I have web application workung with master page.I want to know when the user is closing the browser' then I'll raise event to clean' session variables.How can I detect the browser closing/I tried the unload jscript event' but it fired when I move from page to page.
View 2 RepliesI have been spending a better part of a week trying to track down why I am not able to clear all session variables in a web app (vs 2010, vb.net). What I have tracked it down to is that when I remove or abandon sessions that my html pages or codebehind access, it works, but for some reason in any of my class files where I use "Public Shared strConnection as String = HttpContext.Current.Session("strConnection").ToString" to access a session variable, it finds the old one and not the current one. I have to wait for it to time out, go in again, and it will find the new one.
I do not use Linq, and there is only one place in the whole web app that I place the connection string in a variable whcih is when a person logs in. It points them to the correct database. The sqlconnection is set for all of my listviews in Page_Init to make sure that they aren't using any session variable that they create on their own. Interestingly enough that if I use debug to go in each time, exit debug, enter debug again trying to access a different database, it works correct each time. I assume that debug is correctly killing the session variable for the classes for me.
I am facing an issue in my application when a user directly clicked on browser close [X] button. Browser can be IE, Chrome, Mozilla, Firefox and many more.
What I want to do:
1. as soon as user hits [X] button of browser, need to set their status as logged off in database for which we have a method in Login.aspx file which is within the master page.
2. We do not have any Logoff feature in the application

I am working on an application that is for online examination,
I need to maintain exam info such that if unexpected closing of browser such as power failure etc, the exam will restart for the user from same last position.
I tried to do it through session state mode sqlserver but problem is what if after closing system without clearing session if some another user want to give exam from same machine?

I want to show a popup about browser compatibility to the users visiting my website. I have used the popup in about 5 pages and it would be annoying for the users to see the same popup for more than once when they visit my website. When logout is clicked, it will call a method to clear the session variables and also some other methods which will clear some data in the oracle tables.
But if the user is clicking on the internet explorer close button, then there is no way to know that the application is closed. For this I got a link where we can write a javascript method and find the unload of the page and execute all of these but pages will be loading and unloading each time user navigates inside the application and I cannot depend on unloading the page.

I had developed an application, which has a functionality to upload a file from My Networks. I browse the file and try to upload it. It works fine in IE6. But in IE8, instead of displaying me the path of the file, it gives C:/Fakepath. When I enable the security setting of browser "include full path while uploading the file from the server", it works fine and gives me the whole path.
I want to save the current date to a table in database. The coloumn type is declared as DateTime in the table, as i may have to select rows between two dates. So i can't change the format by converting it to string variable. I want the DateTime.Date variable to have dd/MMM/yyyy hh:mm tt format instead of MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss tt format.

Its a Html page and not an asp page, i tried adding the menu, style sheet, javascript to my asp.net master page page by making some alterations to the code but it didnt really work. I.e. it dosent fit in well with the other components, the components below it are being pushed away to the right and i have checked the css several times but nothing is obvious.
I was wondering if there are any specific changes that needed to be done in order to accomodate it.I would be happy to paste my code if somebody would like to observe and point out why addng the menu is causing imbalance to the page .
