View 3 RepliesIs this normal? Whois and my windows hosting account at godaddy both say the DNS records for my domain are changed to the godaddy ones, but the domain still points to the old server. Do I have to wait longer?

We have an old app we are moving to a new server and the dates are screwing up (we are in England dd/MM/yyyy) on an assynchronous thread.
Googling it appears that each thread needs to be set to a specific culture otherwise it defaults to the 'OS default locale'. We don't want to change the code so looks like we need to change the os default locale.
Just to be completely clear - does a new thread in asp.net default to the app.config setting (no), machine.config settings (?), app pool account settings (Network Service in our case), Local Service or the Local System account locale settings? Can the default be changed through the Administration tab in regional setting (WS2008)?
Second question, when looking at Environment.UserName, it is showing the server name (xxxx$) rather than Network Service (which is running the app pool). Why is this?
Also, do we need to worry about Input Language, or just Format (locale)?
Is it possible for the Welcome Page to be showing as English (United Kingdom) but the system accounts to actually be English (United States)?
I'm having a ridiculous problem. I'm trying to use URL rewrite to redirection from www.domain.com to www.domain.com/default.aspx.I thought by setting default.aspx as the default document it would automatically drop the user there. But for some reason it still comes up www.domain.com.The reason I want it to go to www.domain.com/default.aspx is that the login control on the page doesn't seem to want to work when it is just the www.domain.com. But of course if I type in the www.domain.com/default.aspx then the login works fine. The login control doesnt seem to post at all if it is www.domain.com.
View 2 RepliesI hope you can answer the following question for me. I have a server with win 2008 installed and a simple asp.net application that is successfully sending a email through System.Net.Mail.Smtpclient("localhost").Now my 1st question is, how exactly is this mail sent if there is no Default Smtp Virtual Server installed?Next question...I get an error when I try to send an email that is larger than around 4MB. I know this is to do with the limit that is specified on the server but where is this limit set?
Third Question...fter installing a new Smtp Virtual Server #1 in the IIS6 console, I am able to see and change the file size limit on email but I cannot work out for the life of me how to send emails from my asp.net application through this smtp virtual server.Obviously the best fix for me would be to work out where the default smtp server is and how to manage it rather than installing another one and then trying to route all applications through this new virtual server.When I think I set it all up correctly I get the old "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for (email address)", ie I have given my new virtual smtp server a unique ip and port number and changed the Smtp E-mail page within IIS to point to this new server.
Is it possible to hide the file names ex: default.aspx after my domain name and is it recommended?
I want users only to see www.domain.com whether they are on domain.com/about.aspx or any other pages, only domain.com should be visible in the url.
installed IIS on WinXP and created a virtual directory, placing all required files and setting access permissions for it, but I keep getting the error message:
[Code]....
It happens for every page I try to load, even the simplest "Hello world" ones. Could you give me some pointers on this one ?
When i created a simple site via Matrix which adopts Razor technology by default, i found site automatically display "default.cshtml" if started through "http://localhost:xxxx/bread/" ; however i hadn't set "default.cshtml" as "default document" for this site, even i seek in the "applicationhost.config" i just find
<defaultDocument enabled="true">
<files>
<add value="Default.htm" />
<add value="Default.asp" />
<add value="index.htm" />
<add value="index.html" />
<add value="iisstart.htm" />
<add value="default.aspx" />
</files>
</defaultDocument>
which apparently hasn't "...cshtml" yet. So I am wondering now why in this case the web server actively sets "default.cshtml" as default start page ?
Here is my scenario.In default.aspx page user selects the country, state, city from drop down list, and store them in cache for further use. but when other user open the web site from other computer it shows the same country, state, and city selected by user 1. Is there any problem related to cache? I have stored data as following.
cache["ctryID"] = ctryID;
cache["stateID"]= stateID;
cache["cityID"]= cityID;
I want to show default country, state , city at page load of default.aspx
I am getting an error saying "ASPNET account is not present in this machine" when I try to install Sitecore on my machine after I installed visual studio 2008..
- My machine is running on windows XP sevice pack 3
- I installed Visual Studio 2008 and .NET framework version 3.5 SP1 on that machine
- I can see that ASPNET User group account Under Users and Groups and it doesn't have "Account is locked out" ticked under general tab
- Also I ran aspnet_regiis -i many times but didn't help; actually I red in one post that I should delete ASPNeT account first and run the script but still didn't help
- when I view http://localhost on IE I can view the ASP home page without any problem but Firefox asks me to enter user name and password.
I have also installed SSL on a subdomain. I have put payment page under this sub domain.
View 4 RepliesMy feeling says it's not posible but anyway I am curious if there is at least a workaround for accomplish this.Basically I am working at my client site and my machine is not connected to the domain.What I want to do is running a web application locally under a domain account, and using the webdev server.The webapp uses the default authentication, windows authentication that is.I tried using impersonation with domainuser & password but I got the following error Could not create Windows user token from the credentials specified in the config file. Error from the operating system 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.I have to mention that the username and the password are correct.
View 1 RepliesWe have a ASP.NET site that partially depends on forms authentication for login credentials, however the implementation of IPrincipal is completely custom.
But, when running the site on a particular server (which is somewhat semi-hardened when it comes to security), the app crashes when invoking IPrincipal.IsInRole() with the following messsage:
System.SystemException: The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed.
This indicates a communication error between the web-server and the DC, however since our application doesn't at all utilizes Windows authentication, I don't see why it needs to communicate with the DC.
This is my implementation:

