Is there anything special to do with Windows 2008 R2 Server and Visual Studio 2010 to get Oracle quereis to work? I have the same DB Connnection.string I have used before and it works. I am at a loss here.

View 2 RepliesI am having an issue coinnecting to Oracle using the Oracle Database (OracleClient). I can connect to Oracle using other tools such as TOAD, POWERBUILDR, SQL PLUS but not Visual Studio. These other tools use the TNSNAMES.ORA file so that is not the problem. I can use use oledb and it connects ORACLE but not the ODP.Net.

please correct me if I am missing any other elements required to connect to a remote DB Server or Local one. If any provider is needed how do you deploy it at production server?

When I edit in a asp file, the intellisense does not work for any ADODB objects with vs2008(sp1) in Windows 7.For example:Set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.connection")
.. And next line I keyin "conn". Then keyin ".", but it does not popup the intellisense menu for ADODB.connection.But, the native objects for asp, such as Request, Response, Session, Server.. etc., them popup the intellisense menu correctly.Or some other objects, such as "CDO.Message", them work fine !
I have Oracle 10G express edition. I have configured it on windows 7 system. Now I want to make a 64 bit application using visual studio 2010 and connect to oracle 10 g server. If I run my application in VS2010 explecitly in 86 mode then I am connected to database but I want it to happen for 64 bit

I have a clean installation of Windows 7 with VS2010 RTM and am trying to get the ASP.NET Development Server to work. When I run the project, the WebDev server starts and shows that it's listening on port x on localhost. I've tried:telnet to the port. The port is not listening. running netstat -o shows that the WebDev server is in fact not listening on any port. manually changing the WebDev port to a different port and restarted VS without effect. I have Windows Firewall turned off entirely and am not running any other firewall software either.
View 1 RepliesI have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!

View 1 RepliesWe are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum

View 1 RepliesI have created a web app using Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have come to the point where I need to publish the site onto my server (which is running window server 2008). I found that the publish function is not limited in the express edition, so published the app to a local file and FTP'd the contents across to my server. I then setup a website through the servers IIS manage and pointed it to the folder containing the FTP'd files.
My question is, how do I run the app? Do I need to point to a specific file?
I have tried to view a number of the files in browser directly from the IIS but keep getting the same standard connection error i.e. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I recently set up a new development machine for myself back in November, and naively downloaded the then-current versions of VWD Express (2010) and SQL Server Express (2008 R2). Bummer to find out that they are not compatible. VWDE 2010 won't deal with a database version beyond 655, while SQL Server 2008 R2 is 661. Has the issue already been fixed (i.e. if I reinstall VWD 2010 Express today, will it now handle version 661 databases? Or will the issue be fixed at some point in the future? Or is it necessary (and even possible) to remove R2 and install plain SQL Server 2008 to get databases that VWDE 2010 will work with?
I want to use SQL Server 2008 Web Edition with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (Both are installed fine on Windows 7).I know I can change the entry in Data Connection (in VS Options) to the named instance of my Web Edition but, when I do this then try to add a database to an App_Data folder (via Add New Item...) I get an error saying I need the Express version of SqlServer 2005 or 2008 (I opted NOT to install this during installation as I knew I'd be using the full Web Edition instead).
I CAN add a data connection to a database created in the Web Edition instance by Sql Server Management Studio so VS can use the Web Edition instance.So, if I've changed the Data Connection to the Web Edition instance, why can't I add a database using that instance to my App_Data folder? Can I ONLY add Express instance databases to this folder?

Im working on a website project with Visual Studio 2010 from 2 different computers (home & work).
In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?
I had archived all of my files prior to the change. Since I am now having a great deal of trouble working with 2010, I want to revert. My question is: If I restore all of the archived files and start 2008, will I need to make any changes to the registry or to any other files?
The problems that I am having are illusive. Some of the relative paths nolonger work. Some f the projects that had been working for 24 months no longer functions. I am having a great deal of trouble calling my older "[WebMethod]" "ASMX" services and many other issues.
Does anyone know of a way that I could sync a few contact info views from an OracleDB to SQL Server without spending thousands on syncing software?

View 1 RepliesI am considering an upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 Pro from my Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition while the price is still $299. I have successfully used Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition along with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition to produce websites with database backends. I am assuming that I will still be able to do this with Visual Studio 2010 Pro without any heart-stopping transitional problems. Anyone have any experiences/advice about this? And just for the record, I cannot afford Visual Studio 2010 Premium which I believe would make this a moot point.
