Forms Data Controls :: Set CollapsiblePanel ExpandControlID To Parent Row ID?
Mar 4, 2010
I have a Gridview with a template field which contains a select button to select a specific row.
I would like, when clicked, this button to expand a collapsiblepanelextender which is contained in another templatefield. How do I set the ExpandControlID of the collapsiblePanleExtender to reference the select button in the other templatefield?
I receive an error when I simply input the ID of the select LinkButton. The error informs me that there is no such control for that ID. I'm guessing because it is another container/parent.

I am currently trying to figure out the best way to handle a data formatting issue. I have a stored procedure that pulls back basically all the data I need, but using a gridview doesn't really give me what I need.
For example...currently the gridview displays data like:
Date1 ProjectCode1 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date1 ProjectCode2 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date1 ProjectCode3 Hours ApproveChkBox
Date2 ProjectCode1 Hours ApproveChkBox
...
I would like to be able to display the information like:
[code]....
Is there anyway to do this using a nested gridview? Or is there a proper way to display this type of format?

I have one parent gridview where each record will link to its details page (another child gridview in modal popup). May I know how do I store the values of the child gridview temporary (maybe in session) and repopulate the data into the parent gridview? Current problem is: once I click save in the child modalpop gridview, it binds the parent gridview before the child gridview data is stored in session. I want to store the data temporary until user click save in the parent gridview.

Am using datalist to create a kinsd of message board, in the back end am having two tables one for the parent comment , and other for the child comments
The data source is extracted by LINQ to SQL with the load option , so I get everthing when I debug on the code behind , and I can see all the fields each parent comment and the child comments.
the problem is with binding the data on the disply for example all the parent table fildes can be rendred without any problems:
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "comment1Parent") %>; "showing me the orginal post"
Problem here:
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Childcomment") %> is not rendred and I got this error msg:
DataBinding: 'DataAccessLayer.Comment' does not contain a property with the name 'childComment'.
In the debug I navigate to the childComment and this is its HTML visualisar:
new System.Linq.SystemCore_EnumerableDebugView<DataAccessLayer.Comment>(((ASP.usercontrols_comments_ascx)this).Comments)).Items[0]._comments_Replies.entities.items[0].childComment
I tried
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "_comments_Replies.childcomment")
Same as above error came to me.

I am using a collapsible child gridview inside a parent gridview. When I click on the expand image, the data to displayed is put up correctly, however when I make some changes in the child gridview, they seem to be lost!! That is, the changes do not get reflected in the database.

Considering three webpages. In all pages there are gridivews. The gridview columns has numeric data.
When user click on data figure suppose 29 then it redirects to other page with 29 records. In the redirected page if user again click on data suppose 12 then it redirects to another page with 12 records.
I want to give option to user that if form third page he wants to go back by clicking a hyperlink on that page then the second should appear in its previous state i.e. have showing the clicked value 29 and if he wants to go the first page then first page should keep and display its previous state with the searched data.
Page1>Page2>Page3

I have created a search page for web application that will allow a user to search the database based upon employee name or supervisor name. It is a multiple table database that is linked together by an unique employee number column, primary key in people and foreign key in supervisor. I have a parent/ child datalist used to display the record. When searching by the employee name it will return the record correctly if there is a record found. However, if I search by supervisor name and there is no match for the supervisor name, it will return all the records and create the parent datalist with all the employee details there, but the child datalist with the supervisor information is not display as there is no record with that supervisor name.

I have a Parent gridview with a nested gridview. Edit on the parent works fine. On the nested child gridview, when I click the edit button, the line goes into edit mode, but the parent row collapses. To correct I added javascript to call the javascript function that is used to expand and collapse the rows. It is located in the RowDataBound event of the parent gridview.
Based on the code samples I have, the way the process should work when the edit button is clicked is the RowCommand and then the RowEditing events for the child gridview are supposed to fire, followed by the RowDataBound for the parent. The child events are firing after the parent though. This wouldn't be a problem except that I am retrieving the parent line that holds the child record being edited so that value can be fed to the javascript function to expand the row. How can I fix this or work around it?

since APS.Net 4.0 I have a curious problem with an event.
There is a FormView and inside of the EditItem there is a GridView. In the Footer of the GridView I put Controls for inserting records.
But when I fire a markup defined RowCommand of that GridView then the same event is getting fired for the Parent FormView. First I had 'Insert' as the CommandName and so I was getting the Error that my FormView had to be in insert mode to insert a record. Then I changed the RowCommand of the GridView to 'xxx' and I got also the RowCommand 'xxx' at the RowCommand eventhandler of the Parent FormView.
The project was migrated from .Net 3.5 a few days ago, but nothing was manually changed in the code/markup. And the problem was not there with the "old" framework.
[Code]....
Of course, I could simply change the CommanName of the LinkButton e.g. to 'InsertChild' but I would like to know:
Is this a known change or a bug of ASP.Net 4.0?

I'm trying to create a CollapsiblePanel control, which is essentially just a panel which has a header which can be used to expand / collapse the body. I've got an example of it working on a page (inline) but now what to make it a reusable control that can be used as follows
<cc:CollapsiblePanel runat="server" Header="This is a collapsible panel">
<asp:Label runat="server" Text="This is the contents of the panel" />
</cc:CollapsiblePanel>
So, I want the CollapsiblePanel to render the header, the beginning of the container, then the contents of the container (i.e. the label in this case), and finally the end of container.
I'm unsure how to do this properly. I've seen some examples which override the rendering methods in order to insert controls at the right points, but it seems very hack-y. What is the 'proper' way to do something like this? (.NET 4.0 if that makes a difference)
