JQuery :: Saving Date Back To SQL Server
Aug 26, 2010
my web app uses lots of asp:textboxes and I can save this data back to SQL Server easily using a stored procedure.. however my JQuery datepicker uses an input textbox, how do I save the date entered into this control. <input id="datepicker"type="text" /> back to server and can I use the same stored procedure that I use for the other data?

I've placed a JQuery datepicker control in my aspx Page. It is used as one of a number of items to filter against. In the client to make the datepicker function as per the JQuery Website I have declared:
Code:
<input type="text" id="datepicker"/>
because this is client side, back on the server, I cannot do datepicker.value etc I dont really want to perform a Client AJAX Post method just to get this one value back to the server. picking up the value of the input control. If I set runat="server" against the control, then the datepicker no longer functions as it's no longer clientside.

I have a window that has 3 dropdownlist controls and a textbox with a Calendar Extender associated to it.
I have the following on my pageload event so when the Page loads the current Date is put in the date textbox:
[Code]....
I can change the date fine but when I select a value from one of the other dropdownlist controls it puts the date back to today's date...The only place I am setting the Date to the current date is in the pageload event...
how can I get it to keep the date to what I change it to after I select a new value from one of the dropdown lists?

There is a drop down list in the jquery ui modal form with id - drpAction.When the selection is changed I need to execute drpAction_SelectedIndexChanged function in the code behind. When I just try to invoke the function like onSelectedImdexChanged="drpAction_SelectedIndexChanged" ,the function is not fired.

Before I go the route of using hidden fields or something similar, is there any way to send back to the server changes to the disabled state of an ASP.net Button control? I have a Button that is initially enabled and I disable it via jQuery on the client. Works great. The only problem is when I do a PostBack the server still thinks the Button is enabled and sends back a response that changes it back to enabled. Why doesn't the ViewState send back the current disabled status of the Button? Is there a way to force it to postback the changes? Other ASP.net controls, like the CheckBox, do send back the state changes to the server. Seems odd to me.

I've been struggling with this issue for a while. I'm trying to send an object to the client. Once the client updates the object I'd like to post it back to the server and save it in my database. The first part works fine. However, when I send it back all the dates are messed up and start for year 0001. I assume that's because it can't deserialize the date. Howe can I post a json object with a date property and deserialize it into a type on the server with asp.net mvc 3? group is
public class Group
{
public Group();
public string CreatedBy { get; set; }
public DateTime CreatedOn { get; set; }
public string Description { get; set; }
public string Name{ get; set; }
public string Status { get; set; }
public string UpdatedBy { get; set; }
public DateTime UpdatedOn { get; set; }
}
while
public JsonResult updateGroup(Group group)
{
var result = Repository.updateGroup(group);
return Json(result, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
and on the client I got
$.ajax({
url: '../updateGroup',
type: 'POST',
data: JSON.stringify(group),
dataType: 'json',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
success: function(){ success(); }
});

I'm dynamically binding tables and sub tables using nested listviews. On the client side I have a piece of jQuery that is toggling the visiblity of TRs witin the tables in order to provide a group expand / contract view option.
On postback I'm obviously loosing my class changes that I have applied via jQuery. I'm wondering what the best approach to maintaining these client side class changes is? I've considered creating a hidden input control per table to store the indexes of the visible TRs at the time of expanding them. The intention being to then look for the indexes during postback / rebinding and add the visible classes to each corresponding element.
Is there a better approach or some native method of passing back the client side style / class change to the server during postbacks?

I'm trying to save some content whenever a button/hyperlink is clicked using jquery.ajax (Using Asp.net 3.5). The logic is as follows:
Through .bind in jquery I bind my own method(MakeLog) to a button click or hyperlink click. The click events of button/hyperlink contain nothing, I need to use .bind for selective controls.Now we have a button whose click event will fire a method, say MakeLog.Code snippet for MakeLog is as follows:
var xhr = jQuery.ajax({
url: "/Logger.aspx",
data: { content: logContent }, [code]....
This works fine in IE but in Firefox this is not sending the data back as expected.I tried to identify the issue and came across the following: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3522944/jquery-ajax-calls-async-false-vs-async-true .What I understand is that, whenver page is redirecting/reloading due to button click or hyperlink click the async call is not working properly.

By using the following code, i save the dateandtime to my MSSQL DB .
Code:
Dim dateTimeToConvert As New DateTime(Now.Year, Now.Month, Now.Day, Now.Hour, Now.Minute, Now.Second, Now.Minute, DateTimeKind.Utc)
Dim easternTime As DateTime = TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime(dateTimeToConvert, easternZone)
Dim nowtime As DateTime = easternTime.ToUniversalTime
TIMESTAMPSqlDataSource1.InsertParameters("datee").DefaultValue = nowtime
TIMESTAMPSqlDataSource1.insert()
In the DB it saves the time as 21:.... but when I view the time using a gridview it shows 1:... (the correct time I want to show is the 1:... )
HTML Code:
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="ID" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1">
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="ID" HeaderText="ID" InsertVisible="False" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="ID" />
[Code] ....

If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?
Update
My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

I have some textboxes (in an UpdatePanel in a ModalPopup in a User Control) that look like this:
<asp:TextBox ID="exampleTextBox" runat="server" MaxLength="10"
CssClass="datepicker" ReadOnly=true
Text='<%# Bind("ExampleDateField") %>' Width="77px">
</asp:TextBox>
I also have some jQuery (imported from file on the Master page) that hooks up the jQuery DatePickers like so:
function pageLoad() {
$(".datepicker").unbind();
$(".datepicker").datepicker({
changeMonth: true,
changeYear: true,
showOtherMonths: true,
selectOtherMonths: true,
beforeShowDay: $.datepicker.noWeekends,
showOn: 'button',
buttonImage: '../Resources/Images/Calendar_scheduleHS.gif',
buttonImageOnly: true,
buttonText: 'Select a Date'
});
}
The DatePickers appear correctly, even after a postback. The problem is that the value of the textboxes is not changed when a postback occurs. This is very odd since the textbox shows the selected date in the browser. However, the value of the textbox is still the date that the textbox originally had, not the date selected from the datepicker.

I have this date value fetch from a Controller but when I use jQuery Datepicker with validation, the output is not good.The validation is to check if the value is less than or greater than today's date. JQuery Datepicker works well.If I select a date two days from now using datepicker, the validation error won't occur. [:(]
ViewData("DateToday") = Date.Now.ToShortDateString()
