What I'd like to do on gvReport_DataBinding is change the field the Evals point to, so I end up with something like:

I have gotten this far:
TemplateField tf = ((TemplateField)gvReport.Columns[0]);
But I'm not sure what I should be doing with tf. tf.SomeProperty.Replace("answers", "answers_foo")?
Or am I barking up the wrong airplane on this one?

Forms Data Controls :: Setting Text Programmatically In ItemTemplate Of Gridview Does Not Show
Mar 7, 2010The problem is this: I am writing a system to show helptexts on certain labels. So in the PageLoad I recursively iterate all controls and save those with a certain tag. So far so good.
On the PreRenderComplete I iterate the controls and set their text property. The strange this is that the labels in ItemTemplate don't get the new text. The PreRenderComplete fires after the DataBound event of the gridview, the label gets found perfectly, in the end it has the new text, but in the page it's still the old text.
I hope I don't need the Row_Databinding event of the gridview, since I want to put all the functionality in an extender class with as little custom work as possible.

May 22, 2010I must create a few DataLists programmatically. All of them will share the same ItemTemplate. Is it possible to define this ItemTemplate in .aspx file, using wizard etc, and then create DataList programmatically and assign this template? There is information in the internet how to define both ItemTemplate and DataList programmatically, but I want to define the ItemTemplate statically and only DataList programmatically and then assign the template to it.
The problem that I encounter is that ItemTemplate tag only works inside some control tag. It looks like it is impossible to define an ItemTemplate (like e.g. resource in Silverlight) not associated with any DataList, using the wizard and design tools, and then reference this template in code during runtime.

Apr 14, 2010Very new to ASP.NET (using C# behind) and am having trouble figuring out the following scenario. I have a DataList that is populated (code below) and wanted each cell to be clickable. When the cell is clicked I wanted to know the unique ID for that cell. In my code behind, my OnClick method looks like this:

However I never get there. It seems as if the linkbutton always refers to some javascript callback function and just reloads my form. Am I using the wrong control for what I want to do? From this click I want to look up more information from the Key (will roll up the datalist or set visible to false, then supply the new data on the same page)DataList:

I need to be able to remove one column from the table and put it back again (including the tags in my table which pull the data from the datasource e.g. <%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"Forecast1") %>) I need to be able to do this because I have options to change the sqldatasource query, and I need to alter the table to keep it compatible with the query. What is the best way to do this?

Dec 5, 2010I have a website developed in C# with Visual Studio 2010. I am using datalist to list the documents for monthly meetings. Each monthly meeting has 6 datalists representing each section of the monthly meeting. I am using row filters to filter the data for the respective month and section. I am using the Membership Provider model and am displaying the documents for the respective user. When a user clicks on the document link the document is marked and displayed as "read". This is all working as it should in my existing code.
However, I would like to be able to display this data programmatically. My oldest data is December 2009. I would like to dipslay this data programmatically based on todays's date and then looping back until December 2009. Today, I update the web form and the code behind on a monthly basis and I know that there is probably a better way to do this. I think this can be done but I am not certain if it can be done with row filters, because amongst other things I do not know how I can dynamically generate the datalist ids so that I can then bind the row filtered data.

Feb 2, 2011I have a radiobuttonlist inside a datalist itemtemplate and i need to bind the radiobuttonlist dynamically from database I have tried to bind it inside itemdatabound event of datalist but it the result is always duplicated according to the fields in teh database.
for more information:
the database has two columns one for questions and the other is for choices , for the first question with id lets say 1 there are 4 choices, when the radiobutton is binded the result appears to be 4 times duplicated ?

Creating Dynamic DataList Controls With ID's Based On Bound Data - Finding Alternative
Jun 28, 2010As a workaround for the fact that asp:Checkboxes don't have values, I am attempting to dynamically create the ID's of checkboxes in a DataList so that it inserts the primary keys into the control ID. This is surprisingly difficult.
I have placed a PlaceHolder in my DataList ItemTemplate, then in the ItemCreated I create the checkboxes using string.Format("Checkbox{0}", DataBinder(e.Item.DataItem, "ID")). The problem is that this only works in a non-postback condition, as on postback the DataItem is null. And of course ItemDataBound isn't called on PostBack so that won't work either.
I can't seem to find a good way to handle this short of if (IsPostback) dataList.Bind(), which i don't think is a good way to do it.
Can anyone provide me with any alternatives here?
