Forms Data Controls :: Gridview And Firmview Master/details Paging - How To Avoid It

I am having a problem with the gridview and formview. I have a gridview setup to show products and have a select button to clock on to give you the details of the product in a formview. I have the gridview setup for paging at 5 rows. In the page.aspx.vb I have on the SelectedIndexChanged event
FormView1.PageIndex = GridViewMain.SelectedIndex
This all works great until I go to the next page in the gridview and try to select a product on that page and the form view does not sync up. I really need a soultion for this. I could use the 2 page soultion for the master/details view however I would like to avoid it if possible...

I'm trying to get a record to show up in a details view as part of a Master Details. I was able to get this to work by setting the visibility to true for the Details View in the Page Load event. I now want the details view to show up when the Select button is clicked in the GridView's template field using the onClick event for the button. I don't seem to be assigning the correct properties to get this to work though. what property I should use with this? I know I have to get it from the GridView and assign it to the details but haven't gotten it to work. this is the GridView:

I have on a page a gridview that can be filtered with one text box. I set up the gridview to show select and wanted to then connect a details view so that when you selected a row the entire details would show up. When I run it I get this error. Data keys must be specified on GridView 'GridView1' before the selected data keys can be retrieved. Use the DataKeyNames property to specify data keys.

I have a Drop Down List, a GridView and a DetailsView. The Gridview is the master, the details is the records detail view. When we edit a record and click the update button, I want the page to refresh the gridview and detailsview. Right now after clicking the update, nothing happens, it just updates the current details record.

I'm trying to setup is a News module with article listing paging and article detail paging. I have a GridView with paging that lists my articles just fine. In that list, some article titles have links that direct to an article detail page by passing in the articleID to the details page. I was able to setup my details page, which uses a DetailsView control, to use paging by using an ObjectDataSource with pageIndex and pageSize parameters from the querystring. Once on my detail page, I can use my navigation arrows to move through Next and Previous articles just fine.
No matter which article I click in my article list, my detail page always starts with pageIndex 0 and thus not the article I clicked on. I understand why that is because it's going by pageIndex value instead of articleID. What I need it to do is, set the detail to whatever articleID i pass in, then allow me to navigate Next and Previous to THAT particular article instead of starting me off from pageIndex 0.

I am using linkbutton in my gridview to avoid the use of querystrings. The gridview is filled from a dataset.
I almost have it working but the text the linkbutton is displaying does not vary as a function of what row it is in. I need a way to associate the text of the linkbutton with the row it is in.

I have a parent gridview5 with child gridview 6, today i deployed it to our dev server and on that server we have alot more records, so for the nested gridviews i need to enable paging on the parent gridview5. Doing so works fine, until i make a selection within the child gridview6, once any selection is made, and i try to page the page throws an error, i have the following bound to the parent gridview5.

I'm trying to extend the GridView control to enable sorting and paging for any situation.
When using my control I am fetching data from a database and filling a DataSet with it, then binding the GridView upon every page load. My first question would be, is this the correct approach?
To sort the GridView I am overriding the OnSorting method which stores the sort expression and direction in the ViewState, then creates a DataView and utalises the Sort method to sort the underlying data. It then sets the Data Source to this DataView and rebinds the GridView.
Paging is handled by OnPageIndexChanging which simply sets the PageIndex property and again rebinds the GridView.
My problem is; when any control causes a postback my GridView is no longer sorted, presumably because it is persistently rebound. If I don't rebind it then the GridView is empty on postback since the data isn't automatically stored in the ViewState. I have considered saving the data source in the ViewState but I would assume that this is bad practice for large amounts of data? - also DataViews are not seralisable.
The only solution I can think of currently is to override OnDataBound and sort the data every time. This results in a double sort when paging triggers a postback which seems inefficient. Code illustration of this below,

I have a GridView with a select button. It get the data from a SQL database and everything is working fine. I'm new with ASP. I'm using a Data Set for the project. When the users select a row I need to show details of each row in a hidden panel with a table and labels to each field of the rows. The data of the details to show are in different tables. I already made the QUERIES with the JOIN to the different tables.
I was trying to fill the grid view with the specific query and fill the hidden panel at the same time so when the user click select the hidden panel appear with the data of the selected row. I put the hidden panel inside the grid view with a TemplateField and a ItemTemplate, but it doesn't work.

I am using gridview to display authors and it's books from a database. My problem is that i want to display details about author when someone selects an author from the same web form. should i create another web form containing the details and somehow try to redirect the user to that page. or the selectedIndex event should be used instead but how?

I have a gridview that displays the data of my database. What i want is a detailsview that gives me the details of the record i select in the gridview. Both the gridview and the detailsview are on one page. I use objectdatasources to get the data from the database. In the ObjectDataSource i select the gridview-control to get the selected value. But i get the following error: An object of type System.String can not be converted to DataTable. I also tried the following:

I had problems with using the gridview. For example I can bind or a a row of data to the gidview but the column data in the details section does not line up appropriately as far as justification with the grid view headers. I have tried different alignment combinations but that does not work.
