Forms Data Controls :: Compare Sortedlist Object Property Changes And Update Value?
Oct 30, 2010
i have a sortedlist who values contain a Product objects. i wish to set the Quantity property of a selected Product object ( from gridview) when the Quantity field changes?
how do i compare whether the product row Quantity field in the gridview is the same as the Product Quantity property in the sortedlist and update accordingly?
note. i have converted to a list(of product) to bind to gridview. then update the sortedlist values

Traditionally with an Object Data Source, the wired up class will have its public properties available for binding (i.e. Gridview columns, etc.) which works well. But what if one of my wired up business objects has a property that is an object itself; can I drill down to a property on that object property and still use it?
So in additiona to the traditional:MyBusniessObject.OrderID...I want to use:MyBusniessObject.Customer.NameID
Your 1st response might be to just wire up the 'Customer' class, but I need properties both on 'MyBusinessObject'and 'Customer'. I do not think this can be done, as the ODS will not display properties on an object instance property. I have tried manually typing in the drilled down value as well, but that wasn't a success either.

I'm new to Asp.net, and I looked at an example of using a listbox's selected index to delete from a sortedlist. I'd like to write somethingthat would get the selected index from a different control, like a listview, and then delete from the sortedlist. I've read up on a few examples on how to bind data from a sortedlist to a listview, but I've not seen an example of how to get the index once the data is displayed! Can this be done?

I'm new to ASP so this may seem so simple but I cannot work it out.
I am trying to create a script that changes its output based on a range of values. Here is what I mean:
I have a MSSQL database with an ASP scripted website that reads it and displays the data in a table. One of the columns in the database is a percentage and I want that column in the web page to have a background colour based on the figure outputted.
So each cell may be a different colour. If the number is between 0 and 30 then red background, 31 to 70 orange etc.
At the moment I have the database output script looking like this:
[Code]....
How can I implement what I have outlined above?

I have a gridview with a date field. I don't want the user to be able to type in their own date and mess up the format so I made the property readonly. That date is then set by a point and click interface. This is all working fine but when the user clicks update this field doesn't update because it's readonly. If i turn readonly off it works so is there a way to turn off the readonly property right before submit?

I'm trying to understand when to use the type property and when to use the dbtype property. I looked online but couldn't find a good article that said when and why.

I'm using a DetailsView object to present a record from a database in table format. I'm actually using and ObjectSource object as the data source for the details view. In the object I am using as the source for the ObjectSource, I have paired properties that hold decimals. This is, I have a property called Year1 and another property called Year1Change. This for years 1 to six. The values from the Year1 properties are in a cell, whereas the change values are bound to texboxes. The code for the frontend is the following:
[Code]....
Now, as you can see in the tbYr2RtCh textbox, I have an OnTextChanged property to call an event handler. This is because I want to do two things when the text changes. The first one is to make the font in the textbox bold if the value it holds is different from the Year2 property. The second one is to change the text on tbYr2RevCh to adjust the revenue for the percentage increase in the rate. The problem I have is that I cannot access the object that is the source for the data and make those changes directly in the object, instead of having to update the database. I don't want to update the database until the client says so, but the changes should be calculated immediately. I thought about creating an method in the object that I could specify in the ObjectDataSource as the update method, but I'm still not sure how to go about it.

I'm having a gridview in my aspx page with checkbox, User can select one or more than one record(s) at a time and clicks on delete button, Then i'm constructing an object of my DTO and adding all the checked row's Primary Key (DataKeyNames - GUID's in my case) to a serializable class and generating an XML and sending it as parameter to the Stored Procedure.
My Doubt is, can i bulk delete all the rows from database table those are present in my XML document??
If it works, I can do bulk update with XML only, i already did bulk insertion by generating an XML..
My Another Question is, Will it affect the performance? Each time when i construct an DTO object and adding it to the Generic List?
Which one is better, I mean ObjectDataSource or SQLDataSource or my XML method?

