MVC :: Images In Content Directory / Internal Visual Studio Web Server Work Well But Not On Other IIS Server?
Nov 11, 2010
sorry for buther I'm a newbie in ASP.NEt MVC and I have some issue deploying my application on IIS, that use a logo image within my main master page declared as
<img src="../../Content/logo.bmp" alt="logo" />
When I use the internal visual studio web server work well but not on my other IIS Server.
What's the mean of ../../Content ? Is this directory deployed with particular rules?
Under IIS I would have to do a special configuration to support PHP. I have also found a number of references related to previous versions of VS which state that the development server would not, hence my question. Will the development server run the following PHP script server side in the header? Are there special configuration requirements?
A number of developers trying to create Silverlight apps intergrating Facebook have ran into the same wall with the MS Facebook SDK, and are struggling to determine the cause. I am assuming the script file contains the integration functions.
I have just installed IIS manager version 6.1 build 7600 and visual studio 2010 (latest additions of both).
I have followed all the instructions and given the correct permisions ect for IIS to work with my directory. I have a helloworld website that has worked via the localhost server many times, but almost hourly something happens to the settings in IIS and it starts throwing errors.
The current error copied below. Basically I am wondering a few things...
1. Why does my IIS constantly do something so that it works one minute and then it wont the next (this is with an identical helloworld.htm file so I know it is not something I am doing with the file that is messing it up).
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter "C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30128aspnet_filter.dll" failed Module IIS Web Core [code]......
I'm a .NET specialist working with a PHP/Flash programmer to deliver an app via IIS. After jumping through 17 hoops of fire and defeating a gargoyle in a gruesome battle to the death, I managed to get my IIS 7.5 server to cooperate with PHP, and now if you browse to my public web site, you can see the Flash objects happily doing their behind-the-scenes stuff with PHP, whatever that may be.
But... when I'm debugging my app using the VS Development Server, that still apparently doesn't know how to cope with PHP: I'm getting the same HTTP 405 (Method Not Allowed) errors that I was getting on IIS before aforementioned gargoyle breathed its last ("The HTTP verb POST used to access path '/php/blah.php' is not allowed.").
So, what do you have to do to get the VS Dev Server to play nice with PHP?
I am just learning application development and my question is so I can demo a project from an Internship for a class at school. I am planning on using Visual Studio 2010 in debug mode for the presentation.
Here it goes:
I created a database utilizing SQL server 2005. I want to take the .mdf file from SQL Server and place it in the App data directory of my application. I am hoping that I do not need to rebuild any datasets that I am currently utilizing. I am utilizing several stored procedures that are in the database, these stored procedure are access utilizing my datasets.
I was able to place the file in the application but I get an exception whenever I try to utilize a stored procedure that was created in the database.
Here is the error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I verified all of my datasets utilize the following connection:
I have a TFS 2008 running on a windows 2003 workgroup, I need the TFS to access (or register) the users in the active directory, so when developers log in to the network they can also have access to TFS.
I have been trying to access the AD from the TFS but I get the error that there is no a trust relationship, I joined the TFS to the domain, I am able to see the users in the AD from TFS but when I want to add them to TFS I receive that error message.
I have been looking for a tutorial on how to set up TFS with an AD environment but I am not able to find anything fully explained.
Is there anything special to do with Windows 2008 R2 Server and Visual Studio 2010 to get Oracle quereis to work? I have the same DB Connnection.string I have used before and it works. I am at a loss here.
i have encountered a problem on how to load the database images to be display in the Image content in the web pages. I am currently using an Access database with a table "Images" and there are 4 columns in it. "ImageID", "ImageDescription","ImageofPicture","Description". Below is my code: Words highlighted in bold is where the problem occurs. No image is display in the Image box but theres a red cross at the top left. Image description is displaying fine in the textboxes
int MaxRows = 0; int inc = 0; int inc1 = 1; int inc2 = 2; int inc3 = 3; System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection cs; System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter dta; DataSet ds1; byte[] photo_array; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { cs = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(); //tell the program where the database is located cs.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0;Data Source=C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Website1\App_Data\Database.mdb"; ds1 = new DataSet(); string sql = "SELECT * From Images ORDER BY ImageDescription ASC"; dta = new System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter(sql, cs); cs.Open(); dta.Fill(ds1, "Images"); Navigation(); //MaxRows equals to the total amount of records from the database MaxRows = ds1.Tables["Images"].Rows.Count; } private void Navigation() { //get the first records from the database DataRow dtaRow = ds1.Tables["Images"].Rows[inc]; //get column values in the row TextBox3.Text = dtaRow.ItemArray.GetValue(1).ToString(); TextBox7.Text = dtaRow.ItemArray.GetValue(3).ToString(); DataRow dtaRow1 = ds1.Tables["Images"].Rows[inc1]; TextBox4.Text = dtaRow1.ItemArray.GetValue(1).ToString(); TextBox2.Text = dtaRow1.ItemArray.GetValue(3).ToString(); DataRow dtaRow2 = ds1.Tables["Images"].Rows[inc2]; TextBox5.Text = dtaRow2.ItemArray.GetValue(1).ToString(); TextBox8.Text = dtaRow2.ItemArray.GetValue(3).ToString(); DataRow dtaRow3 = ds1.Tables["Images"].Rows[inc3]; TextBox6.Text = dtaRow3.ItemArray.GetValue(1).ToString(); TextBox9.Text = dtaRow3.ItemArray.GetValue(3).ToString(); //if 3rd column value is not null if (ds1.Tables[0].Rows[inc][2] != System.DBNull.Value) { Image5.ImageUrl = "ImageHandler.ashx?ImageDescription=" + TextBox3.Text; } if (ds1.Tables[0].Rows[inc1][2] != System.DBNull.Value) { Image5.ImageUrl = "ImageHandler.ashx?ImageDescription=" + TextBox4.Text; } if (ds1.Tables[0].Rows[inc2][2] != System.DBNull.Value) { Image5.ImageUrl = "ImageHandler.ashx?ImageDescription=" + TextBox5.Text; } if (ds1.Tables[0].Rows[inc3][2] != System.DBNull.Value) { Image5.ImageUrl = "ImageHandler.ashx?ImageDescription=" + TextBox6.Text; } } } Code for ImageHandler.ashx: using System; using System.Web; using System.Data.OleDb; public class ImageHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest (HttpContext context) { string qry = "SELECT ImageofPicture FROM Images WHERE ImageDescription = ?"; string connect = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0;Data Source=C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Website1\App_Data\Database.mdb"; using (OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connect)) { if (context.Request.QueryString["id"] != null) { OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(qry, conn); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("", context.Request.QueryString["id"]); conn.Open(); using (OleDbDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { if (rdr.HasRows) { rdr.Read(); context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"; context.Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])rdr["ImageofPicture"]); } } } } } public bool IsReusable { get { return false; }
I am wondering if it's possible to work on Content Place Holder window without seeing master page template?
