiser returns an infinite number of rows - this is a MS documented issue. Looking for possible ways forward: generics, model view etc

Now I want to bind others controls. But I am not getting that how dataset differentiate which data need to bind to which control. How I can do this.
I was reviewing my old post about this issue with a accessdatasource and that was simple since the Select, Update and Delete were all written within the datasource.
But this page im having issues with is using SQLDataSource and pointing to Store procedures. My issue is that i have created the sqldatasource with Insert(storeprocedure), Select(actual select statement), Update(storeprocedure) and was trying to take advantage of gridviews capabilities for editing when connected to a datasource that has all those elements setup.
Here is my datasource and gridview code: The gridview row goes into edit mode, but the changes never take affect on the database.

I am simply trying to change the listView template based on a value in the listview data. I do have this displaying the information correctly. Except when I try to change the item template based on a value in the listview. My code is below ....
View 6 RepliesI have a ListView, I've setup to use an ObjectDataSource, I've created my Layout and Item templates, and I'm able pull and view a list of my data no problem. However I want to add delete capabilities to my
ListView and my reference material tells me to go into the "Configure ListView..." option under the ListView's smart tag, the only problem is I don't have that option, the only three options in my smart tag are "Choose DataSource", "Configure DataSource..." and "Refresh Schema", what am I doing wrong?
I have anested ListView control. I also implemented a jQuery to automatically expand the TextBox control inside of the nested ListView Insert Template. The problem is, when the Textbox expand, the outer ListView control is not; therefore, the Textbox control expands underneath the buttons of the outer listView control. How do I expand the outer ListView control as the nested ListView textbox is automatically expand? One great example is in Facebook where if I add a response comment, it'll automatically push any comments below mine down. If nested Listview control is not the best way to do this, what are my options?
View 8 RepliesDoes anyone have an example for how to create a Dynamically Templated Listview with prefernces page to specify which columns & column order)? Also the listview would also have Edit, delete and insert options if possible. And uses the n-tier approach with Bus Layer and does NOT use LINQ.
View 1 RepliesIs there any way to enable alternative ListView (LV2) or any other control in case when ListView (LV1) returns no records from DB? I already have emptydatatamplate designed for this case, but I need to enable a new ListView below in this particular case and I don't know how to achieve this!
View 2 RepliesI try to datbind a listview which is inside another listview InsertItemTemplate.

I'm binding the listivew in the parent listview onitemcreated events. I receive the error Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.
I am having trouble finding how to solve the following issue :
I am using nested listviews to display Sales and Sales details.
The main ListView displays General Information about Sales and the child ListView displays the detailed information about one sale. the child listview is shown only when the user clicks on a link (see included code, DataBind is made on PageLoad) :
ASPX Markup Code :
[Code]....
C# Behind Code :
[Code]....
If I removed the datapager part, I can manage show/hide the child list view on the button click event. but if I want to use the DataPager with the PreRender event handling, the child listview is not longer shown on button click.
Ok, background first:
The form allows a user to create and edit one estimate.
Each estimate can contain multiple Jobs, which are represented in a ListView.
Each Job can contain multiple Parts, which are contained in a ListView that sits in each item of the Jobs ListView.
A user can add and remove as many Jobs as they want.
A user can add and remove as many Parts to/from each Job as they want.
I have no issues adding to each of these, but I do have a problem removing a single part from a single job.
For a reference, here is one Job in the Jobs ListView on the form:
I want to make sure that no matter what a user does, the part of the form they are working on saves what they have. Removing a row from that Parts ListView is no exception. What I want it to do is save the values in each of those textboxes and then delete the necessary row.
Here's what I have in the codebehind:
[Code]....
The EstimateRow variable I create does not get a value from theListView)HFERID.Parent.FindControl("LVEstimateRow") bit of code. There must be another level of nesting that I'm not accessing correctly, because it can't seem to find that nested ListView.
I have a datakey defined on my outermost ListView. When I click on a linkbutton in a row in this listview, the second listview is displayed. This inner listview has several controls and also a linkbutton. When I click this linkbutton, it gets handled by its own event; linkbutton_click. In this event all the data is collected from the innermost listviews' controls, and sends it to the database. The only thing I need within this event is the datakey from the outermost listview.
