I'm trying to run a website (site2) that I've placed inside a folder (dir-site2) of another website (site1). The default file of site2 displays fine in every browser on my local computer, as in when I type http://localhost:45912/www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx. But when I upload everything to my host's server and type this
http://www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx I get a server "can't access" error message. I can't display any file that is inside the subdirectory, dir-site2.

I have attempted to deploy my first WEB application and needed to include the Membership for Internet login. Application works fine when I use Visual Web Developer, but when I deploy to my provider when I attempt to Login, I eventually get the error message (this was after I turned on the debug="true" - full message is
[Code]....
When I copied the application to the WebSite, I assumed that the ASPNETDB.MDF needed to be copied too with everything that I defined for users and roles. Looked at the WEB.CONFIG and expected to see something defined here as to where it is located, etc. Do not see anything in my project with the name.

I am developing an ASP.NET 3.5 website using Visual Studio 2008 professional on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. The website is hosted on the local machine IIS with no problems at all. I got a new server (Windows Server 2008 R2), I created a new virtual directory on IIS to host my website. When I try to publish it, I get this error: "The Web server does not appear to have FrontPage Server Extensions installed." I have searched online and it appears that FrontPage extensions have been removed from IIS 7.5

We have a virtual server hosted to the third party which we access through remote desktop. We have Sql server 2008 on Windows 2008. I created a website on my local hard drive and now we are ready to deploy. My question is what are the recommendations for publishing websites? What steps I need to take care of? Is it possible not to deploy the "code-behind" files. Incase of hacking of windows server, I do not want somebody to see my .vb files or Is it possbile that I can convert the whole thing except aspx files in to a strong dll?

Is it worth while considering a CDN for a UK hosted site with mostly UK traffic.
The server is in London, so I am not sure if it would be worth it as I guess any CDN server is just going to be in London as well?
Am I right in thinking that CDN is really only applicable for US websites (due to the geographical size of the country) and global sites?

In my asp.net application (an inhouse software) I want users to be able to use files from Network (filepath stored in database). I use the following code to download the files:
string strAttachmentID = ((Label)GridViewNotes.Rows[GridViewNotes.SelectedIndex].FindControl("lblAttachmentID")).Text;
int AttachmentID = Convert.ToInt32(strAttachmentID);
Attachment attachment = Attachment.GetAttachment_ByAttachmentID(AttachmentID);
[Code]....
Is there anyway to open the file without downloading it in a web based application, i.e. open the file directly from the network so when the users edit it and save it, the actual file is changed.

I have a NEW company issued Dell laptop just installed VS 2008 Pro. When I am at work logged into the network all is well. When I go home and try to work is when I have issues (on or off of VPN does not mater; I get the same issue.). I open VS 2008 and try to open any aspx file in the IDE it freezse and will stay that way. I can open the ebCongif file if I try it first. Just cannot open aspx files....I have to open the task manager to kill the process. If any one has had this issue ...Also because we only have dot net framework 2.0 on our servers I am working with 2.0 in VS 2008.

I setup the project on the network instead of localhost? I want to setup a Remote Site, I think is the lingo Go into visual studio File, open website and put the website name in the box and a password to open the source.Create a unique url name like myWebApp.mycompany.com
When I create a new website application in visual studio. When I am ready to debug Visual Studio sets all this up for me and it runs on local host automatically.I guess in my scenario I gotta set it up manually. How do I accomplish this?I created a new virtual directory, went through the permissions wizard and keep getting this error:
Failed to access IIS metabase.
