I'm working with an MVC1.0 web app and I've found a bit of an odd anomaly.
I have a search box on the first page (normal text box) and the input from this is passed through to the ViewData and on to the second page.
On the second page, I render a TextArea with this search input text from the ViewData.
Eg:
[Code]....
The problem is, there is an extra line break in the TextArea, just above the original text.
Stranger still is that if I now submit this page and the view is reloaded (after validation fails) - the original string of text has been trimmed and has no line breaks, but the TextArea now has 2 line breaks above the original text.
This can be repeated - every time the page reloads it has another line break.
It's driving me insane - does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
FYI, you can check it out yourself - on your mobile phone, browse to [URL], punch something in the search box and hit search. You'll notice one line break added the first time the page loads. Then just hit "Find Best Offer" without entering a budget or selecting a category, and you'll see what I mean about the additional line breaks.
I have a WYSIWYG editor set up using ASP.NET MVC. When I post, everything is fine, however when I post and there is an error when the page comes back and shows the errors, the value in the textbox is messed up (it has become un-HTML Encoded) and for form validation reasons, this is fine. My question is this - how, in the controller (preferably), can I change the value of the text in the textarea? Even if I use a ViewData["fieldname"] and set the asp code to:
<%= Html.TextArea("fieldname", ViewData["fieldname"], new { id = "fieldthing", name = "fieldthing", cols = "80", rows = "10" })%>
It still doesn't work because that ViewData is the default value which, after the post, isn't returned to that value, it stays whatever was typed.
So any thoughts on how to edit this value? I tried passing in a new view, but that didn't work either.
I Have a asp.net page with textarea. I am getting data from database and putting it in the textarea. I wanted to grow textarea to expand depending upon the text without scrollbars. I could I achieve this in my asp.net page.
View 2 RepliesHow can I put text inside textarea by code? and how can I use the control in the code?
View 5 Repliesthere are a few paragraphs separated by line feeds "
" in a textarea,  say
Paragraph1 "
"
Paragraph2 "
"
Paragraph3 "
"
what i want to achieve is to process each paragraph into tag. How do you do that? (Need a server side solution) so it looks like
<p> Paragraph 1 </p>
<p> Paragraph 2 </p>
<p> Paragraph 3 </p>
On top of the complexity, if you have a blockquote there
Paragraph1 "
"
<blockquote> "
"
test
</blockquote> "
"
Paragraph2 "
"
Paragraph3 "
"
should come out to look like
<p> Paragraph 1 </p>
<blockquote>
<p>test</p>
</blockquote>
<p> Paragraph 2 </p>
<p> Paragraph 3 </p>
Ho do I preserve the layout of text in a TextArea control in asp.net ?e.g.
"This is some text:
- line 1 text
- line 2 text
- line 3 text"
I need to find a way to accurately calculate the byte size of the text inside a particular textarea. I am working in .Net so I have access to those libraries, but I'd prefer a Javascript solution. How many bytes is each character worth? What would be the most efficient way to count and multiply? Or am I missing a better way entirely?
Edit: I'm attempting to determine the download size of a piece of Javascript that has been pasted into a textarea. The closest thing I could find to this is ][URL]. I don't want to just lift their code, especially since I don't fully understand it.
When we give "ShowEditButton = true" in Command Field column in a GridView. It shows the Update and Cancel button. Is it possible to change the text of "Update" button? Instead of Update and Cancel, I want to display as "Confirm and Cancel".
View 1 Repliesi'm unable to update a row in a gridview, Actually everything is fine but when i'm entering some new text in the textbox and if i press update control, it still shows me the previous text, it is not updating and it doesn't write into XML either.
Here is my design:
[Code]....
Here is my Code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
showupdates();
GridView1.DataBind();
}
protected void Button1_Click1(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (TextBox1.Text != "")..........
I have a code for gridview Edit with Boundfields. I want textarea for one of my field as there could be more text in that field and textbox makes harder to read the wholetext.
View 5 RepliesI have a textbox inside edit template and it is binded with the data. Somehow, textbox data starts from the middle instead at the beginning of the box. I can use textarea where it starts from the starting point but I cant bind the data inside the gridview.
View 1 RepliesI have a Gridview looks like this:-
 Region/Product/Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4
===============
US/A/100/200/300/400
UK/B/500/600/700/800
I want to turn 100,200,...600 etc into hyperlinks (I guess I know this part by using hyperlink field), and onclick 100, it will get the point parameters related to the value clicked (in this case, when 100 is clicked it gets US, A, Q1) and url to a new page with datasource parameter based on US,A, Q1
I have three panels on a page:
panel_A has a gridView gv1 with PageSize = "5" OnRowCommand = "LoadCompanyInfo" OnPageIndexChanging="gridView_PageIndexChanging1"
Panel_B has gridview gv2 with PageSize = "5"
OnRowCommand = "SelectEmployee" OnPageIndexChanging="gridView_PageIndexChanging2"
Panel_C has labels CompanyID, CompanyName, EFirst, ELast and EMiddle.
