May 25, 2010I have a column, description, in a GridView which has the most text data. As that column is defined as varchar(256), it can allow a string with 256 characters in it. In displaying, I don't want that column to stretch all the way. I use ItemStyle-Width to contain it to be 40% width. I also use word-break and word-wrap as:
GridView1.Attributes.Add("style", "word-break:break-all;word-wrap:break-word");
I guess this attribute apply to the whole GridView1. I have a column called category with possible data as "LINKAGE", "CURTAIN", etc. Now "LINKAGE" is broken up into "LINKAG" and "E" with the "E" goes to next line. The word "CURTAIN" have the "IN" goes to the next line.
Now how can I apply the word-break and word-wrap to only the description column?

1) I've managed to display 3 columns in one column (see code above) but the data is separated by commas, how can I display each data item in separate rows.
2) How can I make the data unique, as I have added the distinct command which I configured in my SQL data source
3) I need the rows to not display nulls, but at the moment it isn't displaying the row if one of the columns is null?

Sep 20, 2010I created a gridview that is made up of 4 gridviews and using a stored procedure to populate it. I create columns at runtime because the number of columns changes all the time.To make the grids editable I am adding template fields at runtime as I create the columns, this is to ensure that a user is able to edit the cells and some foot values update. Reason why I have four grids is to freeze rows and columns like in excel using javascript. The problem is that performance is very bad especially in IE, the grids take a long time to load. I am not sure if this is caused by the data load or the creation of text boxes. see some of the code below for my _aspx page:

ID(PK), TeacherID, DayID, TimeslotID, ParentID, StudentID, Remarks & Editable(bit, Default value=1)
I am developing an application to allow parents to book appointments to meet the child's teachers.
It is compulsory for parents to meet child's mentors, hence Appointments to meet class mentors are already pre-booked in the Appointments table.
Parents could still book appointments to meet other subject teachers. I have a column in my gridview to show parents the list of booked appointments. Parents are allowed to change the Appointment timeslot for an appointment they booked and are not allowed to change appointment time for pre-booked appointments.
Under the Remarks colum, it is stated that the following appointment is pre-booked by class mentor.
How do I make only those pre-booked rows read only since all the appointments belonging to a parent is under one GridView.
I found an example, but this is to only make the 1st 3 rows read-only and I don't think this is in VB coding. I'm usingASP.NET VB coding.

Jan 5, 2010I have a gridview which is databound to a database. At runtime the gridview is populated with the information from the database. I also have a select hyperlinkfield column which basically has the select hyperlink in each row, when clicked it displays all the details of that entire row(this opens up on a different page).
What im looking for is when that select hyperlink is clicked a progress bar/progress gear with the word loading should appear for couple of seconds and then display all the details of that row selected which will appear on another page.

To do this, I bind a datasource to the Gridview and then add new cells and shift the other items into those cells. I seem to be having an error with the link buttons that I move around. All of the items get put in there correct location, but for some reason, when I click a link button that has been added to a new cell, the sender's text is the LinkButton in the original cell's text. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Is the gridview not meant to be manipulated after it has been data bound? This is the code that I use to update the gridview.
