How To Format The Text In A Databound TextBox
Mar 22, 2010
I have ListView that has the following EditItemTemplate:
<EditItemTemplate>
<tr style="">
<td>
<asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CommandName="Update" Text="Update" />
<asp:LinkButton ID="CancelButton" runat="server" CommandName="Cancel" Text="Cancel" />
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="FundingSource1TextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("FundingSource1") %>' />
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="CashTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Cash") %>' />
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="InKindTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("InKind") %>' />
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="StatusTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Status") %>' />
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="ExpectedAwardDateTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("ExpectedAwardDate","{0:MM/dd/yyyy}) %>' onclientclick="datepicker()" />
</td>
</tr>
</EditItemTemplate>
I would like to format the "ExpectedAwardDateTextBox" so it shows a short date time but haven't found a way to do this without going into the code behind. In the Item template I have the following line to format the date that appears in the lable:
<asp:Label ID="ExpectedAwardDateLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# String.Format("{0:M/d yyyy}",Eval("ExpectedAwardDate")) %>' />
And I would like to find a similar method to do with the insertItemTemplate.

I am trying to get text in a textbox to format such that it displays in the middle.
For the control, I have theming off, I have tried a css file, and even a direct style with the HTML. For some reason it just ignores me or I am using the wrong parameter.
Here is my css. I know that CSS is working because as I change the other parameters, the control changes.

I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:
<asp:Label id="WebDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("WebDescription") %>' ForeColor="Brown" />

I'm using jquery autocomplete to call a .aspx page which returns some matching words.
The jQuery stuff relies on a JSON feed to work. Currently, in my C# I'm formatting the output as a string, which ouputs something like this:
{ query:'aa','aardvark','aardvarks']}
I was hoping that because the string is formatted in the JSON format, that would be good enough for the Javascript to process but it appears not.
how to format this text in C# into proper JSON format which JavaScript can deal with properly?

i would like to display phone number fields on a website as (123) 456-7890 but have the system see it as 1234657890 when calling myTextBox.Text i am thinking this would require overriding the text property and cleaning it up in the overridden property but wanted to run this past the community.

How to use pattern replacement in the RTF?. For example you can add a placeholder like {USER_FIRST_NAME} in the RTF document. When the user clicks the download button, your application can take the information from the database and replace every instance of {USER_FIRST_NAME} with the data from the database....

Let's say I have DropDownList ddlRooms bound to the datasource which returns list of available rooms from table tblRooms. On the other hand I have users, and their info is stored in table tblUsers. Using FormView frmUsers can be inserted, edited and updated... frmUsers is be bound to separate datasource. To each user, I would ilke to assign a room, so the value of txtUserRoom will be populated based on the selected value from ddlRooms. How can i pass the selected value of ddlRooms to txtUserRoom while keeping txtUserRoom stil bound to user datasource? Do I need two separate fileds or can i just put value of ddlRooms into datasource user?

I want to render something like this (with ASP.Net Controls in the codebehind):
<ul>
<li class="first"><h1>This is a caption</h1></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo1</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo2</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo3</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo4</a></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li class="first"><h1>This is a another caption</h1></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo5</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo6</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo7</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo8</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo9</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo10</a></li>
<li><a href="#" title="" target="_self">Foo11</a></li>
</ul>
The amount of li elements that will be rendered into each ul is determined at runtime. Each link in a li belongs to into a specific ul (the one containing a specific caption. Imagine this as a kind of a treeview with nodes and subnodes) During the bind Event I need access to an ASP:HyperLink that will be rendered into the a-element. Which databound ASP.Net control should I pick for this? Looks like a repeater in a repeater, which should make the databinding process ugly. I'm thinking about creating this HTML-Output with StringWriters myself.

I have what I think is a weird issue. I send text from one page to another via Session Variable. When page 2 loads, the text box has the session text set, but if the user changes the text and clicks the button, the SQL database is update with the original session text. If I remove the redirect from the page 2 button_Click method, then, the page refreshes with the textbox reverting to the session text and thr SQLDataSource has the session text added to it.

I have a page with a text box, a button and a GridView. Enter an account number in the text box, press the check button and the result will show in the GridView.
Now user wants that if the text box is clear, the GridView disappear.
I can only find TextBox1_OnTextChanged. But I want to have that while the user is clearing the text, if the length of text becomes zero, the GridView is clear out. So I am looking for OnTextChanging(). Well of course this function does not exist. How to achieve the same purpose?
