How To Access An SQL Server2008 Database From A VWD 2008 Express GridView
Oct 26, 2010
I am trying to access an SQL server2008 database from a VWD 2008 express GridView. I create the SqlDataSource and connect it to the gridview and thenn run the page and it is not rendered on the page. Visible is set to true.
I'm trying to access an SQL Server Express database out of an ASP.NET HTTP request handler. The handler is run under ASPNET account and uses "integrated security" in the SQL connection string and so I get an error message saying that login for ASPNET account failed and so I can't access the database. This seems to be a very common problem and most answers say "grant access to you database to user ASPNET".
I only have Visual Studio 2008 and I can't find how to change access permisssions for a database. Specifically I use Tools->Server Explorer and I can see all the tables in the database but can't find how to change access permissions. How do I change access permissions to my database using tools shipped within Visual Studio 2008?
I have SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and Visual Web Developer 2010 Express installed on my PC.I want users to login to my site and add listings that must be linked to their username. ASP.NET generates the ASPNETDB.mdb file when using login / membership function. How do I access this database from SQL server 2008 R2 Express ?
How do I link this database to my own SQL express database?
I been trying to attach a database in sql 2008 express created in VS 2008 Professional. I have been getting error message and codes which there is no support for once you click the link in the message whats up with that? to my most recent memory it had something to do with permissions... but I was logged in as adminstrator so that confuses me.
Using the Web Platform installer, in installed both the Visual Web Developer Express 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008. Next, I connected to my local SQL Server Express 2008 and created a simple database and table using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 where the database file resided in the app data folder of my website. I can connect and explore the table from both Visual Web Developer 2008 as well as the full blown version of Visual Studio 2008.
Embarrassed that I'm stuck on this I've downlaoded sqlserver express 2008 R2 and VS web developer 2010. Set up a databse wrote a mini test site and am now trying to connect to my database to fetch records back. However i'm getting the error message "Invalid object name 'customer'." (I have a feeling its running it on the master db and not my 'customerdb' but can't prove this as express doesn't have a profiler).
I am using C# and VS 2008 with access database. I have a nested gridview (2) with two access database tables. Date1 (takes System date) is the primary key in table1 and also present in table2 as foreign key. User data is stored in gridview 2 w.r.t to the date in gridview1. What i am tryin to do is to mail todays date (System date) data of Gridview 1 and data corresponding to it in Gridview 2 to a specific mail id.
I am attempting to add a database to the AppData folder. It seems to only want to use SQL Express, which I have read is not a good idea for a live website for the purposes of memberships. How do I change the default Express to SQL2008.
I have written a website in ASP.NET with a back-end database using SQL Express 2008. My database is created and put in the App_Data folder. It is ok when it runs on my local machine. However, when I upload to the web server, I got the error: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and ettingsDesktopProject2_ISAM5337App_DataEvent.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. By the way, I notice a same probelm : When I move my project to a location which is different from specific path for my database, I got the same error message .
Using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express with what I'm assuming is Sql 2008 Express. Using SqlDataSource, when I try to configure a data source, I'm able to input a server name: (local)sqlexpress and the "Test Connection" button shows that it was successful. However, if I type in a new database table name and VWD 2008 asks if I would like to create it, I keep getting the message: "OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO AN INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT." No idea what that means or how to fix it. I can't open theDatabase Explorer View.
I jsut installed SQL server and management studio on my PC. For management studio, I created a database with tables. However, When I have data connection for SQL server in visual studio express, I couldn' t see the database I created.
It works perfectly the first time I install SSMS 2008 Express and I can access my remote database. But, after I restart my machine and open an instance of SSMS the database node is missing.

I tried refreshing the database folder but still nothing. I even uninstall but it's still the same.
I'm stumped. I have a client site on a virtual private server - Windows Web Server 2008 SP2, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 Express.I'm trying to setup a second web application, to allow him to review updates prior to their going live. I've created the web application in IIS7, and I have added a second database to SQL Server. The second db is essentially a copy of the production db, with 'DEV' prefixed to the database name and a few new fields in a few tables. My production site works fine. However, the test site comes back with an SqlException: "Invalid column name 'version'." This is one of the new fields - which leads me to believe that my dev site is referring to the production database, and not the dev database. Connection strings, however, do point to different databases (although the login is the same for both):
I have been using VWD2010 Express for a website that I am working on. Due to a delay in implementing the 4.0 framework at the hosting service that I use, I need to finish up with VWD2008 Express. Is there a simple way to save my project so that it is compatible with 2008?
I built a website using SQL 2008 Express. I want to deploy it to a hosting company (shared server). If I change the SQL 2008 Express database on my local machine (further development of the website), how can i synchronize the local SQL database with the one on the server without loosing data?
I am new to vwd. I installed vwd express edition 2008 with sql express 2008 in xp sp2. After this i installed report view 2008 addon for vwd express. After the installation i noticed that there is no toolbox in my vwd. Before it was there.
is there any difference between sql express and sql client. Actually I have been told to install a sql client using which i will connect to the sql server installed remotely. Also I have sql express edition 2008 installed on my machine. So is it the same. Will I be able to connect to the sql server using the sql server express edition.?
After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).
But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):
This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.
I started working on a website using 2010 Express. However, the hosting company that I am using hasn't fully implemented .NET 4.0. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can save my website for compatability with 2008 express. Then I can finish and publis using 2008 Express.
i granted ASP.NET account the sql server database access but ASP.NET seems not able to coonect to the database. I normally do this from code in windows XP, but its not working on my windows seven. i guess it should be something close to NT AUTHORITY in place of the MACHINE/ASPNET account which i have tried anyway but still not working.
