Forms Data Controls :: How To Manage The Local Database
Aug 16, 2010
On my web page I'm trying to manage a tabular control of some kind that supports inserting. The data will be inserted locally on the page, with no connection to any kind of DB. The inserted data will exist only on this page and will be lost after navigatingto another page.A table that shows all the added rows and has an empty row for inserting is perfect.
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to transfer records from SQL central database (who has a public IP address) into SQL local database (who doesn't have a public IP)?
or if it's not possible can I use a centralized website instead to pass some data into the local website? (but i'm not sure if it will have some security concerns)..
I have a table in my database with three fields: COURSE_ID, PERC, DATE.I need to display sets of rows based on the date, the number of rows in every set will be known at run time, the same as the number of sets, so I was thinking about adding two buttons (one to add a set and another to add rows in that set)
I know that working with GridViews will do, but do not know how exactly, maybe one gridview for the sets and a second gridview (inside the first one) for the rows inside the sets.
I have a date base with a table named 'movies'. I want to take information on my database. I use a SQLDataSource. For my presentation, I use a repeater. Here is my code :
[Code]....
But if for exemple, 'champ1' is empty in my database, i don't want to print it in the result of my query ! But i can't arrive ...
I have to create the custom pages/ templates. User has to specify the fields and controls from UI and then we have to display the specified controls on an aspx page. We have mutiple users that are adding their custom fields and controls. How we can manage this data in database? Do we have to create different database for each user or we have to create different tables for each user in a single database? Also, I can go with any other option (XML, Sharepoint etc) so that all the data will be managed in a simpler form.
i have problem with manging format of string at run time
actually i have infomation in tabular form , a i am accessing that in coding in string fromat and send it by mail but when i send it shows html coding and not view in tabular .
I am trying to workaround a case where I have to design my page similar like msdn library page whew left nevigation is collepseble as well as dumemic extemded as per tje wodtj of tree item in tree .
I am wriyng an ASP website for my use on my local PC.
I have setup IIS and eveything works OK apart from accessing my SQL database. As I'm new to this I did not realise that you need to change the connnection string to reflect the place where the DB will be.
Having tried various options like http://localhost/ & db name, without succes I'm looking for some help.
I had a database on a development server of which I am not the owner. The connection string was:
Dim MM_cnnTraining_STRING MM_cnnTraining_STRING = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=xxx;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Initial Catalog=Training;Data Source=xxx"
I copied this database to my local machine, In services MSSQL is set to logon with my computer username and password, I have no idea if this affects anything. Also the local database which I can view in MSSQL Server Management Studio, I can connect by Windows Authentication only. The database copied there seems to have maintained the same permissions.Im completely confused. I finally was able to copy to my local machine but now can not connect. I am using dreamweaver, but using the connection string above.
My hosting company provider MS SQL Express as part of my hosting package, they have provided me with both the name and IP address of the server running MS SQL Express.
I have created a database on this server via management studio and when I create a connection string like this (connectionString="Data Source=ServerName/IP;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Password=xxx") my application works fine.
But if I create a local database file and try to attach this with a connection string like this (connectionString="Data SourceServerName/IP; AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance = True ; Trusted_Connection=Yes) my application doesn't work.
Therefore my questions are:-
Is there something wrong with my connection string? Can you use a local database file within a production environment?
I created web form which gets data from local database (SQLEXPRESS). It gives me an error when I publish the website. I can upload regular aspx page into my site. It works fine. How can I publish data-driven web form into my website?
If i want to make any changes in db structure or need to modify any data values, i have to login remotely to my server and has to open sql server management studio do db change or value editing stuffs. Its really getting iritating when the remote machine looks slow.
I just want to know how to configure the db hostname like dbname.domainname.com or mssql.domainname.com in server, so that we can open the server db in local using sql server management studio.
The application installed in windows server 2008 and using IIS 7.0 & SQL Server 2008
i have a datareader who read from data field from sql server, this field is datetime format now, when this field is null it returns 01/01/1900!! how can i manage it without if or some check, is there a property in datareader or sqlserver properties who i can return null value from datetime field?
i am a new user of asp.net and i am a learner so i just want to connect two dropdownlist to data souce and i want that the list item of second dropdown is changed according to change of selected item of first dropdown.
i have connect it to data source successfully it getting chaged items but it happance only when its load then if i select the next item of first one it would not work properly.
