How To Log User Interactions With A Web Application
Mar 8, 2010
May me my question is silly, but i wonder what's the best way to do this, what's the best impplementation use in reald world applications.
I want to log all interactions of an ASP web application. Say that a user login to the system, and do serveral things, like adding items deleteing items, and so on. So what've done is simplely cdefine a method to log information.

Im currently starting on a project where im using NHibernate for dealing with the DB interactions, and MVC2 (RC) for the front end... and im just wondering if there are any decent tutorials on how to minimize the amount of duplicated validation that needs to be entered to validate thigns in NHibernate and try to mirror those constraints client side.. Ive looked at xVal which looks great, but i cant seem to get it to work and there dont seem to be that many articles about it. Also alot of people are mentioning that its going to become redundant at the MVC level in MVC2 due to the data annotation validation. So im really just after some more information/advice and links on the subject really...

Create a class Employee which will implement the below interface: IEmployee. The application should accept the function to invoke and its parameters from the console in the Format:
[MethodName]:[Parameter1]:[Parameter2]
Ex: SetProperty:Age:44
The implemetation shold have the necessary checks on whether the input is in correct format by handling like FormatException.And the program should be able to continuously accept the input and print corresponding output until the input given as "Exit".
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
namespace ConsoleApplication1
[CODE]..
Issue: I am unable take the user input in the corresponding format.in the above code everytime I have to give the user input in the format "Set:Age:33" but this is not I m looking for .Actually firstly the expected input and output should be given in the format as per the screenshot I have attached.

How do I utilize a user control from Application B within Application A?
Application A is a VB.NET App
Application B is a C# app.
This code attempts to register the control for usage in an aspx file:
<%@ Register TagPrefix="uc1" TagName="Pager" Src="../ApplicationB/Controls/PagingControl.ascx" %>
I get the following error:
Parser Error Message: The virtual path '/ApplicationB/Controls/PagingControl.ascx' maps to another application, which is not allowed. Can I use Application B's PagingControl.ascx within Application A?

I have an application, which requires a user login.The customer I have does not want the session to time out.I have set the webconfig timeout to 160000 to prevent this but I still get an error when the time passes 20 minutes because I use session objects.Can I automatically refresh the browser every 10 minutes if it is not used, so the user can always use the application again after e.g. 3 hours?

What's the best way to cache web site user data in asp.net 4.0? I have a table of user settings that track all kinds of user or session specific stuff like the state of UI elements (open/closed), preferences, whether some dialog has been dismissed, and so on. Since these don't change very often (for each user, anyway) but are looked up frequently it seems sensible to cache them. What's the best way? These are the options I've identified...
Store them in HttpContext.Current.Session directly (e.g. Session["setting_name"]) Store them in HttpContext.Current.Cache Use a global static dictionary, e.g. static ConcurrentDictionary<string,string> where the key is a unique userID + setting name value Store a dictionary object for each session in Session or Cache What's the most sensible way to do this? How does Session differ from Cache from a practical standpoint? Would it ever make sense to store a dictionary as a single session/cache object versus just adding lots of values directly? I would think lookups might be faster, but updates would be slower since I'd have to re-store the entire dictionary when it changed.
What problems or benefits might there be to using a global static cache? Seems like this would be the fastest, but I'd have to manage the size. I could just flush it periodically if it hits a certain size, or keep a cross reference queue and remove things oldest first when it gets to a certain size. Does this make any sense or is it just trying too hard?

I'm working on an application, where several products has their own website/application, while everything is stored in one SQL 2008 database.
When someone wants to buy a product (software licenses) they fill out a form and their info is transmitted to another site where all administration and payment is handled.
When the customer has payed with Paypal and is returned to the payment page, their info is saved to database, and a user account is created.
In order to create the user for the correct application, I use the following code to change the application name, create the user there, and change back.
[Code]....
This goes partly fine. The user is created in the aspnet_Users (in the wanted application) and assigned a role correctlu. When trying to approve the user, however, an error is thrown:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
The user is never created in the aspnet_Membership table.

I have an ASP.NET MVC application that use the default ASP.NET Membership Provider. My customer asked to implement a feature that prevent users to log in (for example for users that resign and leave the company). I cannot use the IsApproved flag of the Membership table because that field is used to confirm user egistration. Is there any built in functionality for doing this? What are your experiences in scenarios like this?

I have a website that has a login (Like most websites xD) This then obviosly fetches information from a database and loads it on the page. (EG. Welcome "Display Name")
I have designed and coded a application for my site you can use the features from my web on your desktop, I have added a login (required to use the application) and a register. Both login and register work (Fetching information from the database and writing to the database).
Now I have those out of the way I'm now onto the main part of my program which is to display infomation onto the application about the user account. This could include editing the user account, uploading content to the website or viewing content from the website.. (Sorry but I'd like to explain how I have certain things to get the point across clearly )
Anyway how would I create a sort of session? Like PHP, once you login you can grab information from the database based on the information submitted from the login which was fetched from the database.. When the user presses login on my application it brings them to the main part of the application but I'm now unsure how to load variables and/or session data.
(Side note, I have also sha encryption on my website in the register/login, at the moment VB reads the information from the textbox as normal text is there anyway I can get it to read the sha encryption? and also insert data into the database with this encryption?) - This question is optional.

I have created a user control as part of an asp.net web application. This control works fine. I have then moved the control into a class library and attempted to reference it in my original application. I find that the asp controls created in the ascx for the control (texboxes and buttons) are no longer instantiated i.e. I get a null reference exception in my Page_Load event handler when I try to reference them. The only change to the page in my original application has been to change the register statement to load the control libary dll otherwise this is identical to when the conmtrol was part of the application:

I am trying to get the full name of a given user from active directory. This code works on my PC but when I put it on the server it throws exception:
The network path was not found.
The code is:
DirectoryEntry obDirEntry = null;
try
{
obDirEntry = new DirectoryEntry("WinNT://" + "domain" + "/" + Environment.UserName);
System.DirectoryServices.PropertyCollection coll = obDirEntry.Properties;
object obVal = coll["FullName"].Value;
Response.Write(obVal);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
Response.Write(ex.Message);
}
how to fix so it would work on the server also? Or maybe some other way I can get the full name of a given user name? Do I need to use LDAP instead somehow?