I have a DetailsView (DV) control, an ObjectDataSource (ODS) control, and a button on a page. I have 2 classes in the App_Code directory (Customer and CustomerDAO). The DAO class provides static methods for the ODS control and simply hack values in (ie...no real database selects/updates). The Customer class has 2 properties (Id and Name) and a default constructor. The page takes an ID on the querystring and determines if the DV control is in insert or edit mode. If in edit mode, it sets the SelectParameter on the ODS (id field), calls ODS.Select(), and then calls DV.DataBind(). The existing (although fake) customer is loaded and display properly when this happens. I then change the name of the Customer in the DV and click the Button to save the new data.
Everything seems to be wired up correctly as the UpdateMethod that is specified in the ODS control is called and succeeds (even in my real example with my database). The problem is that the BoundFields in the DV control have not been updated with the new values and therefore the existing values are updated in the database and my changes are lost. I have handled the OnUpdating event of the ODS and the values are still the old values. I have also handled the OnItemUpdating event of the DV control and the NewValues IOrderedDictionary still has the old values in it also. In looking at the MSDN article for the UpdateMethod, it states the following:
Parameter Merging
Parameters are added to the UpdateParameters collection from three sources:
From the data-bound control, at run time.
From the UpdateParameters element, declaratively.
From the Updating event handler, programmatically.
I am using the BoundField classes in my DV control so I would have assumed that the first bullet above would have handled the updating of values, but it doesn't appear to work with the way I am doing it. If I set the values explicitly in the OnUpdating event that is fired by the ODS control (the 3rd bullet) the right values are updated (again...even in my real database situation). It seems like my only issue is that the automatic binding that I expect from the DV control isn't working as I would expect it to. Here is the code that I have in my fake example:
[Code]....

I have a gridview that takes in values from a sortedlist. I want to filter those values before putting them in the gridview without taking values out of the list.
Is there an easy way to do this? Or do I have to redirect the data through another list and point the gridview to it?

I am trying to get an asp:SessionParameter of a SelectParameters, to use a property of an object in session
instead of having a string in the session like Session["CustomerID"]
Something like Session["Customer"] where the property is ((Customer) Session["Customer"]).CustomerID)
My code:
<asp:sqldatasource id="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:DBConnectionString %>" xmlns:asp="#unknown"> SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM getStoreCustomers (@customerID,@week,@day)"
ProviderName="System.Data.SqlClient">
<selectparameters>
<asp:sessionparameter name="customerID" sessionfield="Customer" /> ?????? (what is the syntax to pass the property here?)
<asp:controlparameter controlid="ddWeek" defaultvalue="-1" name="week" propertyname="SelectedValue" /> <asp:controlparameter controlid="ddDay" defaultvalue="-1" name="day" propertyname="SelectedValue" /> </selectparameters>
The class I use is like any other class (but serializable)
[Serializable]
public class Customer
{
public int CustomerID
{
get;
set;

When attempting to place controls in different content areas using Masterpages and trying to use a compare validator, I get the error: Unable to find control id 'txtStartDate' referenced by the 'ControlToCompare' property of 'cvlDate'. I have also attempted to set it within the c# code behind in page load: cvlDate.ControlToCompare = txtStartDate.ID and by using findControl there must be an easy way to achieve this?
<asp:Content ID="Content4" ContentPlaceHolderID="leftForm" Runat="Server">
<asp:Label ID="lblStartTimeEnter" runat="server" Text="Start Time:" Width="100px"/>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtStartTime"runat="server" MaxLength="50" Width="250"/>
</asp:content>
<asp:Content ID="Content4" ContentPlaceHolderID="rightForm" Runat="Server">
<asp:label ID="lblEndDateEnter" CssClass="formMargin labelInput" runat="server" Text="End Date:" Width="100px"/>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtEndDate" CssClass="formMargin" runat="server" MaxLength="20" Width="250" ClientIDMode="Static"/>
<asp:CompareValidator ID="cvlDate" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtEndDate" ControlToCompare="txtStartDate" Operator="GreaterThan" Type="Date" ErrorMessage="Start Date must be before End Date" > *</asp:CompareValidator>

i want to compare my database value with my new updated value. what should i do ? e.g : on page load i am excuting one procedure which bring 10 columns and fill it against the 10 fields using for loop on the page. then i am changing value of two columns. ok. when i press update button then there is one more procedure which updates all the new and old columns into database. Its working fine. just i want to know that, should i update only two columns(which are modified) insted of updating all 10 columns ? Is there any csharp code that brings my page load columns into array and then compare it with new ones and updates only those columns which are mismatch with array. i am not sure but there is some way to do this.

I have created an ASP page to display records for auditor review and response. The page consists of two repeaters that display 5 rows from a database at a time. for each row displayed, a RadioButtonList, containing two buttons is attached. If the second button is selected, an input text box is displayed to allow auditor comments.
My situation is that I cannot find a way to identify which row is being selected? When I select the Button that should enable the text box, I'm receiving the following error:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
I'm just starting out in ASP coding and would like to know what I'm not doing right?

I am working on Vs2005 and asp.net 2.0. I have a solution with 4 projects (business object, components, data access, webclient)When I change any existing method or property in Business object or data access, it is not reflecting in the application. I have deleted the existing references to the project and added them after the new build. I always get errors like "method not found or No overload method "It seems like old verion of dll is still there in the reference.
