Now this AddGridAddBTN Temporarily adds a data row to a grid but won't submit that data to database, however AddGridSubmitBTN Submits the data to DB through foreach loop .
Now my query is i want to provide user a functionality that when he gets focus on Abbreviation Text Box OR Description Box and he after typing some data Press ENTER KEY , This ENTER KEY would provide funcionality as a AddGridAddBTN Button , and when he presses SHIFT + ENTER , It works like AddGridSubmitBTN Button , also i want to make Abbreviation and Description Field to be filled must !
Moral is that :
ENTER KEY WOULD DO : Generate a temporary row with holding previous values as it is actually doing on AddGridAddBTN Button.
SHIFT + ENTER WOULD DO : Enter the whole grid data thorugh foreach loop as it is actually doing on AddGridSubmitBTN Button.
I don't want to refresh my page on enter or shift enter pressing . This grid is binded through SQL DATA SOURCE ...
I use GridView & FormView to update a record. but when I click the "save" button, throw an except : FormView must be in the insert mode to insert a record. The record has been updated success, and I didn't change the mode of the FormView, how this error comes?

To be redundant -- If I send "body" by itself the system works, it falls apart when I try to add Name.Text where Name is the ID of my textbox in the form.
Is it possible to code DetailsView to go to the new record I've just insertted? Currently it appears to default to the first record, utlimatly I'd like it sorted Last name, first name and upon an Insert it should go to that new record on pageload.
View 3 RepliesScenario : I have two database tables with one to many relationship. eg:- City and Related news. So I have a gridview(Gridview1) which lists out all the cities and allows edit, delete of the gridview rows. Now since i wanted to display all news for the city, i have a nested gridview as a column in this Gridview1. This nested gridview displays all the news for the cities. And I have edit, delete buttons for this gridview too - So far, good - works fine.
Now what I would like to do is - To insert a new news item for a city. For this, I attached a detailsview to my nested grid(gridview2), and tried to insert. I need the primary key id of city table from the first grid (gridview1) to insert the news into the second database table and I could not access this value from the parent gridview. My gridview1 does not have datakeyname, it is programatically bound.
Also, When the gridview/detailsview is nested, it does not get listed in the event-handler list. So I cannot use say, detailsview1_iteminserting. I do not how to add this event handler
Has anybody done anything similar? When I started, it looked like a pretty straightforward thing - There must be some way to do this. But I just can't get it to work. How do you usually insert into the child table in a one-to-many relationship? Should i just be using two separate gridviews?

This works great. However, I have now been asked to have the form insert x number of records at one time.
They want to be able to fill out the following fields:
PONum
Location
Address
Description
and then have texbox where they can add a number and have that number of the same record inserted.

When I run this page, signup.aspx, provide required fields and click submit, the page simply reloads and the database table does not reflect the newly-inserted record. How do I catch the error messages that might be returned from the sproc? how to change signup.aspx so that the insert occurs.
I'm very new on VWD, but I got the hang of it for the past 2 weeks(thank you for all the videos posted here in ASP.NET),but I'm really weak on the coding part(vb & c#),except for all the sample shown on the tutorials. Anyways, I have a simple project that
does insert, update & delete to SQL express using the details view. But to complete my project, I need to add a button that will create an event to restore the very last record inserted in SQL and display it back into the details view for minor modification
and nserted again as the newest record with the mod. I'm doing this so user, doesn't need to re-key-in redundant information, like names, original date & time etc, and just make modification on the description of the last record.....
Conseptually what I'm doing is simple, and technically it may even be simple, but I'm still rusty. Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a webform that allows the user to enter a new record, and in there I have also included a couple FileUpload controls. Upon clicking the "Save" button, I'm saving the details entered into one table (ITEMS), and also inserting the FileUpload details (path, id, upload_user) into another table ATTACHMNTS). Because one ITEM can have many attachments, I needed to split the tables up. So on save, I need to save the ITEM, save the ATTACHMENT, and then also put the ITEM_ID in the ATTACHMENT table. I'm second guessing myself because I think all I'd have to do is after I do the ITEM insert, do a SELECT MAX on the ITEM table and hold the newest (MAX) id in a variable and then use it in the ATTACHMENTS update. I'm not 100% on this because there IS a chance that someone else could save a few milliseconds later and I'll link the wrong ITEM. See my delima?

3- I get the changed text (changed = textbox1.text )
but it get the old text not the changed one