I'm looking for a steer on how to go about running stored procs efficiently.
I have a current requirement to populate a control, so I have all the specific data i.e the parameter value I need to pass and the control I want to populate, plus generic data such as SqlConnection etc.
I'd like to be able to call, say, "MyStoredProc". MyStoredProc would contain all the necessary information to run the proc, but then pass onto a method, say, GetSpData, which contained all the generic stuff about running stored procs.
Then when setting up MyStoredProc2 I could do without repeating a lot of the original function
Im I barking up the wrong tree or is there an efficient way of managing this kind of situation.
I have production server on our intranet and we have website on remote server with its own database. Now we want to sync some tables from our local database to remote database at some interval of time. I have own idea that if data sync is fail than we should get email about that from remote database.
For above scenario I was looking some ideas from you guys and different method to do it. I know about replication of database how to do that. Can we do it by asp.net, SSIS package which will be easy.
I have a gridview populated by a SQLDataSource that is fairly complicated on a dataset changing constantly. It takes a second or so to fetch the data.
I want to have external dropdownlists for filtering the data that appears in the gridview, either with a FilterExpression or with parameters.
The problem is that querying the database to populate the dropdownlists takes a long time, because of the complexity of the query. The values in the dropdowns can vary based on other filters.
Is there some simple way of querying the database only once, for the main gridview, and then somehow querying the local (to ASP.NET) copy of the data to extract distinct values for populating the filtering dropdowns? I am thinking this might speed things up a bit.
I've been asked to a useful documents page on my company's intranet. The idea is that users have a list of docs click on a link and the doc opens. Everything was going find and dandy until the actual link. I need the link to be a file path on my network (everything is internal). The problem I have is if I use and asp:hyperlink I get \MysiteThe bit it need. I've been banging my head against the wall for a few hours now with various different methods but so far that's the closet I've been.
how to download a file , from sql server 2005 to local disk.
using asp.net and c# as my code behind, when i click on gridview column, a pop up windows should appear asking fr the path to save in local disk, when name is entered and save button is clicked, that particular file should get saved in disk.
I recently started NOT putting code in separate file. I am using vb. I am having a problem with my database connection. The live code is working just fine....but when I try to debug locally. i get this error. connection to the database from my local visual studio is not working. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I want to copy a database on a development server to my local server. I am not the server administrator but I have rights to the database. Soon after the wizard Executes the SQL Server Agent Job it fails and the error message says:
The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details.
Where do I find this log? Also what could be the problem?
I have Web Application which uses the Logged In User (Authenticated User) to query his Profile Data from Adabas/Unix using OLEDB. The application provides the user with about 21 different pages (Basic Info, Employment Info, Education, Dependants, Financial Info ...).
The web application has a master page, and each profile data page is based on a User Control loaded in the Child ASPX Page.
The Data Layer of this Web Application will have to undergo major modification, since we are migrating our legacy applications from Adabas/Unix to SAP, the development Team has prepared web services to query for the same Profile Data from SAP using Web Services. Now, we have to modify the web application to consume the web services instead of using OLEDB to query Adabas.
Since we are in the testing phase, and we have only very limited data in SAP, I have to provide temporary control to allow test query the Staff Profile for a Specified User (instead of the Authenticated User) and to select the Source:
1. SAP, or
2. Adabas.
So I am thinking to add the following "Control Section" in the Master Page:
[Code]....
See image below to clarify:
[URL]
Becuase the users defined in SAP are based on Dummy Data, so we want to allow the user to Enter the required SAP User, and he will select "SAP" from the Drop-Down-List. In this case, the program will query for Staff Profile Data from SAP for the specified "Staff ID" (txtSAPStaffID) instead of the Authenticated User. But, if "Adabas" is selected for the "ddlDataSource" then, it will default to the Authenticated User.
I noticed that when I am following the above technique, if I press "Go", the Staff Profile Data Page is disappeared, and when I navigate from page to another, the selection on the values entered in the "Control Section" in the master page are reset to default value, ie, the last values are not maintained.
Questions:
1. What is your feedback on the method I followed above ? Any other recommendations? I need very simple method.
2. Why the data page (the child page of the master page) is cleared (disappears) when I press the Go button ?
3. How to maintain the values selected when I navigate from one page to another ?
