Apr 3, 2010I want to add my own set of functions into my GridView. For example, I have a help desk management module that displays all the help desk tickets in a GridView. When the tech is finished supporting the customer, I want him/her to click the "Close Ticket" link in the GridView to close the ticket.
I've never used the ButtonField feature field before so I thought this would be perfect but I'm a little confused about getting the TicketID in the GridViewCommandEventArgs method. I thought I could just put the TicketID in the CommandArgument and pull it from there but looks like I can't do that as ButtonField is not giving me the CommanArguement option.
I'm not displaying TicketID's in the GridView because they're "uniqueidentifier" datatype and look ugly. How do I pull the TicketID if I were to use a ButtonField? Or is there a better way to do this?
I already have a method in my DAL expecting the TicketID so all I'd have to do is get the TicketID and call this method.

Feb 11, 2010In the application I am working on there is a Gridview with a select and on clicking the select we get the value of the DataKeyNames.
Basically we have OnSelectedIndexChanged="GridIndexChanged" in the Gridview property.
Now the problem is that I want to add a ButtonField with a Commandname, so that I can call a different method. In the OnSelectedIndexChanged it's simple to get that value by doingGrivView1.SelectedDataKey.value, But how can I get the value of SelectedDataKey in the Button Click?

Feb 8, 2011I have a usercontrol that has a gridview. I have a few boundcolumns and then a buttonfield. The buttonfield needs to have a confirm message box and then proceed to the RowCommand event. In the RowCommand, I'm trapping for a CommandName called "DeleteFile".
The weird thing is everything works correctly with deleting a row if the onclick code is not registered. I'm using attributes.add for this.
I know there is another option for using a templatefield and then a button rather than a buttonfield. But, I've noticed that this approach causes a postback that effects another usercontrol on my page. It thinks I've submitted it which can either cause it to error out or potentially sumbit more information which I want to avoid.

Oct 26, 2010I know there are a number of posts along this topic, but everything I find seems to not have a final solution or else I'm just not getting what the solution is. I have a simple GridView with a ButtonField and a BoundField. I'm having the same problem most of the other posts seem to have; I can retrieve the BoundField value easy enough in the RowCommand subroutine, but I can't figure out how to get the value of the ButtonField. Here is the code I'm trying to use:

sAddr is being set to the correct address value, but sName is set to an empty string no matter what I try. The GridView HTML all works correctly, including showing the names from my bound data table on the button text. I can use to retrieve the ButtonField text value?

Aug 24, 2010I have a gridview that displays the current weeks scheduled games. Ideally I have added a column to the end of the gridview that I would like display 1 of 3 values. If the game has already been played I would like to display the score of the game; if the game has yet to be played I would like the column blank and if someone on either team has indicated that they can't make the game I would like to display a button that says "subs needed" and take you to another page to sign up to be a sub. Can this be done? I have been able to change the background color of the line based on the two boolean flags from the database using the RowDataBound event handler but I can't seem to find a way to set the value of a specific field in my row. (The background is set for the whole row.)

Jan 18, 2011I have a gridview with a ButtonField. When I leave the button type as the default LinkButton, clicking that button fires the RowCommand and everything works as expected. As soon as I change the button type to ImageButton and assign an ImageUrl, clicking that button does not fire the RowCommand.

Jul 1, 2010I have 2 gridviews in an aspx file. The First one is master grid, and the second one is detail grid. (such as Customer and it's Invoices) First, I load data into master grid. I use FireBug and notice that every row has it's row id, such as:

Feb 17, 2011I am new to asp.net and was trying to use datagridview in my webform. I was able to bind it to my database but I cannot make the datagridview's buttonfield respond. It seems the grid's SelectedIndexChanged event is not being fired or has issues with postback. Even a very simple statement is not being executed by the program e.g.

It seems the SelectedIndexChanged is not being fired. I have checked my IE and scripting is enabled.

Jul 17, 2010I have developed my application using Visual Web Developer 2008 express with Visual Basic code.
If I am working with 2 textboxs on a form, and I set the "Autopostback" to "true" for the first texbox then on the "changed" event, I can just add code to set the visibility to "true or "false" for the second textbox - it works fine. However, I do not seem to be able to figure out how to do the same thing when I am using a Dataview.
I have a table called "Customer" that contains 4 fields "CustomerName", "BasePrice", "LevelOfActivity", and "Discount".
My user enters information into this table using a Dataview form that displays the 4 fields.
When the user enters the value "L" in the field "LevelOfActivity", I would like to then set the visibility of the field "Discount" to "false" - (I want to hide the field as this customer should not get a discount). If the user enters the value "H" in the field "LevelOfActivity", I would like to then set the visibility of the field "Discount" to "true" - (I want to show the field so the user can enter the "Discount").

Sep 3, 2010I want to toggle a Textbox to be visible (true, false) contained within an InsertItemTemplate based on the data being Null/Empty.
It Works in the Item Template since it is calling the "select parameters", but once it is in the "insert parameters" on databinds, I am unable to get this to work.

Apr 17, 2010I have a formview that displays user info from a dropdownlist. One account may have many users, but one account Primary. I am trying to disable the Edit/Delete button in the formview if the selected ID is the account primary. The problem I get is this.
Step 1: page_load - the primary user is displayed by default, but the delete button is enabled - not right
Step 2: I use the dropdownlist to select another user (not the primary) - everything's fine
Step 3: I then select the Primary User, the Delete Button is disabled - perfect
Step 4: select another user, delete button still disabled - Not right.

1. As you can see my sqlSelect Parameters are bound to the DropDownList.SelectedValue, but is t seems like my if statement for comparing selecteduser to varAdminID doesn't work except once.
So to help debug, i added a label control that displays the selected userID, but on page load the label is blank. but it displays the first record on the list anyway. so if this is the reason for not disabling the delete button on page load then why later does it not reable the button when the user is not the primary, and the UserID is displayed on the label and it is not the primary userid?

Aug 26, 2010I am working with a formview edititemtemplate. Currently in my page load, i have some stuff that would show or hide certain panels based on dropdownlist values. These dropdown values get binded during page load. I need to be able to change the values/dropdowns, without rebinding the old data, and updating the visibility of the panels based on predefined rules.
I have experimented with putting my formview.databind() in page load if isnotpostback, in prerender, in prerender if isnotpostback. I have tried my rules (ex if ddlState.selectedvalue = "DE" then pnlDelaware.visible = "true") in the page load, and the page render. I'm just not sure how to get the stars aligned here. The closest i have come is having the databind in the pageload if notispostback, and the rules in the prerender. However I get an error "dropdownlist has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.

Oct 27, 2010i have a grid view with all columns as TemplateFields( No BoundField). Based on certain condition i have to set Visibility of few columns false. Suppose when there is no column 'CaseList2' in the DataTable, then the second column of the grid (whose column index is 1 )should be invisible. But when the Gridview binds it gives error DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'CaseList2'
i googled it and found that
GridView1.Columns[1].Visible = false;
should work. But its not working actualy.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Change The Visibility For Update And Edit Button With This Details View
Apr 4, 2010I have a details view with buttons in the footer. When the user clicks the edit button the calls the ChangeEditMode() method. I want to change the mode of the details view to edit mode which seems to work fine. It goes into edit mode with a text box. I also want it to set the visible property of the edit button to false and set the visible property of the update button to true. Then while still in edit mode the user can click the update button that will call the appropriate method to persist the changes.
I got the changemode() to change to edit but can't change the visible property of the buttons correctly. This is what I have so far. Can some one please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
