C# - How To Create A Extension Method To Sum Up A Column Of A Generic Constrained Type In A Datatable

Oct 1, 2010

Is something like the below possible?

public static T Sum<T>(this DataTable dt, string columnName)
where T : IEnumerable<decimal>, IComparable<decimal>[code]....

It feels like i'm almost there, but not quite :/

Just trying to sum up either decimal or int values in a column in datatable. Currently getting a compile error, however think this is due to the incorrect generic constraint.

C# And Anonymous Types - Iterate Through A DataTable While Manually Building An Anonymous Type

Jan 18, 2010

I am currently implementing a client-side paging solution using ASP.NET, jQuery and JSON.

I have been following the excellent article from encosia: http://encosia.com/2008/08/20/easily-build-powerful-client-side-ajax-paging-using-jquery/

In my Web Method I retrieve my data from the database as a DataTable:

DataTable categoryProducts = ProductViewerAccess.GetCategoryProducts
("AA", 4, 0, Page.ToString(), out howManyPages, "FALSE", 0, "CostPrice", "asc", destinationList);

I then retrieve the data from the DataTable into an anonymous type:

var feeds =
from feed in categoryProducts.AsEnumerable()[code]....

This all works great.

However, I would like to extend the code to perform some evaluation checks (e.g., check that various columns in the DataTable are not NULL) and other pre-processing (e.g., call various functions to build the image URL based on the image ID - which is another column in the DataTable not shown in the code fragment) before I return the resulting rows of the DataTable as an anonymous type to the client-side.Basically, I want to iterate through the DataTable, perform the evaluation checks and pre-processing, while building my anonymous type manually as I go. Or maybe there is a better way to achieve this?

DataSource Controls :: System.Data.Datatable Updating SQL Server Image Field

Jul 1, 2010

I have a datatable for which i'm defining a dataadapter. I'm specifying an updatecommand with sqlparameters for the dataadapter I set the updatecommand's parameters using the following overload:

[Code]....

The length 16 is used because this is the length of the field according to sql (the image datafield is a pointer of size 16) I noticed .Net is actually truncating the string because of the length i'm setting. An image of size 3kb will properly upload if we set the length field to be greater than 3kb The question I have is what is the proper value (or strategy) to use in order to set for the length field so that ALL images will properly update to the database, with each using the appropriate size.

I guess i could theoretically set the length to be maxint, but this seems sloppy. Looking at sqlparameter documentation i didnt see an 'unlimited' or 'default' length i could set, which would allow each update statement called to use the appropriate size for the data length for that row.

IPhone To MS SQL Image Data Type Conversion

Mar 2, 2011

I am currently developing an iPhone app that will work as a security check-in system for events at a church. The main goal is to be able to search a pre existing MS SQL database for a participant, and then save them to a list on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. Easy enough. One of the fields in the MS SQL database is of Image data type, and its function is to store the participant's image in binary form. I currently am not allowed to switch to varbinary(MAX). From the iPhone, I use:

UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"nameOfImage.jpg"];
NSData *imageData = UIImageJPEGRepresentation(image,1.0);
NSString *imageString = (NSString *)[[[NSString alloc] init] base64StringFromData:(NSData *)imageData];

You may be wondering what the base64StringFromData is. It's a category discussed here, Any base64 library on iphone-sdk? In the category, it returns a string as NSASCIIStringEncoding. I then send that string to a Visual Basic web service using POST. Assume in the following that I have already set up and opened my SQL connection, and initlialized a SQL Data adapter and command. So the function looks similar to this:

Public Function sendCommand(ByVal image As String) As String
Dim commandString As String
commandString = "insert into phoneApp(image) values(@image)"
Dim encoding As New System.Text.UTF8Encoding
sqlDataAdapter.InsertCommand = (commandString, sqlConnection)
sqlDataAdapter.InsertCommand.Parameters.Add(@"image", SqlDbType.Image, image.length).Value = encoding.GetBytes(image)
sqlDataAdapter.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Function

Now, finally, here's what is happening. In another function, I call Response.BinaryWrite(SqlDataReader.Item("image")). In Internet Explorer, doing this would then make the image appear in the browser. Instead, it displays the string in base64 form. Copy and pasting that string in a base64 converter off the net, and it works. So the encoding on the iPhone did encode to base64 properly. Here's the question. Do I even need to be encoding to base64 to save into Image Data Type, or should I be focusing on learning how to encode the NSData into a different binary string?

VS 2008 Open Input Type File On Image Click

Nov 13, 2010

I am trying to streamline the look of my site and I was wondering if there was a way to use the onclick of an image to open up a <input type="file.../>? I want the input to be invisible so it doesn't add clutter to the interface. Here is ultimatly the flow I would ideally have... Image click -> Javascript calls input open. User clicks "open" in the dialog, Input calls some Javascript that calls the click event of the inviable "upload" button. Boom. User clicks image, selects a new one, and I have it automatically on my server without the need for two more buttons... Anyone know if these types of events/functions exists and if so what they are called and how to capture them? Or should I stop making this over complicated and use the method that I know works?

Web Forms :: ASP Button Vs INPUT Type= "image"

Jan 7, 2010

I'm making a temporary Shopping Cart that moves all the items from the Shopping Cart to PayPal's Secure Online Shopping Cart. They require a <FORM> tag WITHOUT the Runat="server" and they require an INPUT Type="Hidden" variables AND INPUT Type="Image". I have been able to transfer items successfully with this using a Repeater Control to fill the HIDDEN variables. HOWEVER, at the same time that the variables are being transferred to a different page (PayPal's page).

I need to delete the items from my Shopping Cart (I.E. Delete them from a database), and the only way I can think of doing this is using a Standard ASP:Button with code in VBScript to delete the items from the database. When I try to use the Onclick event to access VB Code in the INPUT Type=Image, it does not work. Is there a way to use the INPUT Type=Image button to access VB Code or is there a way to send HIDDEN variables to another page using VBScript?
