i have to write this piece of code in almost 10 to 15 content pages. i am just wondering if i can class file as base class for my content pages and write this piece of code in that class.

can somebody guide me how to write the base class for this scenario?
my MasterPage I have a label that reflects the name of the module that the user is currently in. I change the label text accordingly using the following ..
Instead of placing this method in the code-behind of every page, I want to put it in a single class and call it accordingly. I thought of using a static class but do not know how to reference the MasterPage.Can I use a static class? or do I place the method in the code-behind of one page and call Object.Method from the other pages?
I am attempting to access a textbox control on a master page from a code behind base class but having problems. I have 3 levels of master pages. m1.master is the master page for m2.master which is the master page for m3.master.m3.master has a textbox as shown below
I think this may be a question for the architecture forum, but it feels a bit newb to me, so here goes.
I'm trying to write a utility class to use throughout my C# ASP.NET websites. I am having trouble getting intellisense to see the methods in my class. What I'm doing is creating a static class and putting it in a namesapce and with a using directive, importing that class into the code-behind of my web form. But it's not working. I would also like to minimize the visibility of the code i.e. use the least accessible access modifier necessary for use in my util class.
Which method would you like to place in tyour common class in asp.net application? A common function which you use in almost all your asp.net project question.
I have this method that I'm currently putting in each page I make, I know there should be a good way to move it to a single place for ease of maintenance and simplicity. I'm just not sure how I should handle the event handler. The event handler needs to be on each page, so how would I pass in a reference to the page properly so I can reference the event handler?
This is my first class ever buildt (I am a real beginner) in C#. My aim is to "Sanitize a string". The class should do: trim an input make the first letter upper case. Is there a way to better code it? Would it make sense to use a PARAMETER for a method like: CapitalizeFirstLetterTrim(string x) when I initiate an object I need write a lot of code like below, any other way to make it shorter?
UserInputSanitizer myInput = new UserInputSanitizer(); myInput.Input = " ciao world"; string ouput = myInput.CapitalizeFirstLetterTrim(); Useful resource http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb311042.aspx ----------- CLASS using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; namespace WebProject.Core.Utilities { public class UserInputSanitizer { // Backing variables private string _input; // Properties public string Input { set { _input = value; } } private string _output; // Backing variables // Properties public string Output { get { return _output; } } public string CapitalizeFirstLetterTrim() { // Trim _input.Trim(); // Make First letter UpperCase and the rest levae lower case _output = _input.Substring(0, 1).ToUpper() + _input.Substring(1); return Output; } } }
The HTML label control is on master page. And I want to access its value on other aspx.cs page. As there are many other control on the master page so i use the recursive function to access the value but NullReferenceException occurs... The code on aspx.cs page is as:
I have a label within my master page that is part of our footer. In the footer, we are wanting to display page specific information. So as you make your way around the site, the footer will contain content about that page along with other data that is universa on the entire site.I had a somewhat similar question some time back that i posted here..
http://forums.asp.net/t/1615850.aspx it was for a shopping cart of sorts..
cartct.Text = ShoppingCart.Instance.Items.Count().ToString() + " Items In Cart";
If Label is in master page, you have to use FindControl to get the Label and udpate its text
((Label)Master.FindControl("cartct")).Text=String.Format("{0} Items In Cart",ShoppingCart.Instance.Items.Count() );
once you select another page, you dont have it anymore,If you want to share data across different pages, consider using Session to save Items count.
I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls.
I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ?
the first one is MasterPageA.Master which has some controls; the second one is MasterPageB.Master which is son of MasterPageA and it has some other controls.
There is also another page, named Default1.aspx, which is son of MasterPageB.Master.
I need to access to a label control put in the Content part of MasterPageB.Master.
I tried to fit the code that I usually use for one level (Master-Son) found at this page and I've write in Default.aspx.vb this code:
I am feeling that I have terribly wrong somewhere. I was working on a small asp.net app. I have some dynamic themes in the heme folder and have implemented a page base class to load the master page on the fly. The master is having the ContentPlaceHolder like: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphBody" runat="server" />
Now I am adding pages that are derived from my base class and added the form elements. I know, Visual Studio has problem showing the page in the design mode. I have a dropdown box and wish to add the event of onselectedindexchange. But it is not working. the page is like this:
I have a div on my master page and I want to use it for showing page errors. I have an error display class and it works fine. My problem is that in some instances, the error gets displayed even before the tag resulting in (non)-display of the message. This is mostly with code that has response.redirect.
I want to counter this by having the error shown on a div within my master page.
How can I access <div id="errorSegment" runat="server">?
I run through some code in my debugger that is definitely changing the value of a label on a master page. But it's not changed on the page:
// set the label on the masterpage olbl.Text = Session["TestScriptCount"].ToString() + " Test Scripts"; Label olbl = (Label)Page.Master.FindControl("TestScriptCount"].ToString() + " Test Scripts";
I am having a slight problem with adding text (output from a stored procedure) to a label control that is nested inside a contentplaceholder (ContentPlaceHolderProductsLeftCol). The page is also using master pages.
Below are excerts of the code - I think I would have to use teh findcontrol property however I am quite lost.
Label name is lastname and is located in ContentPlaceHolderProductsLeftCol
I'm creating a web site and I have this question, I installed a label with the name Userlbl in the master page, and the idea that I have, is when somebody opens the website, the label shows the computer's user, in my case Welcome: "Charly_csh"
I tried with this code, that I used before in access and it works, when I load the page on the localhost, but when I load on the server, it shows NETWORK SERVICE
I'm trying to write a way of setting the css class on the body tag in a master page from the content form page through a page directive variable. Everything seems like it should work here, however when I use my BodyCssClass variable, the page content isn't generated, just the master page content. Also, if instead of using the page directive variable, I just put <% BodyCssClass = "mybodyclass"; %> in default.aspx, that works.
[BasePage.cs] using System; using System.Data; using System.Configuration;
How to access controls in master page using javascript? The master page consists of a search textbox, on key down event of the control I call a javascript function writtern inline of the master page. I get the value of entered in textbox in that javascript function. I have tried giving document.getElementById("<%=txtSearch.ClientID %>").value as well as document.getElementById("txtSearch").value. Both display error. I have to access the textbox control from within the master page itself!
This code occurs on every single page and it works fine, but my problem is I want to put them on a class file and make it available to the entire application. using System.Configuration;............
