Forms Data Controls :: Update Field Based On Value In Another?
Apr 9, 2010
In GridView (using VB) , I have project information, with Status and %Complete that the user is supposed to update. Trouble is they may change %Complete to 100%, but not change the status from Active to Complete. So, we wind up with a long list of Active tasks that are 100% Complete. How can I force an update to the Status field ? something like... If "%Complete" = "100" Else Status = "Complete" Not sure if I need to do this in VBscript or code behind or SQL or.

I am trying to display a starting date from an access database based on the dateId field in a datalist.
On page 1 (using a master page) the customer selects a starting date from a dropdownlist. When the customer hits the submit button, they are transferred to page 2 where the selected starting date is displayed.
The database table is basically:
DateID Startingdate
1 1/1/2010
2 2/1/2010
3 3/1/2010
4 4/1/2010
5 5/1/2010
The dropdownlist from page 1 is:

My select command is:

I have a page with a Listbox and GridView.
The Listbox has a list of students. The Gridview has a list of classes offered during a period, such as:
Math Science English etc. When I click a student in the Listbox, I call a sproc via Linq, and get the ClassID and ClassTitle that student is registered for.
What I need to do is Highlight the record in the GridView that matches the ClassID or ClassTitle returned by the sproc.
Previously, I used a ListBox for the Class Offerings. This is easy with a Listbox using the FindByText method:

What is the right way to do this with a GridView?

I need to bind a List control based on the Gridview Row's datakeyName value while the Gridview control is being loaded into the page. I tried the following but it does not work.The BulletedList control is nested inside a Gridview Control and they both bound to an ObjectDataSource control. In my code, I passed teh UserID into the UserID parameter and call the Select() method but still does not work. Basically, I want to list of a user's hobbies, therefore the hobbies control are driven by the userID. tell me how can I get it to work?
protected void UserGridView_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

I have a web page that has a repeater bound to a data source. I beed to change a label inside the repeater based on the data that is in each repeater item. For instance, for the first item it might be one thing, and for the next item the label may be something else. I am currently doing some processing in the prerender event, but I don't know if I can or how to access the data source fields there. Where and how do I get access to the data in each item so I can change the label text?

I know that variations of this same question have been posed numerous times - but I can't quite seem to find the exact solution.
I would like any row in my gridview where the boolean field "Approved" is True to be shaded gray. Here is the code that I'm using, but every row ends up being gray, regardless of the value in that "Approved" field. My guess is that I'm not correctly evaluating the boolean value in this field (which is actually a yes/no field in MS Access), Not sure if I should be reading that value as "-1", "Yes" or "True" or "NotNull"? Anyway, here is the code:

I have a gridview where I am using the update. I have converted the label into a templatefield and added a dropdownlist which is getting polulated in the Rowdatabound event. When I test the update i get an error
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'StartTime', table 'HTC.dbo.EventDates'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails.The statement has been terminated. so I am ussuming its still trying to update from the label rather than using the dropdownlist. here is my code:

I have created a formview with 4 dynamic controls fields that LINQ to a database.
rentfoodutilitytotal
There's an event handle for each of the first three fields whenever a text change with following codes:
' extract textbox from both SubTotal and the modified field
tboxSubtotal = FormViewAssistance2.FindControl("totalTextBoxEdit")
tboxModifier = FormViewAssistance2.FindControl("foodTextBoxEdit")
'extract string from those textboxes
txtSubtotal = tboxSubtotal.Text
txtModifier = tboxModifier.Text
'convert text to double and add them together
Double.TryParse(txtModifier, dblModifier)
Double.TryParse(txtSubtotal, dblSubtotal)
dblSubtotal = dblSubtotal + dblModifier
'post the changes back to SubTotalTextBoxEdit
'totalTextBoxEdit
'EditorPart.ReferenceEquals("totalTextBoxEdit", dblSubtotal)
'PostBackTrigger.ReferenceEquals("SUBTOTRECTextBoxEdit", dblSubtotal)
'EditorZone.ReferenceEquals("SUBTOTRECTextBoxEdit", dblSubtotal)
I'm stuck on how to post/update totalTextBoxEdit to reflex changes in first three fields without having user clicking Update button to save the information into database. I've tried above 3 statements but none of them is working.

Ive got a list of records in a gridview (from an SQLDataSource) where a field value is set to True. I've also added a "reset" button in a template field at the start of the row in the Gridview.
What I would like to do is allow the user to click the reset button on a particular row and 'reset' the true value to 'false' (updating the source data).

I have a page setup that displays a datagrid connected to a access database file. I setup a timer to compare the last write time of the access db file and current time (with in 4 seconds). Once the times are with in 4 seconds of each other it requests a refresh of the data. The webpage is displayed on 4 thin client PC's with 0 user involvement so the WebPages need to update themselves. Due to the fact I'm limited to Access I'm trying to limit the # of times a day they are accessed by the auto-update.
The problem I'm having is when the timer ticks it POSTs to the web server. I have 3 WebPages setup watching 3 DB's for different location where I work but they all run of an IIS server in my office. So this creates a lot of unneeded traffic and log files. (Currently 5-6megs per day)
I was wondering there is a better way to compare the files on the clients machine and only post back for an update when they are with in 4 seconds of each other.
The site is built with MS visual web dev 2010 express written in Aspx and code lang is VB. I'm using system.io.file.getlastwritetime to get the file information for comparing.

This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.
Public Shared Function MakeDateField(ByVal pasDate As String) As Nullable(Of DateTime)
If IsDate(pasDate) Then
Try
If pasDate <= System.DateTime.MinValue Then
Return Nothing
Else
Return CType(pasDate, DateTime)
End If
Catch ex As NullReferenceException
Return Nothing
End Try
Else
Return Nothing
End If
End Function
So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.
