Forms Data Controls :: Value Won't Pass Back To Server
Mar 14, 2011
I create a GridView bound to SqlDataSource and use BoundField to bound the field, then in 1 BoundField (let's call it TestField), i set it to Visible = false. Now i add a button to set the value of BoundField TestField. Update the row, the value won't pass back to the server. Then, I try to set Visible = true to BoundField TestField, using the same button and update, the value pass back to the server.This doesn't happen to FormView, even using visible = false. Is this a bug? or ? i am using Visual Studio 2008.
I need to pass the data from GridView1 to a DataTable, and then pass the DataTable to GridView2 and preview it. I have BoundFields and ImageFields in the GridViews. I think I am doing something wrong but I can't figure out how to do it. I know I have to iterate through the GridView.Rows, but I don't know how to pass it to the DataTable.
I'd like to get the message number and severity level information from SQL Server upon execution of an erroneous query.
For example, when a user attempts to delete a row being referenced by another record, and the cascade relationship is "no action", I'd like the application to be able to check for error message 547 ("The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint...") and return a user friendly and localized message to the user.When running such a query directly on SQL Server, the following message is printed:
Msg 547, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 <Error message...>
In an Asp.Net app is this information available in an event handler parameter or elsewhere? Also, I don't suppose anyone knows where I can find a definitive reference of SQL Server message numbers?
This may seem simple to a seasoned coder, but I'm all wet-eared and new to MVC, and trying to wrap my head around it is driving me nuts. I have completed the Nerd Dinner and MVC Music Store tutorials, and seem to be grasping the basics... Well, sort of... It just seems that every new idea I have requires hours of searching with Google.
As it stands at the moment, I have a static DateTime field that is populated by using DateTime.Now. What I need to implement is a master TextBox (JQueryUI DatePicker) at the top of the View that will enable the user to overwrite said DateTime.Now if required.
Here is a hypothetical situation:
Controller
[Code]....
Site.Master
[Code]....
View
[Code]....
I thought of using a variable to override the default date if the user selects a master date, but can't figure out how to implement it.
I can get it to work if I use a static string, like so:
[Code]....
Is there any way to pass the value of the master datepicker (txtDateTime) from the View back to the Controller? I've heard mention of TempData, but can't seem to find a similar scenario.
I'm sure I'm just missing something really obvious, so if anyone could explain it to me really s-l-o-w-l-y, that would be cool.
I'm praying that this isn't another of those situations where "MVC doesn't work that way" or "It needs more cowbell", 'cause then I'll pack it all in and go play WoW D:
I have a gridview bound to a sqldatasource with editing enabled. If I click Edit, then either Cancel or Update, the update or cancel occurs and the Edit button reappears. However, I cannot then click the browser's back button without having the Update and Cancel buttons reappear. A second click of the back button takes me to a state where the Edit button shows again, *then* another back button click will take me to the referring page (the one before the one with the gridview on it.) IOW, it looks like the postbacks are cached. How can I prevent this and have the back button go straight to the referring page?
So it works fine i can hover on gridview rows. Now I need to add OnClick event. When Row is clicked I need to pass value from SQL server table to textbox. How can I Add something like onrowclickevent? where I can use clicked row arguments?
I Had two webforms. source.aspx & Target.aspxSuorce.aspx has 2 textboxes for input data and two submit buttons. am using cross page technique to transfer data from one webform to other.ource Page:On buton click event :
Server.Transfer("TargetHome.aspx"); = null) { TextBox TextBox1 = PreviousPage.FindControl("TextBox1") as TextBox; if (TextBox1 != null) [code]...
Got a user control that has a Listbox on it and I want to be able to pass the selected value back to the main page.
User Control code:[Code]....
Main page that has the user control: [Code]....
This is the error I get back and I've tried everything I know, but cannot sort it. Probably something stupid but I just cannot see it.

I am using Fabric.Js ... its returning XML file .. i need to save this file. after googling i found that we can save XML files using Activex Control but it will not work other than IE. So i am trying to pass that XML file to server side.. I tried to assign xml data to var and use alert for display its displying all xml File data.. but unable save that file. is it possible to save that xml file to disk or pass that to sever side so that i can save .
I tried both, loading the usercontrol when needed and I also tried adding it directly into the aspx.
Nothing worked. With the second one (what's meant to be the easiest option) I tried with delegates and events (but can't access de usercontrol event from page) and tried with properties (I can access properties but they're always empty)
im just testing out signalr and i am having too much fun and got a little bit far from my usual skill now my question is can i pass a list to the client here is my code actually i learned this from you mr aspsinnipets
Public Sub Send(message As String, id As String) Dim tomessage = OnlineUser.userObj.Where(Function(users) users.userId = id).[Select](Function(users) users.connectionId).SingleOrDefault() Dim customers As New List(Of locationslist) customers.Add(New locationslist) customers((customers.Count - 1)).CITE_NR = message
Works great to generate the view, but when I post, I have an ActionResult defined:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Next(MPKwithMVC.Models.SmartFormViewModel model) { .. }
Which I would imagine get hit when my next button is clicked (it works if I change the argument to a FormsCollection). I instead get a message saying "No parameterless constructor defined for this object".
