Keeping .NET Session / Forms Authentication Alive In Silverlight Application?
Sep 13, 2010
I have a web app containing a silverlight application. How do I keep the ASP.NET session / Forms Authentication alive when the user is using the silverlight application?
I was wondering wich's the best way to "keep alive" the InputStream of the FileUpload Control.I would give you one example. Let's assume you have the FileUpload control in one WebForm, and you want process it in the next WebForm (after Response.Redirect).It would be great (unless for the memory) to have something similar to:
Session["PostedFile"] = this.FileUpload.PostedFile.InputStream. Unfortunately, this results in: System.ObjectDisposedException
This is quite straight forward. I'm calling a web-service (.asmx, with session enabled) from a c# application. I want each call to be with the same session key as the previous one (as opposed to creating a new session key each time).
I gather customer information on a asp.net page (.net 2.0) then I want to open a new page / window which will be passed all the payment details and then connect to our payment service provide to process the payment. Once done the payment window is then close and the original calling window is updated with the result of the payment.
I can do all of the above, except I don't know how to go about opening a 2nd IE window leaving the calling windows on the screen whilst passing parameters and retrieving the result.
My best guess would be:-
Stuff all the parameters into session state var's
Open a new windows / page pickup the session state var's
I have used session in my application for admin panel. It is redirecting if i not use 1 or 2 minutes. I need to stay session until I click logout button.
I have a Authorizeclient.aspx.cs page where I set my session value.Authorizeclient.aspx is a blank page. HttpContext.Current.Session["nodeID"]="0". This session value changes from 0 or non zero which depends on the value returned by Database. If no value is returned I assign HttpContext.Current.Session["nodeID"]="0" as the default state else I assign HttpContext.Current.Session["nodeID"]=resolve(nodeID).ToString()
Till this part it works fine as expected. However, I have a requirement that I need to read the nodeID from Session in other application on the same server. I mean this application too is part of the root project where I initially created the Session and set it. The strange thing is the Session["nodeID"] in application gets null "SOMETIMES" Not always. I am trying to read the Session in Page_Load. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it gets null. Moreover the session object do not die and I can see other keys like Session["Themes"] etc there. The session is in InProc mode and have 20 minutes timeout time.
I'm building an app which is subscription based, users can login to a website an use it as they. I would also like them to have the option to work with it outside of the browser and even offline. The app itself is not dependent on online resources, only the authentication is done via forms authentication. What would be the best way for me to make offline authentication possible?
I'm developing a web app for which the client wants us to query their data as little as possible. The data will be coming from a Microsoft CRM instance.
So we've agreed that data will only be queried as and when it is needed, therefore if a web user wants to see a list of contacts (for example) that list is fetched into a local DataTable. Then if a new contact is created on the website the new contact is sent to CRM and added to the local DataTable at the same time. Likewise for edits.
If the user then looks at their contacts again the data will just come from the local DataTable.
I have a simple ASP.NET 3.5 app in which I want to use SL 3.0 cntrols, how can I do that without starting out with a fresh SL enabled ASP.NET application template?
I need to keep a global variable throughout the whole time the user is at my site, but do I use Application or a static class? The string variable should store a region name and my site makes a few changes depending on which region that has been set.
I read that Application was mainly for classic ASP, but I also read that a static class cannot be instantiated at runtime (e.g. when the user has logged in).
So, have I got something wrong here and which solution do I use?
there is already an asp.net web site developed, now due to certain requirements i want to use silverlight enabled pages in my project(for its flexible designing purpose).
I have a Silverlight application hosted inside an asp.net website. In my silverlight applicaiton, if I select a theme. Then, theme changes will gets fired. I want to get notified in asp.net web page, when the theme changed event is fired inside the silverlight application. Note: Also, I don't want to use a data base to maintain the state of the application.
I have a hosted Silverlight 4 application. My task is to notify a Silverlight user when his ASP.NET session is about to expire with a simple dialog box, saying something like "Your session is about to expire, would you like to reset the session?" with two buttons [Yes], and [No]. When the user clicks [Yes] I would like to update the ASP.NET session, otherwise I would just let it expire. What is the best methodology to use here?I've taken a look at different forums, and most people just simply poll the server every-so-often from the page hosting the Silverlight application. This wouldn't do for me. I thought of creating a singleton DispatcherTimer that would start on Silverlight application startup, would fetch Session.Timeout value from the server using WCF and would run for (Session.Timeout - some delta) minutes. When the timer expires it would pop the notification window. Moreover, since this notification window should only pop after a period of inactivity, I'd like to reset this timer every time a WCF call is performed (which essentially defines activity).P.S. I'm also planning on doing something similar for Forms timeout.
We have an application clusteredbrain.com designed on Silverlight 2.0 connected with OLAP data cubes
Onn IE it works fine but on FireFox or Chrome it doesnot load giving following error
This is the error Message Given by Firefox whwn it tries to call a WCF Webservice.
"Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application An exception occurred during the operation, making the result invalid. Check InnerException for exception details. at System.ComponentModel.AsyncCompletedEventArgs.RaiseExceptionIfNecessary() at OlapSilverlightCharts.ServiceReference2.GetChartDataCompletedEventArgs.get_Result() at OlapSilverlightCharts.MainPage1.webService_GetChartDataCompleted(Object sender, GetChartDataCompletedEventArgs e) at OlapSilverlightCharts.ServiceReference2.Service1Client.OnGetChartDataCompleted(Object state)"
We have ClienAccesspolicy and crossdomain policy in place.
Issue in UI form:1. when user press shift+tab key in numeric field then it's not working means cursor not moving.2. when user press shift+tab key in field wich is allowing any characters then it's working.
I am trying to "marry" them up together. so lets say if session timeout is 2 minutes and same with forms authentication.
I want the ability to redirect the user to a page. (no, not using meta tags or anything to refresh the page) on any navigation after the time out.
Sure, create a control and drop it in the master page. All good
but there doesnt seem to be a way to determine if a user was logged in and if so... do what I need to do (i.e Signout and redirect) but it should not impact users who have not logged in.
The only time objects are being added to the session is when the User has logged in. infact the only object in session is a Custom User object.
I have to create application which should work in web, mobile and PDA. I am using Silverlight application. Any one has idea that which type of problem can I face in Mobile and PDA? It is working fine in web. I am also using some third party control like Telerik control.
