My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

http://localhost;3327/DummyAps/Demo.aspx
In Demo.aspx page i have a WebMethod, which i wanted to call. While doing jQuery ajax call i am giving the URL as "/DemoWebMethod", where "DemoWebMethod" is the Webmethod present in Demo.aspx page.
But while calling the WebMethod it is calling the URL
http://localhost;3327/DummyAps/DemoWebMethod but i want to call
http://localhost;3327/DummyAps/Demo.aspx/DemoWebMethod.
I know that changing the URL from "/DemoWebMethod" to "Demo.aspx/DemoWebMethod" will solve the problem but can i do it without writing that (because i have some problem with that).

Has no one ever made an ajax call from a master page or am I just crazy and extremely deprived of sleep?Example:

May 5, 2010I have .aspx page methods with return type of string, which work great. I am using some jQuery ajax, and some .NET Ajax "PageMethods.methodName" syntax from the client side to successfully call these page methods. I need to return xml from a page method.... I would LOVE to be able to return system.Xml.Linq.XElement type from page method. I get a serialization circular reference error when I attempt to return XElement or XDocument. I don't really want to return XML.ToString() to client, and then convert string to xml in javascript. What return page method return type(s) would allow me to retrieve xml with jQuery ajax call? I know json is the alternative, but will not give me what I need this time.

Feb 9, 2010My pages base on master and content pages and in content pages I have Multiviews; inside Multiviews I have RadComboBoxes.Two of my RadComboBoxes are parent and child, like country and city dropdowns. Therefore in code-behind I put some code in the OnSelectedIndexChange event of parent RadComboBox for filling its child; I use a hidden field for country id and sql datasources (stored procedures). Meantime parent and child combo boxes are in an update panel.For doing this job i set the autopostback property of parent combobox to true,but I do not want that autopostback=true because of some focus problems that I coded with jQuery.So I want to convert the OnSelectedIndexChange event in code-behind to a method and call it in jQuery (in change event or something like that of parent combobox). How can I do this?
