View 8 RepliesI'm a bit new to this game. I'm trying to build a web page that simply scans a directory in the server and creates a web page with links to the files in that directory - sounds simple and should be easy to do !So I have a bit of code that reads the myDocuments folder in my web site and then populates a grid view hyperlink column with the filenames in the folder - wow it works !The only thing I am struggling with now is getting the hyperlink correct within the GridView so that the user goes to the actual document.So my code behind is;
[Code]....
which reads the file info in the directory myDocuments and binds the info to a datasource.So now I'm using that datasource to display the filenames in a gridview so that the user can click on a name and open the file.
[Code]....
But of course the Name field in the hyperlink column is only the name of the file - how do I append the relative link to the filename to make the full path to the file correct.I tried to make the Hyperlink column a template field and do something like EVAL("~/path/"&"Name") but that doesn't work :(
[Code]....
I would like column in a table to be a link(not using hyperlink field). What data type do I need to use to make this possible?

View 7 RepliesI have created a asp.net webpage for viewing daily downloaded newspaper, saved as a pdf file in a selected folder (~/NEWS/{0}) within the web root directory. Also i have a SQL datasource linked, where the news table has two columns viz: date and filename.
I want to create a tiled listview where the date text is visible on the hyperlink. on clicking the hyperlink, the file name is retreived for the corresponding date and the pdf file opens in a fresh page.
I have tried going to the item template in listview and replacing the label control with a hyperlink control, but then not able to successfully proceed ahead.
In a gridview row, I have a hyperlink that calls another page. I need to pass parameters in this hyperlink depending on the values in the gridview row. So, I need to modify the hyperlink in each gridview row.example:
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" NavigateUrl="~/LogConnect.aspx"
Target="_blank">HyperLink</asp:HyperLink>
---change to --

[Code]....
The output of it would be multiple hyperlink in a single row. But the hyperlink is too close to each other, how can I add spaces between the hyperlink? The example in this line did it, but the empty spaces become part of the hyperlink, which I dont want.

How to change a column from hyperlink field to button in Gridview?
My current code is as follows
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Click">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server"
NavigateUrl='<%# Eval("ID", "Detail.aspx?ID={0}") %>'
Target="_blank" Text="Detail"></asp:HyperLink>
</ItemTemplate>
<EditItemTemplate>
</EditItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
I have a repeater control that loads my data ok. I have a hyper link field in my repeater control. It looks like this:
[Code]....
I Want to be able to replace this bitfield:
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Banned" SortExpression="bitBanned">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label5" runat="server" Text='<%# ShortDisplay("bitBanned") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
with a link in my gridview that toggles the bit with a method from my dblayer
The ShortDisplay() method seen above looks like this:
protected string ShortDisplay(string strPerm)
{
string result = string.Empty;
if (Eval(strPerm) != null && (string.Compare(Eval(strPerm).ToString(), "True", 0) == 0))
result = "Yes";
else
result = "No";
return result;
}
As you can see it returns just a "yes" or "no", would like it to be a link when the bit is "Yes"

I am using this command to trim a cell value from a grid view.
row.Cells[i].Text.Trim().Length
The result return is always 6.
I have checked that the value of this is empty, when I display it on page using this code,
Response.Write(" '" + row.Cells[i].Text.Trim()+ "'<BR>");
I get ' ', it seems like there is a space in it.
I have a standard gridview, populated via a SQLDataSource, with columns converted to templates.
The edit templates have text boxes. When saving edited data via these text boxes, I need to trim the values to remove any spaces.
How do you recommend doing so? I've tried various methods but none seem to work.
Currently my update parameters are specified in the SQLDataSource.
I am using a gridview populated via a SQLDataSource. When editing or inserting data via the gridview, how do I trim the values before they are inserted to or updated in the database? I want to ensure that no spaces are accidentally added to the end of my text values.
View 4 RepliesI have a LinkButton that is databound to a description. Sometimes the descriptions are very long and unorganized so I would like it to show for example 75 characters and then append a '...' to the end of any description greater than 75 characters. I found this snippet which pretty much is exactly what I want to do :
from [URL]
[Code]....
I just cant figure out how to do this for the LinkButton in my ItemTemplate in the DataList.
I populated a DataList with a Title (<%# Eval("Title") %>) and Content (<%# Eval("Content" %>) and all is OK. My problem is to how to trim the "Content" so that it only shows part of the string, say only the first 5 sentences, and I would like to add a "more details" link afterwards.a url on the "Title", same url of the "more details" link.
