Ajax - How To Host IGoogle Widgets In Application

Jul 15, 2010

I am designing a dashboard for my own application to serve as a control panel for the end user. I am thinking about using the Dropthings framework or DynamicDashboards which cover all of my internal widgets requirements.

But besides including widgets developed internally by me, I would like for the user to be able to include iGoogle widgets as well.

Is this possible?

What needs to be done in order to host an iGoogle widget?

Security :: Customize Windows Authentication For Web Application?

Sep 8, 2010

I am using Windows Integrated Authentication with impersonation for all my web applications (on IIS 7 and 7.5), and everything is perfect.

Now I would like to enhance the authentication procedures bypassing the login prompt from IIS, and supplying a custom page to collect the Username + Password inputs from Users, but still mantaining the Windows Authentication support (I rely on the WindowsPrincipal in my application for many core activities).

I just would like to replace the IIS popup with my custom authentication page.

First of all I have tried to mix the WIA with Forms Authentication, but - even if I succeed in authenticating users against the Active Directory - the result is not what I was looking for, because I want to mantain Windows Authentication and not migrating the mechanism to Forms Authentication (even if implemented with the AD provider).

The first step I am trying is to use the "LogonUser" function to create the correct WindowsPrincipal and then the "Impersonate" method, but after this step I have no idea about how to persist the authentication data andor to pass the User information to the Windows Authentication. As a result, when I execute the first redirection to another page the information about the user manually logged are lost.

JavaScript In Widgets - Handle?

Dec 9, 2010

I'm using ASP.NET to develop a webapplication. In this application I'm using a dashboard. And now I try to develop my own widget for this dashbord. But I don't understand how to do the javascript part. In the widget I want to use the OpenLayers JavaScript map. It's created like this

<script>
var map = OpenLayers.Map("mapDiv");
</script>
<div id="mapDiv" />

Like this it works fine if I only want to use one widget at the same time. But if want to use it multiple times in the same dashboard, I get a lot of problem. I have two divs with the same id and two variables with the name map. So the div id is no problem, I generate it dynamically with ASP.NET. But how do I handle the JavaScript part, so that I don't overwrite my "map" variable?

MVC :: Is It Possible To Create Kind Of Widgets That Are Pluggable In MVC

Feb 7, 2010

is it possible to create kind of widgets that are pluggable in ASP.NET MVC? I'd like to give my users the option to upload and attach a widget that I provide (ie. zip format). Recently I thought about deploying Areas in different project assemblies. Is it still possible with MVC RC2 (later RTM) and is there an option to dynamically attach that areas (say from a admin panel)?

Second question, how would you guys create a dynamic layout where admins could select widgets to display, arrange them, disable, move them etc.? I mean a flexible layout that can be changed via the admin panel without having to touch the code. Here I thought about defining and storing layout widgets paths in a db. Later I could associate these widgets with routes (in db). For each request (controller, action) I would fetch the layout among with associated widgets and output them recursively. Probably I could user RenderAction and PartialViews for that.s my direction correct or should I focus on some other technique?

C# - Save State Of Widgets In MVC Using JQuery And Json

Sep 1, 2010

I am using ASP.NET MVC in C#

I have a page where the user can move different Widgets around the page, and I now need a method to save the state of the widgets. I am using jQuery in the HTML page, and the jQuery posts the new page layout using JSON. I am unsure how to read the JSON in the controller.

The code I'm using is based on this example here - [URL], but the code for saving the result is in PHP.

[Code]....

I am willing to consider alternative ways to do this, as I may not have chosen the best way to do this.

IE Security Warning With Widgets / Ensure This Message Doesn't Come Up As It Could Be Off Putting For Users?

Apr 19, 2010

I'm creating an ASP.NET application which uses Facebook Connect and fbml tags. It also uses the LinkedIn widget. When I run this app in any browser, there are no warnings and everything works. However, in IE, a message like this comes up:

Security Warning:
The current webpage is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this?

Current site:http://www.facebook.com
Trusted site:http://localhost

(same for LinkedIn.com). I know how to fix this from a client perspective and to stop the security warning showing up. However, is it possible to ensure this message doesn't come up as it could be off putting for users who don't know how to suppress this warning? I haven't tried uploading it to my webhost, so not sure if this message will appear for everyone in production. However, I always get it on my local machine.

(None of my pages use SSL, so I don't think that's the issue. I tried using FB's HTTPS urls but that didn't make a difference).

Adding TreeNodes Within Web Application?

Jun 26, 2010

This thread is basically a continuation from my last post. I have a website that uses a TreeView Control. Each TreeNode represents a virtual directory and I wish for the user to be able to create a new Node/Virtual Directory. This site is for family photos. Each family member has their own node with a Child Node called "Albums". Within this "Albums" node, a family member can have as many Nodes/Virtual Directory as they want with each Node/Virtual Directory containing images.Each Virtual Directory path is stored in a Database. So essentially, I'm trying to create my own photo album. My question is....how do I allow a user to create a new Node/Virtual Directory (they don't know that a VD is being created...only a Node).

Adding C# Web Form To VB Web Application

Feb 18, 2011

Is there any way to add a C# Web Form to an ASP.NET 4.0 Web Application that is written in VB.NET? I had an ASP.NET 2.0 WEB SITE that I recently converted to an ASP.NET 4.0 WEB APPLICATION. It was mostly written in VB.NET with a couple pages that had C# code behinds. I've read the following article (the end section about mulitple languages): [URL]

1) When I converted my site to an application, it didn't seem to add an APP_CODE folder at all
2) I'm not looking to just write a simple class, I actually want to be able to add a WEB FORM with a C# code behind

When I try to add a new item and I select which type of item I want to add, I am only given to option to add a VISUAL BASIC web form. I have a workaround right now. If I need a new web form with a C# code behind, I take one of my old C# web forms and just copy and paste the form and C# code behind into the project and then rename it and change the class name as well. Then i make my changes and do what I need to do. It seems to work, but I was just wondering if there was an easier way.

You might wonder why want to put C# forms in my VB app. I wrote my app in VB (not well versed in C# but I can read it). I have a programmer working for me that is much more efficient with C#. I don't really have the budget to spend weeks/months getting her up to speed with VB

Adding MVC Content To An Existing Application?

Jan 31, 2011

We have a web application written in ASP.NET for .NET 3.5, using standard web forms.

Going forward we want to start building new features, and over time migrate existing features, in ASP.NET MVC.

Is such a thing doable? Can we add the necessary files to an ASP.NET web application and thus "upgrade" it to be compatible enough with MVC so that we can start adding routes, controllers, views, etc.?

The old site is using a frameset containing a top header, a left menu, and a main content. What I envisioned was to create a new masterpage for all the existing pages, integrating all of those things into each page instead, and then start adding new pages using views instead.

I understand that unless we upgrade to .NET 4 we cannot use MVC 3, so the way I see it we have the following options:

Build a new website, somehow auto logon the new site with the same credentials when logging in on the main site, and link between the sites. I see tons of problems with this solution. Integrate ASP.NET MVC 2 into the existing software, adding the necessary files, and starting to add new content in MVC style, only fixing critical bugs in the old files, and over time migrate them over to MVC. Upgrade to .NET 4 and integrate ASP.NET MVC 3, pretty much the rest the same as option 2. Wait until we can schedule a full rewrite, likely to not happen in any foreseeable future. Don't do it, keep web forms.

Note that a full rewrite is out of scope at the moment, so some transitional period is the only option we can do right now.

Option 2 and 3 are the ones we want, the rest are just for completeness.
