The GridView is a command "Edit"
But I do not want the information update within a GridView.
If click on the "Edit", the data can only change update within the GridView.
I wish to correct information in the control txtFirstName, txtLastName, txtAddress when I click "Edit".
I build a webpage to edit the data entry, all the textbox wroks fine. However when I update the value originally took in using dropdown list , I get error and couldn't get correct update.
View 2 RepliesI am using a DetailsView control to allow for updating a user record. Is there a way to check if the values are actually updated/changed when the update link is clicked. I know there are users, who would click the update button rather than the "Canel" even if there are no changes to the record. So, how do I check if any value has been updated when the update link is clicked. The DetailsView uses a SqlDataSource to populate the DetailsView.

View 2 RepliesI searched a lot of threads but still couldn't get my problem fixed. I have to update the "regform" table with two fields: session_ and session2. These two fields are inside the detailview edititem template which bounded to dropdown list drpsession1, drpsession2 separately. I wanted to pass the update parameters to the update sql UPDATE dbo.regform SET session_=@session_, session2=@session2 where id=@id
the @session_ is bounded to a drpsession1 and @session2 is bounded to drpsession2. I used
ControlID="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$DetailsView1$drpsession1" to access the dropdown list within the detailview, but still couldn't do the updates. What's wrong with my code? Do I have to use the code behind to specify the update parameters? and How to do it? TIA.

I have a gridview with edit field. It has a footer row for insertion functionality. Now i also have a fileupload control in footer for uploading files on server. The url of files are stored in sql server2005. Now i have a fileupload control in <edititemtemplate> of gridview which can be used for uploading files while updating of gridview.
Now my req is whenever i upload file with fileupload control in <edititemtemplate> it should update the url of corresponding file in sqlserver2005. My query for update in sqldatasource is-

I have formview , there is save linkbutton & upload control, same for insert template & edititem template. both save butons have name 'LnkSave'. without update panel it is working. but with panel not. i used trigger for control but it gives error like ' already definition for LnkSave button' . i changed name of save button in edit item template, yet it's not working.
View 3 RepliesI've been spending two days on this. My page formview is in a tab container and I need it to update, insert and display data. Insert and display are ok as long as the default mode is Insert. The problem here is edit mode, it's able to get values from the db(oracle) and display them in edit mode, but when I click save, any values I typed out on the textboxes do not get captured. When I call on my db update class, it just sends old db values. Here is the process: formview shows data selected from gridview, then an update button is clicked to edit the data. there is also a SAVE button to send updated data to db. Example: description textbox = "test", then I type out a different value, and in debug mode, the textbox.text still shows "test" after clicking save.

I am using a listview to show multiple labels with Book names and price.I have included a dropdown list in the listview. On index change of dropdown list price of book is changes.
I am using UpdatePanel to avoid post back. I hav placed "Loading.." image in ProgressControl.
But when i use dropdown list to change price then "Loading.." image is shown on all the rows of list view . but im just changing it on first row but image shows on all the rows.
It should be simple, but I didn't found yet how to do it. There is only one user (Admin with user name and passowrd, he has a cookie so I know when he is watching the page) I would like to show him the Update/Delete/Insert button options in my ListView, but to the other users I don't want them to be able doing this kind of things, So it should be hidden from them. How I am doing it in C# code? Showing/Hiding these buttons?
View 3 RepliesIn my Admin page, I have a drop down list containing all current user tables in the database. The user chooses one.
My DetailsView below uses that parameter to populate itself with data from that table. The stored procedure used to select the data passes a string to sp_executesql. The string is concatenated from a select statement and the tablename parameter. Can I do something similar for Update/Delete statements? I'm not sure of the best approach, given that I won't know which/how many fields will be in the DetailsView at runtime, and which of these are keys - the choice of table depends on the user. I think Insert will be straightforward - am I right? I would like to streamline things as far as possible. Is it possible to dynamically pass in the values in, say, a string, and get my stored procedure to understand them? And what's the best method of grabbing the values from the DetailsView in this situation?

I'm doing an MLM website and I have a table that holds parent-child relationships as well as the position (L or R) in the binary tree and the Level. Top node is level 0, his two child records are level 1 and so on. I'm lost as to how to find the next available node that doesn't have 2 child records associated to it. This is for tree placement when I register a new distributor in the tree. I need to find out the first record that doesn't have 2 child records to assign the newly created distributor that sponsor id. I also have to assign the new distributor a position (Left or Right) in the tree. If there are no children in the tree then I assign them L if there is a child already then I assign them R. Is this better to do with SQL queries or bring in the data and parse through the tree to get the answers?

i have a gridview that contains a couple of bits of information (email and and emailId) that i want to get and update to a database.
