JavaScript - Dynamically Change A Value On A Page Without Actually Refreshing It?
Apr 1, 2011
I have a label, let's call it LblA. I have a SqlDataSource, let's call it sds. Now, I have selected out and managed to get specific values using the select function. I want to set LblA's text to the value selected out of sds. I need this to occur every 5 (or as many as I specify really) seconds. I orignally used a timer object, however, for any of you who have used the timer object before, it likes to refresh the page, this makes it very hard to navigate off of the page; not only that, it's sloppy. Does anybody know a way to easilly update LblA's text from sds without refreshing the actual page.
I've read around and came to the conclusion that I need to use ajax, err... jQuery. However, I really don't know anything about the two except that they are both Javascript libraries?
I have a page that loads a usercontrol dynamically. Depended on the user's actions, this control may be unloaded in Page_PreRender and a different control may be loaded instead. I am attempting to use the solution outlined by Mark DotNet Evans in this post: http://forums.asp.net/p/1491790/3814320.aspx
This all works great, except if the user clicks the refresh button in the browser just after the change of usercontrol. Then, I get an error
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. ...
I assume the error is caused by the browser re-posting the request with the old viewstate that matched the control tree when the page was loaded, but no longer does. How can I prevent getting an error when the user reloads the page?
I have a requirement where a user logs on to a server where exists a website. The user bring up the site on a browser on that server and loads a power point presentation slide. At that time, users using their laptop clicks on the link to that site and sees that particular PPT slide loaded on the server. Then the operator/user on the server clicks on the second slide and the laptop would now see the second slide. Is this possible to do? If yes, then what technology to use? DHTML? or something else.
I am trying to display a new panel after the user clicks an add button, for some reason this is not working (it refreshes the page as well, even though my button has a return true) I have tried different ways, but nothing seems to work that well.
I want to make the results of an ASP.NET form POST "bookmarkable", and I'm thinking of using query parameters to accomplish this. The idea is that a user will visit http://domath.com and they will type in a math problem, and view the results. The query and results are visible at http://domath.com?ProblemID={some guid here}The only part I don't really know is how do I change the target of the form URL since I'm using a POST instead of a GET..Here are the options I came up with, and I'm not sure what is practicalSubmit form as usual, server redirects to a URL with the new parameters attached Use a webservice or callback to get new URL. Javascript then updates form target
how can i use the refreshing a part of the web-page without all the web-page am using c#.net, it will be great if there is an example to how you can do that also i need to know how can i use the iframe to do that, or a good way to do that
You must have noticed one link in yahoo.com, msn.com or other popular websites named "Page Options". When you click this link you get a popup displaying different small several color icons. After clicking one of these icons your page theme changes without entire page refresh. Now you are able to see the same page with different look and feel.
How does it happen and what it takes to do it? Is this possible in ASP.NET? If yes, how to do it?
I am thinking that it would be better to use multipe CSS files and change them within the master page dynamically than it would be to use multiple master pages (basically one master page for each page, which defeats the purpose of the master page).
However, I do not know how to make a change to the master page before a standard apsx page that is derived from it is loaded.
I would like to change the link that has been clicked, to class="active". I would like to add a class to the div if the page above is clicked too.
If (Len(Request.QueryString("pageid")) <> 0 and Request.QueryString("pageid") = 4) Then menu & Request.QueryString("pageid") & .Attributes.Add("class", "active") link & Request.QueryString("pageid") & .Attributes.Add("class", "activelink") end if
I have a webpage that I'd like to display a different shortcut icon depending on whatever the status is of the app. I have the page pin'd in Firefox so I can always see the icon. How to accomplish this?

In one of my webpage, I have a parent window where i have a datalist with 10 rows of images. when i click any image a pop up window(child window) opens.
The child window has a form to be filled by user. Once user fills this form, he will press the save button. Once the save button is clicked, the child window should be closed and the datalist(in the update panel) in the parent window should be refreshed.
This is how I am trying to achieve this. On click of the save button a javascript function is being called of the parent window like this: window.opener.refreshDataList();
in the refreshDataList() function I have written the following code:
This works like a charm in Internet Explorer. However in Mozilla and Chrome it doesnt work. While testing this I added an alert statement ind the refreshDataList() function like this..

I am using a dropdown, a devexpress grid view and a button on my page.
My gropdown contains the months in the format MM/YYYY, and on dropdown's selection change the data binds in the grid view.
the functionality of button is to go on previous page as same as back button of browser.
Now, my prob is that if i select any month and then select another month, the data changes. but now when i click on back button having onclick ="history.go(-1)", changes the data on the grid view but the month in the dropdown remains the same.
For example:
Suppose, first i have month selected as 02/2010. At this time the data in grid view is for exapmle 01234
now when i select month 03/2010 the data in grid changes to 56789
now when i click on back button, then data in grid changes to 01234 but the month in dropdown remains to 03/2010.
I have an updatepanel on my master page that just updates the database every 30 seconds, what is happening is that everytime it is fired, it will refresh everything on the page_load of the content page that are not under ispostback = false. to disable such a thing just for this specific updatepanel?
i have four web pages like(home, aboutus, contactus, loginform) and 1 masterpageby using link button i am navigating 2 this pages... while navigating the total page is refreshing... i dont want like thtonly content place holder should change.... without refreshing the page....
I am having an issue with content page refresh, when I change something in master page. My scenario is, I have a login button present in master page, on click of which am loading a modal popup with login controls. Once the credentials are valid, i am hiding the modal popup and stroing the user authentication result in a Session object. In content page's page load event, I am checking for this session object, for showing/hiding some of the controls based on the user logged in.The problem is, after login, the content page is not getting reloaded and proper controls are not shown to the user. To make the content page refresh programmatically, i added an UpdatePanel in content page and refreshed it after login button click event in master page. But still content page is not getting refreshed.
I am a beginner to web development and ASP.NET. I am creating a web application (not public, so SEO, bookmarking etc. is of no concern) with the typical layout of header on top, Navigation on the left, content on the right. I want the content to update without the whole page reloading when selecting something on the navigation bar. What is the typical way to implement this? MasterPage with ContentPages and using an UpdatePanel (tried this, but does not seem to work, I guess because the URL is different for each content page)? Using Frames? Using an iFrame for the content part? UserControls for the content part
I have a command line C# server and an ASP.NET client, they both communicate via .NET Remoting. The server is sending the client still images grabbed from a webcam at say 2 frames a second. I can pass the images down to the client via a remote method call and the image ends up in this client method:
public void Update(System.Drawing.Image currentFrame) { // I need to display the currentFrame on my page. }
How do i display the image on the a page without saving the image to the hard disc? If it was a winForms app i could pass currentFrame to a picturebox ie. picturebox.Image = currentFrame. The above Update method gets fired at least 2 times a second. If the client was a winForms app i could simply put picturebox.Image = currentFrame and the current frame on the screen would automatically get updated. How do i achieve the same effect with ASP.NET? Will the whole page need to be reloaded etc?
For eg..in Stackoverflow site, after giving answer, if we are refreshing the page, it displays the answer with orange color and turns to white beautifully?
How we have to do this ? Can it is possible in asp.net - C# ?
