How To Create Sql Database From Sql Express Database
Dec 14, 2010
I am working on asp.net membership website. I created the membership provider automatically, and now its stored in sql express database within the solution. I want to move all the tables to sql database instead of sql express. Last night I attached the sql express database to the sql server management studio, and I was able to see all the objects. Then, I run my solution in visual studio, and I got error: LOGIN FAILED for the sql express database, and the solution wasn't running.
I have two questions.
1. Why is that happening?
2. If I create the same database in sql server with the same objects, and then point to the sql server database instead of sql express database, will I have problems with the membershop provider?
Using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express with what I'm assuming is Sql 2008 Express. Using SqlDataSource, when I try to configure a data source, I'm able to input a server name: (local)sqlexpress and the "Test Connection" button shows that it was successful. However, if I type in a new database table name and VWD 2008 asks if I would like to create it, I keep getting the message: "OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO AN INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT." No idea what that means or how to fix it. I can't open theDatabase Explorer View.
I am using the Visual Studio 2010 Express to create a web site.I created a database using SQL Express, but I decided to copy the mdf file to App_Data folder thinking I then might not need SQL Server running.I used the connection string that points to the database file in App_Data.
I deployed it to the server (Windows 2000 server with .Net 2.0 and SQL Server 2000) using Copy Web Site.I got the following error. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005,this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
My questions are
1. Do I still need SQL Server running even if I used a database in App_Data? 2. On the server SQL Server 2000 is running, why does the error say SQL Server 2005? 3. Are there anything that I have to consider beyond the version of Framework when deploying after development with VS 2010 (Framework 4.0)?
I've used the WebPI to install SQL Server Express 2008 and VWD2008 SP1. I made sure to install SQL Server first then install VWD. Whenever i use VWD now though and try to add a new SQL Server Database to my website i get the error message "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly."
I'm a little stuck as to where to proceed with this error. I've un-installed everything web development related and re-installed and still get the same error. I was under the impression that VWD2008 SP1 required SQL Server Express 2008 and wouldn't work with SQL Server Express 2005 so can't understand why it now wants it to be installed.
you could create your own custom Profile provider that operates against existing database tables .i want u to help me out if u have an idea where i can get steps by steps to carry out the above operation.i know there are various options in creating profile , particularlly the use of web. configuration, the default ASPNETDB, and XML files, BUT i wish to use an existing database which i prefer.
how I can correct an error. I've built the MVCMusicStore tutorial here:
http://mike-ciccone.com/Store/
The first time I visit the site and attempt a database connection I get this error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
But when I refresh, it all works fine. I'm at a bit of a loss. I don't believe I'm attempting to create a database, but I realise that the error may not really have anything to do with that. This is hosted at GoDaddy shared hosting. The database was created and I used an SQL script to create the tables initially and populate the data. My connection string works as I can pull data from the database, but I do have a feeling it will be a web.config setting that will correct this.
I have problem when I am working on the NerdDinner tutorial. If I create local database (in the project local) then it is working OK, but if I added connection with the database already existed in the SQL EXPRESS 2005 (using Data Connections -> Add Connection; from the Server Explored in the VS 2008) then I got GPF. Does anyone know how to use the database for server instead of local project?
I am attempting to add a database to the AppData folder. It seems to only want to use SQL Express, which I have read is not a good idea for a live website for the purposes of memberships. How do I change the default Express to SQL2008.
I tried to install Amplifeeder today with the Web Platform Installer. When I arrived at the database setup I had to fill out some informations like "db admin user/password" and user username/password. Using SQL Express I do not have any username/password (neither admin or user). How should I be able to install applications with the WPI and SQL Express 2008 ?
Basically I had this error while trying to install in the logs: DownloadManager Error: 0 : MS Deploy exception: Microsoft.Web.Deployment.DeploymentClientServerException: The database 'AmpliFeederDB' could not be created. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'sa'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
have made a complete website with a db with many table and fields........i have to make a database server where only the database will reside
i have read many links, and many answers here, this is what i got installed sql server 2005!
okay on one pc which had only win xp, i installed dotnetframework 3, then installed sql server 2005 and sql server management studio express.when i open the studio express i use windows authentication and server is the default computer nameit starts and show these folder with already present dbs now what should i do, how can i ask this software to host my database file 'abc.mdf' so that i can benefit from the integrity and consistency features offered by the software for databases?
if importing this db is not possible how to make a new one?, i mean there are four folders where to make the new db in?
