Javascript - Jquery.ajax Set With Async=true To Send Data Back To Server Not Working If Page Redirects/reloads.

Sep 3, 2010

I'm trying to save some content whenever a button/hyperlink is clicked using jquery.ajax (Using Asp.net 3.5). The logic is as follows:

Through .bind in jquery I bind my own method(MakeLog) to a button click or hyperlink click. The click events of button/hyperlink contain nothing, I need to use .bind for selective controls.Now we have a button whose click event will fire a method, say MakeLog.Code snippet for MakeLog is as follows:

var xhr = jQuery.ajax({
url: "/Logger.aspx",
data: { content: logContent }, [code]....

This works fine in IE but in Firefox this is not sending the data back as expected.I tried to identify the issue and came across the following: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3522944/jquery-ajax-calls-async-false-vs-async-true .What I understand is that, whenver page is redirecting/reloading due to button click or hyperlink click the async call is not working properly.

VS 2010 - JQuery Datepicker Getting Date Back To Server?

Feb 7, 2011

I've placed a JQuery datepicker control in my aspx Page. It is used as one of a number of items to filter against. In the client to make the datepicker function as per the JQuery Website I have declared:

Code:

<input type="text" id="datepicker"/>

because this is client side, back on the server, I cannot do datepicker.value etc I dont really want to perform a Client AJAX Post method just to get this one value back to the server. picking up the value of the input control. If I set runat="server" against the control, then the datepicker no longer functions as it's no longer clientside.

Disabling Button With JQuery Doesn't Send State Back To Server?

Dec 2, 2010

Before I go the route of using hidden fields or something similar, is there any way to send back to the server changes to the disabled state of an ASP.net Button control? I have a Button that is initially enabled and I disable it via jQuery on the client. Works great. The only problem is when I do a PostBack the server still thinks the Button is enabled and sends back a response that changes it back to enabled. Why doesn't the ViewState send back the current disabled status of the Button? Is there a way to force it to postback the changes? Other ASP.net controls, like the CheckBox, do send back the state changes to the server. Seems odd to me.

Jquery - Passing Back The Client Side Style / Class Change To The Server During Postbacks?

Feb 9, 2010

I'm dynamically binding tables and sub tables using nested listviews. On the client side I have a piece of jQuery that is toggling the visiblity of TRs witin the tables in order to provide a group expand / contract view option.

On postback I'm obviously loosing my class changes that I have applied via jQuery. I'm wondering what the best approach to maintaining these client side class changes is? I've considered creating a hidden input control per table to store the indexes of the visible TRs at the time of expanding them. The intention being to then look for the indexes during postback / rebinding and add the visible classes to each corresponding element.

Is there a better approach or some native method of passing back the client side style / class change to the server during postbacks?

JQuery Calling Webservices With Parameters And Getting Data Back?

Feb 25, 2011

I have a JQuery template, and I want to call a webservice and populate the fields in it. The issues I am having are, I'm not sure how to pass parameters in my $.ajax call (ideally, I want to pass a dictionary so I can pass as many or few parameters as I want). I tried data: { Key : Value } but get a 500 server error saying something about not a valid JSON primative.

Once the webservice is called, how can I get my data back in a JSON string that is compatible with a JQuery template? My webservices usually get a List and my jquery template works with a JSON object.

The problem is basically the format of data between client and server. My webservice call works fine, it's simply a problem of JSON and data. Edit: I have succeeded in calling the webservice with a dictionary, I am now trying to figure out how to get the data back. I'm getting a circular reference error.

JQuery-AJAX Calling Page Method / How To Return Value Back To JQuery

Jan 31, 2011

If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?

Update

My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

Forms Data Controls :: Value Won't Pass Back To Server

Mar 14, 2011

I create a GridView bound to SqlDataSource and use BoundField to bound the field, then in 1 BoundField (let's call it TestField), i set it to Visible = false. Now i add a button to set the value of BoundField TestField. Update the row, the value won't pass back to the server. Then, I try to set Visible = true to BoundField TestField, using the same button and update, the value pass back to the server.This doesn't happen to FormView, even using visible = false. Is this a bug? or ? i am using Visual Studio 2008.

Can HTML Element Into Form-data That Posts Back To The Server

Apr 24, 2010

I am using Javascript to alter the innerHTML attribute of a <td> and I need to get that info back in the form submittal. The <td> corrosponds to an <asp:TableCell> on the server-side, where the Text attribute is set to an initial value.