My SmartFormsViewModel is:
[Serializable] public class SmartFormViewModel { public List<Question> Questions { get; set; } public List<Answer> Answers { get; set; }
Works great to generate the view, but when I post, I have an ActionResult defined:
[Code]....
Which I would imagine get hit when my next button is clicked (it works if I change the argument to a FormsCollection). I instead get a message saying "No parameterless constructor defined for this object".
When the user clicks the submit button on a form I want to return a success / failure message to the user and i'm wondering what the best way to send the message back to the user is.
For example on a login form if the user enters an incorrect password i'd want the view to reload with a message telling them that login failed. Or on an update form the original view they had would show up with a message saying update was successful.
My idea is to have a few partial views or HTML helpers that look for a ViewBag property like "ErrorMessage" or "SuccessMessage" and conditionally show themselves when these properties have a value. These components could be added to the _Layout or manually each form where they are required.
Edit
I have since found out that the ValidationSummary method takes a parameter of whether to exclude property errors which means you can use it to show when login / registration has failed. But there seems to be a bug where the validation summary is still generated even if there are no errors.
From the web service I want to check if the insert into the database was successfull, return a variable with an ID and pass this ID to a function. In the object I have the ID so I could have
success: function (msg) {deleteCustomer(ID);}
But this only checks if the data was passed to my method in the web service? I have followed this example http://encosia.com/2009/04/07/using-complex-types-to-make-calling-services-less-complex/ and in the class Person I get a message back from the database server telling me if the insert was successfull or not so like
if (successfull) { return ID; }
is there a way to get this ID back to the web form and use this in a variable?
From my main window I am clicking on a button to show a popup window with a gridview control in it. I want to click on a row of the gridview and pass that date back to the main browser and have the gridview load data based on that value with the sqldatasource control. Is there any way to pass a value back and make it postback?
I was very kindly given some code to do drag and drop which works well. I'm now having a problem posting the data back on a button click event. To recap the JQuery looks like this:
i am loading a usercontrols dymaically, i need to create a event listener so any controls that i load will pass back a int id to my aspx page. what is the best way to create a dynamic listener?
Control FeaturedProductUserControl = LoadControl("FeaturedProduct.ascx"); Controls.Add(FeaturedProductUserControl); PlaceHolderLeftMenu.Controls.Add(FeaturedProductUserControl);
I have developed an asp.net application ... I have a textbox where user will enter is name ... I need to check if the name is already exist in the database table column when ever user enter their name with out post back . If user exist mean it should show a msg user already exist .....
i have a problem that is, I am calling data form database in agrid view and taht gridview contain both bounded and unbouded field now i wat to send this grid view data back to a datatable is it possible if yes then how?
I have a gridview that does a select statement against a sql database, there is not editing, inserting or deleting just the select statement. What I want to do is have the data in the gridview refresh upon either hitting the back button or the forward button.
If the back button is pressed it should give me yesterdays data from the table. If I hit the forward button it should give me tomorrows data, at the same time i want the forward button to be limited to going forward only 5 days from todays date.
I figure that I have to do this in a Updatepanel however I am unsure as to how to do this.
I am using Javascript to alter the innerHTML attribute of a <td> and I need to get that info back in the form submittal. The <td> corrosponds to an <asp:TableCell> on the server-side, where the Text attribute is set to an initial value.
The user cannot enter the value in this particular field. Instead, its value is set by me (via client-side script) based on actions that the user performs. But this field is useless to me if I can't see its value on the server-side as well.
I'd like to avoid using a read-only textbox, because those are difficult to resize dynamically. Can an <asp:Label> be used as form data? Is there any way to achive this without letting the user manually enter the data? Or is there a simpler way to store a string as a variable somewhere and send it back as form-data?
I have two tables. 1st contain topic and its id. 2nd contain topic name,its category and category list.
I want to display using asp .net datalist and vb script like the following
topic 1 Category 1 categorylist 1 of category 1 categorylist 2 of category 1 Category 2 categorylist 1 of category 2 categorylist 2 of category 2 topic 2 Category 1 categorylist 1 of category 1 categorylist 2 of category 1 Category 2 categorylist 1 of category 2 categorylist 2 of category 2
Also, i have tried displaying only Category 1, 2 .. which are Link button. When I click these button it shows category list. So here I am facing aproblem that everytime i click these buttons it refreshes my page which is very annoying.
