I don't know what I'm doing wrong but for some reason I'm not able to maintain the index selected value on the listview that I've created within a user control. In a user control I have added a listview. I have exposed the handler, Datasource and DataKeyName. I have populated the datasource of the listview by using the following:

I have a function that constructs a datatable from a file that the client uploads. And I want to bind that datatable to a listview but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... Say, the datatable is like:
FirstName LastName
John Smith
Here's how my aspx looks like:

In my names.aspx.cs file, I do: lvNames.Datasource = dt; //dt is a datatable
lvNames.DataBind();
When I run my aspx page, the listview is empty, is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
I'm using a listview control to show a list of categories/subcategories
<%# Eval("SubCategory1")%> When the user clicks the SubCategory1 link, the list view should fill up with the next subcategory, SubCategory2. The problem is off course that <%# Eval("SubCategory1")%> is hard-coded. I need it to change to <%# Eval("SubCategory2")%>...and so on, as the user is drilling down into the sub-categories.
So is there a way to change <%# Eval("SubCategory1")%> dynamically?
I'm using VS2008. When a dataset is bound to the DataSource of a ListView, SelectedIndexChanged event does not fire. If I used DataSourceID instead, it has no problem. But SelectedIndexChanging event fires for both.
why and how I can get SelectedIndexChanged event fired when DataSource is used?
I'm doing research on framework development for my company. SInce I will be developing a framework I can not simply declaire all my control in the code in front. Receiently I've been having trouble binding the controls from my ListView to my ObjectData Source. Basicly the properties in my DataObjectTypeName are not populated when the ObjectDataSource "Update" command is thrown. I recieve no error, I just get null values. I have anested ListView control. I also implemented a jQuery to automatically expand the TextBox control inside of the nested ListView Insert Template. The problem is, when the Textbox expand, the outer ListView control is not; therefore, the Textbox control expands underneath the buttons of the outer listView control. How do I expand the outer ListView control as the nested ListView textbox is automatically expand? One great example is in Facebook where if I add a response comment, it'll automatically push any comments below mine down. If nested Listview control is not the best way to do this, what are my options?

I want to be able for the user to click the Select button, and then I want to populate the Literal control with some Data. I have it working, but I have to click the Select button twice to get the data to show. My code is below.

I have a class that returns a list of "Category" Objects. I'd like to display them along the left-hand side of the page in a listview (if that's the best way to do it, even).
The category objects have normal attributes. Title, User, NumberOfProjects. I'd like to display both the title and the number of projects in this list.
Not worried about editability right now as we might make that separate (i.e. not in-line in a list view edit mode).
I have a list view with a label that shows "Step #x", another label with the instructions, and then 2 linkbuttons for editing or deleting. At the footer of the ListView is another button "Add New Step" which opens up an empty TextBox and two buttons to save and cancel. I would also like it to increment the label, but I can seem to find the control in the code behind to change it's text. How do I do this?

all i am using Datapager control with ListView control in my application.where i bind my list view in page_prerender event. my problem is that Datapager control is showing the page records but when i click on the next page ( i.e. if i am on page 1 then clicked on page 2) it will not responding.
i am using my list view in update panel.is the problem with the update panel?

problem is that i am using mootools.js files when i disable these file my code is working fine but when ever i use mootools.js files with AJAX it gives me error.and some code is not working properly in my application....
is it possible to do something like this: Having a listview in my web form to calculate employee's salary, just about around 1000 employees at a time, but due to many conditions to calculate one's salary, the page cost too much time to load the data (about 25s-30s), now it's just nearly 100 employee, but if about the above number of employee (and it will be even more in the future), it will be unbelievable slow,
so I think of a solution like this, the page still load but it just calculate 20 employees at a time and bind it to the listview so the user can see some data to not see it's too too slow to load the page, and after that the page still loading to calculate the rest and bind data to the listview again and now it is 20 + 20 +........ = 40, 60 rows....... (the listview won't reload it just add new rows) I remembered that I saw something like this in Bing.com when load the image searching, and some asp.net gridview have the exact ability as Bing, the grid/lisview load data when user scroll down, but now I can't remember the link and the key words to search for it.
I used LINQ to retrieve data, I did compiled query, and some tweaks to improve performance already, yes, it so much faster than the first time but it still so slow after all.
Note: I have read about loading content while scrolling or scrolling continuous but it not load all the data one by one and bind the data to the listview, it just continue to load the data when user scrolling down and there is no end to it.

I have an array object with another nested arrayobject within it. I am binding the outer arrayobject to a gridview and on row data bound event i am refernecing the nested array object and populating a dropdown list in atemplate column of a gridview row. Thgis works fine but when i implement paging and handle the PageChanging event then the data binding of the nested array does not complete properly. See code below. In my Website I have header control (header.ascx) and footer control (footer.ascx).In header.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting search string.
In footer.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting Email-Id.
Now in validation of header.ascx I had done blank checking by JavaScript. And in validation of footer.ascx I had done blank-checking and e-mail checking by javascript.
In both the control the textbox and the button both resides under Panel control whose
DefaultButton property set to the respective button ids. So that if User write write something and press ENTER key from keyboard then it should do whatever respective Button_Clicks will do.
Now My problem is suppose I place the mouse cursor in footer.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER key it validates properly but after that if I place the cursor inheader.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER then it is not working. Again If I do the opposite then also first one will fire but in case of second it is not firing .......

I'm using a listview control to do a survey stuff. Everything is working perfect to present the data questions, to be answered text with the different type of controls radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists, dropdownlists, etc. The admin can modify, create, change questions, answers, etc. on the survey.When it's select, edit, or insert it's easy to find the control inside a listview.However, I'm wondering how to post user's answers back to DB. How to find controls inside the listview to grab the entered data/responses from there using let's say the submit button that is outside of the listview.I believe there should be a way to do it as otherwise why we put radiobuttonlist on a listview that somebody could click it and then we should be able to get that entries. Or I'm too optimistic on this control?
View 2 Replies I have a DevExpress WebChart Control that binds to a DataTable. The chart control renders fine from the DataTable until I try to import data from a details view(i think the chart control renders before the detailsview?).
Here is three renderings.
Chart 1. just rendering from the datatable
Chart 2 The sqldatasource gets its para. from the values of two label controls to render the detailsview. The detailsview renders fine
Chart 3, the problem comes in when I try to extract the values from the DetailsView to populate the Chart, I loose the value. I am assuming the the datatable is built before the rendering of the detailsview? Lost at this point.

I have a form in which I have a dropdown list and a list box.
This dropdownlist is populated by a column in thetable . This drop down list may have values ranging from 1 to 5.
This values in the dropdownlist are to be made the caption headings of the list view control.
For insance if there are three values in the dropdown there should be three columns in the list box with the heading as the values of the dropdownlist.for 5 it should be 5.
Also there are two additional columns which would be constant.
I have a details view in asp.net which I am dynamically replacing some of the controls using code behind (e.g. converting some text boxes to dropdowns). My problem is that I am unsure how to bind these to the field from the database on postback. I.e. I am trying to find the code behind equivalent bind('currency');
I can populate the dropdown with the current value from the database but cannot find how to save a new value on updating the detailsview.