Panel_A panel_B and panel_C are in an update panel.
Each row in gv1 is a LinkButton, so if I click on a row, it runs a method 'LoadCompanyInfo' which updates the labels in panel_C and also populates the gridview on panel_B. This part is working fine, when I click on a row in gv1, it updates the labels text in Panel_C and populates gv2 in panel_B. I am having the following issues:
1. When I click on a row in gv2, it makes the labels text in panel_C blank and gv2 also becomes blank, shows EmptyDataText. I expect it to just update EFirst, ELast and EMiddle. in panel_A.
2. When I click on the next page no on gv1 it fires LoadCompanyInfo method first and then goes in the gridView_PageIndexChanging1 event. I expect it to go in the gridView_PageIndexChanging1 event only and show next page in gv1 and not in LoadCompanyInfo, because I am just clicking on page no 2 not row 2.
3. gv1 refreshes on a timer event OnTick = Timer_Tick, and it clears off data in panel_B and panel_C. I want it to just update panel_A.
I guess I will have to set up nested Update panels to accomplish this.
I have a text box placed inside a gridview(template) . I need to update its value by a dropdown list event (Selected Item Changed event) placed in the same gridVew. But The problem is that , I need to update the text box of the same row the dropdown list (whose textChange Event haas been fired)
[code]....
I have a GridView with two templatefields, one with a DropDownList and the other with a TextBox, both loose their values once I hit the "update" button. Is it any way I can make the controls keep the values?
View 8 RepliesI have what I think is a weird issue. I send text from one page to another via Session Variable. When page 2 loads, the text box has the session text set, but if the user changes the text and clicks the button, the SQL database is update with the original session text. If I remove the redirect from the page 2 button_Click method, then, the page refreshes with the textbox reverting to the session text and thr SQLDataSource has the session text added to it.

i want to update the data of a database through a gridview update button
how can i attach a dataconvertion like this
[Code]....
I want to update multiple rows of gridview (only price field. for that i have added textbox) on click of update button which is outside of gridview.I have done following way
<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkUpdate" CssClass="BlueButton" runat="server" OnClick="lnkUpdate_Click">Update</asp:LinkButton>
[Code]....
Up to this its working fine but when no textbox updated then no need to go in for loop so i am looking for confiramtion before updating rows please help me how to do that becausei am less aware with javascript. another problem is textbox value disappear when page index changed how i can retain that values.
[Code]....
When i try to update a row using the update functionality of Gridview it updates all the rows rather then updating that specific row which is in edit mode.
[Code]....
I have a query . I want to edit the grid view columns in which user click the edit button he will edit the column in the grid and after that i want to add update button so that when he clicks on updates button after editing the row. The row will be updated and the grid will show you the new update row.
Here is my following piece of code.
<asp:GridView ID="noticeDetails" runat="server" BorderWidth="1px" AutoGenerateColumns="false" PageSize="10" Width="100%" CellPadding="10"
               AutoGenerateEditButton="true" onrowediting="noticeDetails_RowEditing" >
             <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="CampaignIDRange">
          <ItemTemplate> <%# Eval("CampaignIDRange")%>
[Code] ....
Basically grid is about that when user enter values intothe grid, the values will show in to the grid upon click button.I added edit button it works fine but it will incomplete without update button method ...
I am unable to get it done as i have huge data in my table which is spoiling the standard look and feel of grid view..
if (row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow) {
      ViewState["description"] = e.Row.Cells[10].Text;
if (e.Row.Cells[10].Text.Length >= 25){
e.Row.Cells[10].Text = e.Row.Cells[10].Text.Substring(0, 30) + "...";
e.Row.Cells[10].ToolTip = ViewState["description"].ToString();}  }
I have a Gridview where I can modify the Time portion of a DateTime field. The update method is working well, except for one thing:The field should only allow the time portion, e.g 08:23:09 but on the Database it saves it as a full DateTime, e.g 10/18/2010 08:23:09 AM. The problem is that upon editing, instead of adding the existing Date portion, it adds the current Date portion. So if I am editing the item from the last example into 08:25:09 instead of adding it as 10/18/2010 08:25:09 AM it adds it as 10/20/2010 08:25:09 AM which is obviously undesired behavior.Here's how I am doing the update:
protected void grvOutHour_RowUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e)
{
GridView grvOutHour = (GridView)this.grvReport.Rows[grvReport.EditIndex].FindControl("grvOutHour");
TextBox txtBox = (TextBox) grvOutHour.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtEditOutHour");
[code]...
i am trying to update the text of a textbox when a user clicks on some dynamically opulated image buttons in a datalist.Every thing of course are in an update panel.
code behind:
