I have a page with a FormView on it. The page is strictly for adding records to a Table. I have the FormView bound to an EntityDataSource and everything works greate except for one thing.
I want to initialize a date field in the FormView to today's date. So, in my page_load event I have:
if (!Page.IsPostBack) { //Initialize SetupDate to today. TextBox setupdate = (TextBox)fvJob.FindControl("txtSetupDate"); setupdate.Text = DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString(); }
The first time this page loads, the txtSetupDate field is initialized.
Although, and subsequent loads of the page doesn't initialize the Text Box. I step through the code in the debugger and I can see that the code is executig, but something (the FormView bind?) is "clearing" the Text Box.
I have a formview and I want to fill it at page_load. The formview must show the data of the person that has logged in.So the question is how can I fill the formview so that is shows the data of the right person (UserId = @Param2) so that the formview is in editmode?
I have a formview that use the formview iteminserted event. The information inserts into the formview fine, but all cells blank out after the insert. How can I make it so I can show all the values I have inserted show up in the formview after the inteminserted event?
I have a FormView with a byte field. The field is not required and if I don't enter a value, I get an error that the value is not acceptable in a byte field. I can replace the null value with 0 but I would prefer not to.
What is the best way to handle this so that if I do not enter a value in a byte (or int16) field to insert a null value (or whatever they do in the ASP.net).
I'm not sure if I can explain this properly, I just need some advise. I'm working with a formview and datasets to populate the information. However I have a table specifiying which fields to display. In my table If cell, work and home fields are selected then those fields must be populated in the formview if they not selected then it shouldn't be shown. These are 2 different datasets being pulled into the formview.
Right now I have a datasource populating the formview via the wizard, not sure what to do next.
The above code works if there are controls directly inside a update panel. But what if I want to disable a button or a tex box that is inside an Edit template of a formview.. that is in a panel.
I have a Formview control that has several lookup fields. The value is an int ID but the textfield is the name, e.g. value = StateID, displayed text = StateCode)
If the user leaves that field blank, I get a Server Error when attempting to Update: Failed to set one or more properties on type orgOrganization. is not a valid value for Int32.
In the table for the LinqDataSource which provides the data for the Formview, all fields except the text field OrganizationName allow Nulls.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I tried a test which just has the numbers, no lookups, and get the same result.
I have a combobox that is used as a control for Formview, so when the user selects a name from the combobox the data in formview displays in edit mode. However, some if the data that is displayed in formview needs to be empty. For example if the Date is being pulled in, it needs to be empty or null in edit mode.
I'm exploring ASP.net. I have created a FormView based on Linq Data Sources. There are several fields in my datasource that are either future or archaic.
1) Do all fields in the DataSource need to have a control in the FormView? 2) Does ASP.net need to insert/update all fields in the DataSource?
I am inserting 4 fields into a table trought an SqlDataSource and a FormView element. These fields are ID (autopopulated), date(selected from calendar and/or todays date as default), Company name(user input), and UserID (taken from LoginName?).
I am able to inser the data in to the table when typing it, but I would like to have the UserID fiel auto completed and the date as well, or filled with the selected calendar date.
This is my part of my code.-------------------------------------------
I have discovered something strange when using a ListView. I have a listview contained inside an uodate panel and everything works OK until I edit the editItemTemplate to use a LinkButton instead of a Button. When i use a LinkButton then the Page_Load event is fired.
I have a textbox in a formview as well as a dropdown. When I select a value in the dropdown, the textbox should be made visible or invisible based on the value I select.
I would like to hide several checkboxes if the FormView EmptyData Template is visible. How would I do that? My EmptyData Template has a message to the visitor that states "Sorry no records found", so when it is displayed I would like for my CheckBoxes to be hidden. Here is the code behind that I've started with and of course it doesn't work.
If FormView2.EmptyDataTemplate IsNot Nothing Then CheckBox1.Visible = False CheckBox2.Visible = False CheckBox3.Visible = False CheckBox4.Visible = False CheckBox5.Visible = False End If
At first, I had my datalist being populated by my class 'PM' - I did it all inside the Page_Load event. Since there was a dataset being returned, I could assign different variables to fields in the Datatable, like:
[Code]....
Now, for reasons I won't go into here, I'm changing to an ObjectDataSource, using the same method to do the 'Select' of data... How can I do the same variable assigning, with the ObjectDataSource?
This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.
Public Shared Function MakeDateField(ByVal pasDate As String) As Nullable(Of DateTime)
If IsDate(pasDate) Then Try If pasDate <= System.DateTime.MinValue Then Return Nothing Else Return CType(pasDate, DateTime) End If Catch ex As NullReferenceException Return Nothing End Try Else Return Nothing End If End Function
So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.
I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.
I have a Formview that is only showing a question, and two checkboxes (True / False). It's cumbersome for the client to have to click "Update" every time they click a checkbox.
Is there a way to have Formview update the data when the page is changed, or form is closed? (I see those events, but know how to force data to update from in them). The application is testing individuals, so 95% of the time the person navigating through the forms will be updating data.
I've got a FormView control on a page. Its default mode is insert, since the intent is to have the user enter a record, save it, and then do something else. I've written a stored procedure to insert all of the data into 5 tables. 1 of the columns inserted is default, in SQL Server 2005, as an INT column, which is an IDENTITY column. After it inserts the record into the primary table, using a secondary stored procedure, it retrieves the newly created INT value, and then the primary stored procedure inserts records, using the new INT, into the other 4 tables. This is working fine. The primary stored procedure, which is called by the SqlDataSource on my .aspx page, defines this parameter as an output parameter:
[Code]....
In the FormView's ItemInserted event I'm trying to get the value from the FormViewInsertedEventArgs e parameter like this: [Code]....
However, the result returned is 0. Huh? That cannot be, because the new INT value created is something like 145000. Why am I then seeing a value of 0?
I have a user control that displays a list of records. Users have the ability to open an embedded user control with a FormView to either add a new record or to edit an existing one. The UserControl with the FormView has a button that closes and hides the user control.
If the user control with the FormView is opened to edit a record, the code works fine. But if the UserControl is opened directly into Insert mode, the code craps out
I have a formview which in insertmode is required to assign a value to a textbox from another on textchange event. I can't get it working. here's formview code (in bold: event call:
