MVC :: POSTing Variables To The Return Url?
Jan 26, 2010
Any time the session times out on our web application the user is taken back to the login screen. After they login they are taken back to the returlurl which throws a 404 error because mvc does not know how to route that request without any posted variables.. Is there any solution to this?

I'm posting data to a page called process.aspx that handles some business logic with the following code:
<%@ Page Language="C#" %>
<%
MyData.process(Request);
Response.Redirect("")
%>
this page I will be calling from a variety of pages. Is there some way of knowing from which page my form was submitted? I was thinking something along the lines of writing:
<form id="frmSystem" method="post" action="process.aspx?page=<%= %>">
However I don't know what to write in between the <%= %> to get the current page name.

I have a stored procedure which returns a value to state if the userlogin is valid. but i want to return the data and store it in a data session as i will require the user details in the checkout page.
is it best to get individual parameters out of the stored procedure then assign the variables to a datatable which is then assigned to session Or how can i get all the details returned from the stored procedure for the table? not sure which would be the most effective solution?

i am trying to collect 2 variables from one hyperlink, and use those variables in the page_load to set as session. but i don't know how to collect those 2 variables
such :
<a href="javascript:;" onclick="wsChangeColor('mainData', '#FF0000','#FFE4E1');return false;" title="Change color" id="red">1</a>
i would like to collect '#FF0000','#FFE4E1' or direct set '#FF0000','#FFE4E1' to string then send to pageload, how can i do this by only clicking on it ?

whats the exact use of static variables in overall programming in .net and for asp.net...
Recently i went for the interview where interviewer asked me 2 question which i was not sure for the same..
whats the use of session object, i said sessions are the server side object, they are used when you want to store user specific data at server side, then he asked what if i want to use static variables for the same, i was mum, can anyone tell me how asp.net will behave if i store the user specific information in static variables.If i use cookies which are the best option to store the data at client side (not sensitive one), but what if user has disabled cookies on his machine, will my application would crash.

I have an update function in my data layer which is defined as:
public int UpdateRBTable(parameters ...) This calls a SQL Server Stored Procedure to perform an update function on the database.
The process does its job for updating the table. However, the stored procedure has a return value (which indicates how many rows were updated), but this return value is not returned to the application. The application always shows that a zero was returned from the stored procedure.

Can my WebMethod return an XmlDocument as return type?
When I try to consume the web service I'm still not getting XML. It appears as though a reference to the method is being returned rather than say a string containing XML.
<WebMethod()> _
Public Function CustomerSearch(ByVal lastName As String, ByVal firstName As String, ByVal companyName As String, ByVal city As String, ByVal state As String, ByVal email As String) As XmlDocument
' Create XML doc
Dim doc As XmlDocument = New XmlDocument()
' some more code
Return doc
End Function

How to get asp.net return drop down list to return value as int
I want to pass the value to a stored procedure as an integer. But the default appears to be as a string which is not what the store procedure is expecting.
Is there a good way to return the list values as ints?
I suspect I can you set the value on the change selection event, is there another way?

So I have a form with a text area on it, and I need to post it. I can't encode it (as far as I know) client side, prior to submit, and it causes the yellow screen of death before reaching the HttpPost action handler.

I have an asp .net form and within it two buttons. One button posts to a page, the other posts to self. I don't have an issue, but some users report that upon pressing the first button that posts to another page, then pressing back in browser, the button that should post to itself and do stuff code behind posts to the other page. a bit of code here but its standard stuff
Code:
<asp:Button ID="btnPreview" runat="server" PostBackUrl="xpreviewmycard.asp" Text="Preview" ValidationGroup="card" CausesValidation="true" />
<asp:Button ID="btnsend" runat="server" Text="Send" ValidationGroup="card" CausesValidation="true" />

How do we intall and use templates tha are on asp.net's web site? I have done the following:
Go to "%PROGRAMFILES%Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0Common7IDEProjectTemplatesCSharpWeb1033" (folder might vary since I'm using VS2010 Ultimate, but you can locate the folder easily by just looking for
ProjectTemplates folder at %PROGRAMFILES%). Locate and copy the MvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip and
EmptyMvcWebApplicationProjectTemplatev2.0.cs.zip files into "%HOMEPATH%My DocumentsVisual Studio 2010TemplatesProjectTemplatesVisual C#"
If you are running Visual Studio you'll need to restart it before you can see any effects.
I also have installed n2cms_2.0_Framework and mvc 1 installed although I do not see it in VS 2010. I am running VS 2010 on Windows 7 Ultimated with SQL 2008 RC. VS and SQL are on Drive D:
Should these templates be part of IIS under inetput/wwwroot? assist me with this questions or point me in the right direction.

I basically have a View Page which allows user input into a Model. The Model consists of a few input boxes and 2 seperate FileUpload controls. Anything input into the text boxes is passed fairly easily to the controller, but the file uploads are really causing me issues. If only one of the FileUploads is used by the client, then the page still posts, but if the client puts files into both of the uploads i get a Http 504 Error:
ReadResponse() failed: The server did not return a response for this request.
As a side note, if I change the FileUpload controls to normal html input controls, the page posts, but Request.Files is always empty.
Here is the code in my view page:
[Code]....
why the FileUpload control causes a 504 error and/or why the standard input control does not pass anything in Request.Files to the controller?

I have a simple Usercontrol that has an image and textbox. This has just been really difficult to use, and I am wondering what I am doing wrong.
[Code]....
The first problem is the in the Page_Load procedure. It seems that if I create this control dynamically, the Page_Load is called before the image or textbox are created making it impossible to intiantiate the objects. Since this was so difficult, I just created 5 of these usercontrol and put them on the page.
[Code]....
I can now set the image src from my code, but when I click submit, there is no information about the textbox contents (as well as the image contents). The information shows in the browser, but it is not returned to the server code behind section of my code.

when any Button control is clicked generally it Postback the page to itself, and the same page is regenerated.This is the usual defination of postback in context of a Button Control. But my dear friends i am confused that what is the actual mechanism behind this.Okey say for definition the above statement is fine but believe me i not not getting the actual meaning.What is posting back the Page? What is Page in browser's context? There is only html markup, JavaScript and CSS codes in browser's page.These make up the html page. I think there is no any relation of this Browser's page with ASP.NET Page class. What does it mean that browser's content is posted back to the Page itself ?

I have faced with some strange behavior and I hope you will be able to tell, what I do wrong. My goal is to change the order of some object. This object has property Priority which defines the order. Objects render as a list and user can drag elements for prepare order. When user click save, JS code modifies Priority property in hidden fields in accordance with order of elements in the list. And this form is sent to the server.