The second problem i've noticed is that when i try to add a table (1 row, 3 columns) to my content place holder and then try to adjust the width of those columns the whole layout of my page is getting messed up to the point that i have to use ctrl+x to go back to previous stage. The master page was very complicated but i finally got it to work and i don't understand why while i manipulate contentplaceholder the layout of the master page is being affected. (only when adjusting tables)I am new to Visual Studio and was wondering of any known standars in that matter.
I'm getting "Cannot connect to ASP.NET development server" almost every time I stop the ASP.NET server before restarting the project in debug mode. It can take between 15 seconds and 2 minutes to get the error message, and Visual Studio is frozen.
Sometimes I get three in a row, and I have to wait 2 minutes each time, or go into Task Manager and kill to process. Then I have to start Visual Studio 2010 again, which is at least three times slower than Visual Studio 2008 to open.
It's *extremely* annoying. I know I don't have to close the server if the code has changed, but sometimes I simply want to restart my website in debug mode (there is a cache on most web service calls, so this clears the cache). A workaround is to add "foo" code to a class and restart the project.
I'm running Visual Studio 2010 Professional on Windows Server 2008. I'm running the Visual Studio Power Tools too, with the latest update.
I've installed visual studio 2010 full version and worked on couple of assignments. Right now, I'd want to connect to SQL server database to move ahead and store and retrieve data into the database. Can someone please point me in theright direction or walk me through the configuration. I see sql server 2008 has come with Visual Studio 2010. Not really sure if i need to install anything else. Also, post a sample application code to connect and fetch data using a select statement ??
I want to use SQL Server 2008 Web Edition with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (Both are installed fine on Windows 7).I know I can change the entry in Data Connection (in VS Options) to the named instance of my Web Edition but, when I do this then try to add a database to an App_Data folder (via Add New Item...) I get an error saying I need the Express version of SqlServer 2005 or 2008 (I opted NOT to install this during installation as I knew I'd be using the full Web Edition instead).
I CAN add a data connection to a database created in the Web Edition instance by Sql Server Management Studio so VS can use the Web Edition instance.So, if I've changed the Data Connection to the Web Edition instance, why can't I add a database using that instance to my App_Data folder? Can I ONLY add Express instance databases to this folder?
I have problem accessing an SQL server DB on a remote server.Actually, I had no problem with creating a connection string to it using the Visual Web Deveoper 2005 Express Edition GUI, however, I have problem connecting to it through the code.This is the connection string created by the GUI, and connection test on the connection wizzard GUI just works fine.
The Security is working fine when testing on a local machine, but when it gets published to the server, it seems that It can't get any active directory information at all.
For example, on the local computer <asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" FormatString="(Welcome {0})" CssClass="loginname" runat="server" /> returns "Welcome DOMAINusername" but when it's published, it doesn't return anything at all.
Using code i've added users to the correct roles and checked they are really in the roles, but security when published won't recognise the current user's name, so it all fails.
Im working on a website project with Visual Studio 2010 from 2 different computers (home & work). In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?
i install url rewrite iis module to my computer i want when i press f5 in visual studio my project work with url rewrite how can i this?my web sites is not seeming in iis.
I cannot get VWD to recognize a database where access is limited to an internal IP from the Web server. Remote connections directly to the database aren't allowed.I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express on my machine. Our Web site is on a remote hosted server, say 1.1.1.1. We have MSSQL 2005 set up on another remote hosted server, available only through an internal IP, say 2.2.2.2, from the Web server. RemotI'm going crazy trying to establish a connection in VWD that will actually display the database in VWD's Database Explorer, which would then allow me to use the VWD tools to add data elements to my pages.
Every time I edit a resource file in VS, it regenerates the corresponding code and sets the class access modifier to internal.It's a pain to Ctrl-F -> ReplaceAll every time I edit the resx. Is there a property/setting so that I can default this to public?
internal class MyResource { internal static global::System.Resources.ResourceManager ResourceManager {...} }
I need all those internal to be public all the time.
After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).
But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):
This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.
Would something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?
I am wondering what standard (the "term" i think is right) does the internal web browser follows? Is it the same with Chrome, Netscape or Safari? because recently I notice that the Internal Web Browser of Visual Web Developer shows different output compare to Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and Internet Explorer 8.. Here are the screen shot of the output from different browser.