The user cannot enter the value in this particular field. Instead, its value is set by me (via client-side script) based on actions that the user performs. But this field is useless to me if I can't see its value on the server-side as well.

I'd like to avoid using a read-only textbox, because those are difficult to resize dynamically. Can an <asp:Label> be used as form data? Is there any way to achive this without letting the user manually enter the data? Or is there a simpler way to store a string as a variable somewhere and send it back as form-data?

Forms Data Controls :: Back Button Doesn't Go Back When Canceling / Updating Edits In Gridview?

Mar 31, 2010

I have a gridview bound to a sqldatasource with editing enabled. If I click Edit, then either Cancel or Update, the update or cancel occurs and the Edit button reappears. However, I cannot then click the browser's back button without having the Update and Cancel buttons reappear. A second click of the back button takes me to a state where the Edit button shows again, *then* another back button click will take me to the referring page (the one before the one with the gridview on it.) IOW, it looks like the postbacks are cached. How can I prevent this and have the back button go straight to the referring page?

C# - Using A Timer Post Back, Which Controller To Use That Doesn't Post Back To Server?

Jul 14, 2010

Being new to ASP.NET I have run into trouble building my own Whack-a-mole program. I think my problem comes from using Buttons, which by themselves send post backs to the server, making the software unusable. The looks are in place, making new buttons show up in the grid, in different places by random. However, when a button is pushed - the score doesn't change (which I feel is strange).

Not so strange is that the Button doesn't work since it sends post back to the server - reloading the UpdatePanel. I think I should use a different controller like the CheckBox and style it hard using CSS (which isn't a problem). Is this the correct way to go, or should I make use of JavaScript AJAX instead?

Note to self: This technique shouldn't be used in a public application since it put too much unwanted pressure on the web server.

C# - Can Retrieve Data From Server To Client During An Asynchronous Post - Back Using Ajax Library

Apr 9, 2010

ASP.NET Ajax Library provides some client-side events. For instance:

Sys.Application.add_load(
function(args) {
// handle the end of any asynchronous post-back. Every-time there's
// a server round-trip, this method will be called.
}
);

During the asynchronous post-back I want to retrieve information to the client. This information must be available in some event like the discribed above.

Does the UpdatePanel or the ScriptManager have any server-side way to retrieve data back to client during an asynchronous post-back?

Rating System: JQuery & C#.NET - No Value Passed Through To The Back End

Aug 10, 2010

Just to rule it out, I have tried using the AJAX Rating system to no success, so i've decided to develop my own (as useful as AJAX seems to be for some reason I've never got it working on my system). I'm using a Star Rating Widget I attained from [URL] and from there I've taken a demo (so that it is working) and started editing it accordingly to my needs.

What I am setting out to do convert the radio buttons to stars (done via jQuery and working correctly). The user selects their rating then clicks the the Submit Button. The C# in the Submit OnClick Event then accesses the database, using LINQ to SQL, taking the current 'NumberOfVotes' value and adds one to the number, storing in an int object ready to update. The current 'Rating' Value is then updated too, by adding the Value of the Radio button to the current Rate Value then divided by the number of votes (to create the average rating) 'This article has been rated 4.28/5 by 286 Voters.'

However, the value from the selected radio button isnt being passed through to the back end, as debug has shown, and as you will see in the code below. The jQuery does state a callback which i had initially commented out (due to errors being caused). I have since reassigned it as advised, with a small edit in it to call the btnSubmit control and thus its onclick Event. Im not sure on a resolution to this having tried the only advised suggestion fail. The result of which posts back the message which should appear if no value/star was selected ("You have not selected a rating!"). If I can somehow transfer the jQuery to the ASp:RadioList I would do so, as I think this would be better in terms of calling and processing the data. Being new to it, I have no idea. In addition, apologies if my coding appears scrappy or poor

C#:
Csharp Code:
protected void btnSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
RatingSys rate = RatingSys.Get(1);
int RateID = Convert.ToInt32(hdnRateID.Value);
int CurrentRating = rate.Rating.Value;
int RadioValue = 0;
int NewRating = 0;
int NumberOfVotes = 0;
if (!radio1.Checked || !radio2.Checked || !radio3.Checked || !radio4.Checked || !radio5.Checked)
{
lblMessage.Text = "You have not selected a rating!";
return;

I accept both C# and VB.NET

If you visit this [URL] and then click on the link like the image below you'll see in-line pop-up DIV which displays a busy status of Ajax callback before it displays the information. So, the information is not there yet until you click on the link.