EDIT:
I was finally enable to reproduce this error on my dev-machine (i revoked my machine from the DC yesterday, but didn't reproduce it until today)
HttpContext.User is actually a WindowsPrincipal by default it seems, and the error in my code was that I only replace it with CustomPrincipal upon login. Hence, unathenticated users still get the WindowsPrincipal which then fails horribly if you have trust issues on your AD.
I tried changing the default principal by invoking this on appstart
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy( PrincipalPolicy.NoPrincipal);
But this doesn't seem to kick in. How do I change the default Principal in ASP.NET?
Im returning the username from sharepoint site as a string. This is done successfully with the below code but I also get the domain with it. How can I only return the username and not the domain either through sharepoint or programmatically removing it? domain/username

View 1 RepliesSo bit the bullet and installed vs2010 finally. However, when loading an existing vs2008 project, I am getting this error: "The project type is not supported by this installation." the only thing special about this project is that it's a "web application projects" type. what I've tried so far are these steps, but none of these solve my problem:
(1) run "devenv /setup"
(2) regsvr32.exe "%ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0Common7IDEProjectAggregator.dll"
I have created a MSI file for my windows service but at the time installtion it is prompting set Service login for login name, Password and confirm password. So I am not able to install that service.

View 2 RepliesI have a main domain "mydomain.com" and then a sub domain "forums.mydomain.com". If a user visits "forums.mydomain.com" without being logged in, they are redirected to "mydomain.com/login.aspx".
The two scenarios are:
If they are redirected to the login page with "mydomain.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=http://forums.mydomain.com", then they are succesfully logged into the forums but NOT the main site.
If they are simply redirected to the login page with "mydomain.com/login.aspx" with no returnUrl, they are correctly logged into both the main site and the forums.
I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):
[Code]....
Does anybody know the cause of the error? Is there an easier and less time consuming solution than reinstalling the whole system?
I have a domain: http://www.mydomain.com. This domain is redirected to http://mydomain.anotherDomain.com.
I user forms authorization, so when the user navigates to Default.aspx he is redirected to Login.aspx. Pretty standard stuff.
On FireFox the user can log in on both on http://www.mydomain.com and http://mydomain.anotherDomain.com.
But with Explorer http://www.mydomain.com doesn't work. I only get the Login.aspx page.
Can it have anything to do with that on http://www.mydomain.com I can't see the filename ('Default.aspx', 'Login.aspx')? How can I enable so the filename is included in the redirected domain?
I have an intranet web application. There are 2 user groups, group A belongs to the domain and group B does not. If I set the IIS to enable anonymous access, Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") always return nothing. If I disable anonymous access and set Integrated Windows authenication, a Windows login prompt will come up if group B's users want to access the website.
How can I setup IIS so that when domain user access the website, it will direct to the main page with Session("user_name") = Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER"). If a user is not a domain user, the website will direct him/her to a login.aspx instead of having the Windows authenication prompt, then set Session("user_name") = txtUserName.Text, and finally redirect to the website main page ?
