i have a form with a gridview that does the edits. I have a detailsview that does the inserts. If I test the run the form using default values as parameters the form wors fine. If I use a the hyperlinked field as below to go to the form the form does not work.It

I am fairly new to ASP.NET I have implemented a GridView table so each row is databound to an ObjectDataSource and is hyperlinked.
Ideally, the webpage is to be used on a touchscreen interface so I would like the entire row not just the text within the rows/columns to be a hyperlink. I have been told this is possible by using AJAX but have been unable to find a way of going about it.
How do you use the http POST method with a Grid View on another page. I am trying to use the POST method to send the ID from the selected row of a Grid View, I am using a link button set to fire the select command and it has the Post Back URL set, from one page and then retrieve the ID value on another page using an Object Data Source. Also, under the Defining Parameters, I am setting the ID parameter to Form Parameter Source and have entered the Grid Views name in the Form Field.
View 4 RepliesI am using a "Detail View" to edit the data in my "Customer" table. The fields are "CompanyName", "ContactPerson", "StreetAddress", and "City". If I type data into the first field ("CompanyName") and then press the "tab" key, control moves to the second field "ContactPerson". However, if I type data into the first field ("CompanyName") and then press the "Enter" key, instead of control moving to the second field ("ContactPerson") the program closes the form.
Is there someway that I can control the action of the "Enter" key so that this will not happen?
Also, is there any way that I can have control move from the first field ("CompanyName") to a field other than the seconc field ("ContactPerson") if the content of the "CompanyName" field contains the value "Internal"?
I'm having trouble generating onchange event code for a simple order form housed in a datagrid.This takes product items from sql database,whereas user can enter quantity (originally set to 25) of cards they want to order (the textbox id is txtQty). if they order 50 (so if they order 25 to 49,the price would stay the same for the lot),the subtotal for that given product will change another 15 dollars greater.,so the formula for the price wouldnt be product * price, but "if qty = qty + 25 then subtotal = price + 15".Then the button click event would add the subtotals to a grand total.
I cannot coordinate teh adequate javascript that would fit with this type of scenario,given that this is all predicated on each product coming from the database; i'm wondering if there is another good source i can be directed to that would show helper functions in the code behind or header subs to calculate the onchange (or textOnchange) event of the textbox.

And what i want to do is to show those profiles in form of hyperlink field in gridview..
I have defined a field validator that works fine on normal behavior on a page:

Now if I dont insert any text in the TextBoxHouseNumber field, and push submit, the FieldValidator fires as it should. But if I now click a button that automatically fills the TextBoxHouseNumber with text from a Jquery/Ajax function, the field validator still shows. It´s like "Hey, the user hasnt made any changes to the textbox, so I wont bother check it".
This is probably a simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer. One of my web pages has an ASP.NET FormView and two SqlDataSource controls. I need to show data from both datasource controls in the FormView. Most of the data will come from datasource1, with 2 or 3 items coming from datasource 2. The way I am trying to do this is by adding a label to the formview, then use custom data binding to get the data from datasource2. However, I can't seem to figure out the syntax for the bind statement

I have a DetailsView on the page and I have made one of the fields a TemplateField. In the EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I have a DropdownList that is databound to a table in my Sql Server database. I wanted to add an initial value to the DropdownList
namely "- select -" .
I set the AppendDataBoundItems property to true and added the initial value as a ListItem.Markup of the DropdownList

This works fine for new input. The problem is however that the database already has records that were entered through a Windows Application and many of these records has a null value in this field and exceptions are thrown when I tried to open these records
and the system tried to set the SelectedValue of the DropdownList.After some more searching I found this help

So I changed the ListItem in the DropDownList markup to the following:

This now solved the problem of opening a record where the value is null in the database, BUT now the RequiredFieldValidator is not validating anymore to make sure that a databound item is selected for this field and not the initial value "- select -". So basically now it is not checking anymore to see if valid input has been entered for the DropDownList and it accepts "- select -" thus it acts as if the field is not a required field anymore.
In short what is required is that I want to make sure that the user enters a valid selection in the DropDownList, but it must also cater for old records that do not have this field entered yet so that those old records can be opened in the DetailsView .Opening Old records (with null in that field):When these old records are opened in the DetailsView the DropDownlist should show "- select -" when the value in the database is null.
Saving records (old or new records):When saving the record in Insert mode or Update mode the RequiredFieldValidator should show that a valid input is not selected if the DropDownList is still on "- select -".
I'm trying to get an IDENTITY column to auto-increment with each new row inserted, so that the field (userid in this case) can be used as a unique identifier.

I don't understand - if I have to explicitly insert something into my auto-increment column, how do I know what to insert? Isn't the point of an auto-increment column that it's... auto?
I understand how to use a connection string object to read excel sheets. What I don't know is how to follow a hyperlink inside excel, grab matching data from the linked page and return it to my database. Essentially, the spreadsheet has two columns:
Title | Class#
Class# has the hyperlink which links to an internal web site. The connected page has a course description and any pre-required classes that must be taken before you can take this class. This is where I'm rather stumped as I've not had to do this type of thing before.

In RECIPE table I have a field named Status_Id which contains the name of the Status which is fetch from the RECIPE_STATUS table based on this ID.

From an ASP.net page I would like that my user is capable of changing the RECIPE_STATUS from a given recipe. For that I have a DataGrid which is bind to the RECIPE table.
But then what I would like is that the STATUS shown to my user to be the name Locked,Running or free depedning on the Id
How can I bound in my Datagrid the Recipe.Status to be bind to RECIPE_STATUS.Id ?
IN addition to that, If my user change the status for a given recipe, it should be properly save.