"how can i ask my webserver (IIS) to connect to this 'SQL Server Management Studio Express'?"
"how can i ask the debugger to connect to SQL Server Management Studio Express on the other computer"
I am trying to access an SQL server2008 database from a VWD 2008 express GridView. I create the SqlDataSource and connect it to the gridview and thenn run the page and it is not rendered on the page. Visible is set to true.
I have written a website in ASP.NET with a back-end database using SQL Express 2008. My database is created and put in the App_Data folder. It is ok when it runs on my local machine. However, when I upload to the web server, I got the error: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and ettingsDesktopProject2_ISAM5337App_DataEvent.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. By the way, I notice a same probelm : When I move my project to a location which is different from specific path for my database, I got the same error message .
I'm currently learning from a ready-made tutorial here and I'm at this step [URL] Now my question is : How do I add the database to my project and don't use SQL Server Express? I created the MvcMusicStore database completely on a SQL Server instance, and modified the web.config included follow code
All other code is same with Tutorial,but the program don't work? I got an error "Entity Command Excution Exception" at this line: var genres = storeDB.Genres.ToList();
I am considering moving my personal website across from one hosting to another the new hosting will use a SQL Server 2008 Express DB. Is there any easy way of moving the information from MySQL to SQL Server 2008 Express DB.
Opening an existing asp.net 3.5 project using VWD Express 2010, the database diagram file under Database Diagrams folder went missing in Database Explorer tab. Everything is in there when I first created the diagram using VWD Express 2008. However, when I look at the .dbml file, the associated relationship between dozens of tables exist and my project runs successfully. I'm planning to create another table with relationships from existing tables but seems like I have to painfully recreate them back from scratch. How can I recover those diagrams?
I jsut installed SQL server and management studio on my PC. For management studio, I created a database with tables. However, When I have data connection for SQL server in visual studio express, I couldn' t see the database I created.
In my web.config, I have attached a SQL express database .. as follows: <add name="eHNDBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:UsersDell-XPS1330DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSitesWebSite4eHNDB.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I need to upload this to my web server so I need to remove the local link .. I tried:
.. but i keep getting this error message when i try to open the page that accesses the DB. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file eHNDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
1- what is the correct syntax to use in my web.comfig?
2- when online, i'm gonna be using sql server and not sql express .. what considerations / changes should i apply as well?
i have using sql server 2005 express managment studio, i have create my database and every thing just i want to extact Database and attach it to My asp.net 3.5 Project how?
I have an ASP.NET 3.5 app with a SQL 2005 Express .mdf database file in its App_Data folder. Lets call that Foo.mdf. On its own the ASP.NET app can connect to the database with no problems. So far so good. Then, if I install Sql Server Management Studio Express on the server and start it, it finds the local SQLEXPRESS instance and connects to it, but doesn't show Foo.mdf in the list of databases.
So I try and Attach Foo.mdf by right-clicking on databases and selecting Attach.. and finding the .MDF. This fails with a vague error:
CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 32(error not found) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:inetpubwwwrootFooAppApp_DataFoo.mdf'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5123)
If I stop my ASP.NET site in IIS, then the attach does work, but then when I restart my ASP.NET app, it can't connect to Foo.mdf. So it looks like SQL Express 2005 will only let either my app or Management Studio connect. This seems really crap - surely Sql Express should allow more than one connection? I was expecting it to behave like regular Sql Server.
It works perfectly the first time I install SSMS 2008 Express and I can access my remote database. But, after I restart my machine and open an instance of SSMS the database node is missing.

After: [:(]
I tried refreshing the database folder but still nothing. I even uninstall but it's still the same.
I'm stumped. I have a client site on a virtual private server - Windows Web Server 2008 SP2, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 Express.I'm trying to setup a second web application, to allow him to review updates prior to their going live. I've created the web application in IIS7, and I have added a second database to SQL Server. The second db is essentially a copy of the production db, with 'DEV' prefixed to the database name and a few new fields in a few tables. My production site works fine. However, the test site comes back with an SqlException: "Invalid column name 'version'." This is one of the new fields - which leads me to believe that my dev site is referring to the production database, and not the dev database. Connection strings, however, do point to different databases (although the login is the same for both):
