Iis7 - Timeout And Auto Logout In 2.0 With IIS 7 Even After Doing All The Possible Settings?

Oct 21, 2010

I have an ASP.NET 2.0 web site hosted on Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7. I am using InProc session mode (specified in web.config). My client wants the timeout to be of 3 hours, meaning if the web site is idle, session should remain alive for 3 hours. Currently, what is happening is that if the web site is idle for 20-30 min. and if the user to tries to access any link, it redirects to login page.

I searched on internet and did all the possible settings (as follows):

In web config, session state, time out = 180 minutes.
In web config, forms authentication, time out = 180 minutes.
In IIS 7, Site->Features View->Session state - Session State Mode Setting: In Proc and Cookie Setting->Time out = 180 minutes
In IIs 7, Site->Features View->ASP->Services->Session Properties->Time out = 03:00:00 hours
In IIS 7, Application Pools->Site->Advanced Setting->Process Model->Idle Time-out = 180 minutes.

Even after doing all these settings, timeout has not increased and still if the web site is idle for 20-30 mins. and user tries to access the link, it redirects to login page.

Additional Information:
Whenever it redirects to login page after idle of 20-30 mins., and if I check the event log on server, it says something like (I am not sure whether this error is related to this particular issue or not):
"Forms authentication failed for request. Reason: The ticket supplied has expired"

Installation :: Installation Of 2010 Failed On Windows 7?

Feb 22, 2011

I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):

[Code]....

Does anybody know the cause of the error? Is there an easier and less time consuming solution than reinstalling the whole system?

.net - IIS7 Integrated Pipeline: Interaction Between MaxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU And RequestsQueueLimit Settings?

Jan 19, 2011

Firstly there's a great overview of the IIS7 HTTP request lifecycle and various settings that affect performance here:

ASP.NET Thread Usage on IIS 7.0 and 6.0

Very specifically though, in dotNet 4 the defaults for maxConcurrentRequestsPerCPU and requestsQueueLimit are set to 5000. E.g. equivalent to: (in aspnet.config):[code]....

Seems to me that on a multi-CPU/core server the requestQueueLimit here will always be invoked well berfore the 'perCPU' limit. Thus, if a max of 5000 requests per CPU is what you actually want then I would expect that the requestQueueLimit needs to be increased to 5000 * CPUCount or just disabled altogether.

Is my interpretation correct? If so can I disable requestQueueLimit? (set it to zero?). The documentation on this setting doesn't appear to address this question (so maybe I'm missing something or misreading?)

** side note from the above article: The requestQueueLimit is poorly named. It actually limits the maximum number of requests that can be serviced by ASP.NET concurrently. This includes both requests that are queued and requests that are executing. If the "Requests Current" performance counter exceeds requestQueueLimit, new incoming requests will be rejected with a 503 status code)

Installation :: Windows Azure & Windows Server 2008 R2 Not Working?

Mar 17, 2011

I just downloaded and installled the Microsoft Windows Azure SDK yesterday for the first time and I am having issues running the application as I all I am getting is 503 errors. I run Windows Server 2008 R2 on my development machine and even tested it on another co-workers 2008 R2 and couldn't even compile the application. He got this error instead "A problem occurred while trying to set the "References" parameter for the IDE's in-process compiler. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."

From within my Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Virtual Windows 7 x86 enviroment, I was able to successfully build and run the Windows Azure SDK and it even showed the base ASP.NET application.So my question is, does the Windows Azure SDK for Visual Studio 2010 w/ Visual Studio 2010 SP 1 installed not work under Microsoft Server 2008 R2?

Installation :: IIS Settings To Handle Multiple Users And Application Pool?

Jun 9, 2010

In our IIS (v 6.0) there is one classic ASP app deployed, which has around 35 concurrent users. Now, a new ASP.NET(3.5) app needs to be deployed on the same server which will have its own 50 concurrent users. In this scenario should we create a Application Pool for this new .net app? What are other recommendations for the IIS settings in future?

Installation :: Debug And Run Classic ASP On IIS7 Using VWD08 Express?

Mar 7, 2010

I'm trying the above - Visual Web Developer 2008 express edition with SQL Server 2005 express using VB code behind on ASP.net 3.5 framework. I need to incorporate and amend some externally supplied classic asp pages, so switched to local IIS7 for compilation/run. I can run these pages, but am unable to amend them and have the changes reflected in what I see. Is this possible with this setup? Is there a configuration setup that I may need? Has anyone successfully done the above before?

Security :: Use Membership Store For User Settings With Windows Authentication

Sep 1, 2010

I am evaluating ASP.NET Membership for an intranet Silverlight app. I want users to be automatically authenticated for my application with their windows logon. Thus I configured Windows Authentication. I would like to store user settings like email-address in using the SqlMembershipProvider and not AD. It seems that storing user settings using the SqlMembershipProvider is not supported with Windows Authentication. Is this really so (using .NET 4)?

If so: What is the rationale behind this? IMHO authentication, user settings and authorization are distinct aspects. User settings could easily be stored (identified by user name) using the SqlMembershipProvider with authentication and password management being supplied by Windows. What is the recommended solution for my scenario?

After installing the app on a 32-bit Windows Server 2008 box the users are now prompted for domain credentials every time they call the site. I went into IIS manager for IIS7 and disabled anonymous authentication and enabled windows authentication. What do I need to do here for the user to not be prompted for the credentials?

Crystal Reports :: XI For VS.NET On IIS7 With Windows Authentication?

Feb 10, 2010

I've got an ASP.NET web app that uses Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (Service Pack 4 + Fix Pack 4.1), and when I use Windows Authentication, the report still passes the application pool identity to the database instead of the user's identity. Every other portionof the program sends the user's identity (checked using SQL profiler). I know I've gotten this working on a client's windows 2008 server before, but I don't have access to that machine to make a comparison with the one I'm working on. I'm pretty sure it's an IIS configuration issue, but I can't seem to find the thing that's causing the Crystal reports to behave differently from the rest of the application.

Enable Double - Hop Delegation In IIS7 Windows 2008

Dec 2, 2010

my ASP.NET web application uses windows authentication on our intranet. I want it to be able to make a server-side http request to another server on the same domain that also requires windows authentication. I've followed the instructions on temporarily impersonating the authenticated user when making the additional request here: [URL] Using code like this:

using System.Security.Principal;
// Obtain the authenticated user's Identity
WindowsIdentity winId = (WindowsIdentity)HttpContext.Current.User.Identity;
WindowsImpersonationContext ctx = null;
try
{
// Start impersonating
ctx = winId.Impersonate();
// Now impersonating
// Access resources using the identity of the authenticated user
var request = WebRequest.Create("http://intranet/secureapp");
request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
var response = request.GetResponse();
using (var streamReader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()))
{
Response.Write(streamReader.ReadToEnd());
}
}
// Prevent exceptions from propagating
catch
{
}
finally
{
// Revert impersonation
if (ctx != null)
ctx.Undo();
}
// Back to running under the default ASP.NET process identity

But, unfortunately, I always get a 401 unauthorized error. Do I need to configure our webserver with active directory to allow it to delegate the autenticated user (could be any one of about 200 users, so don't want to have to do anything 200 times :))? If so, can anyone tell me how to do this?
