Web Forms :: Storing Javascript Variables Into C# Variables

Jan 2, 2010

I have this code in javascript: var x = e.mapX; It gets the X-coordinate of a map. What I want to do is that I want to store this into a c# variable. I have a class named Test with an integer property X. I want to store var x into X. In the codebehind, I have this on the Page_Load: Test test = new Test(); Then I am trying this on the javascript code: var x = e.mapX;

State Management :: Using Caching While Storing Variables?

Jun 1, 2010

I've begun building a bit of a framework that I wouldnt mind working with. The idea is to create a framework that makes it even easier to create CMS addons (So basically a CMS framework).

One of my goals with this project, was having all modules made within the framework automatically support version without any extra coding.

More to the point, the way that I started building this, many pieces (Lots had to do with the versioning system) became interlinked. A version Object in the code related directly to a Module Object and vice versa, therefore the class definitions for each relate to eac otherh. (So having only the Module object, i could access the versioning object and all of its properties). My issue with this is of course what happens if i have both the module and versioning objects in my code simoultaneously, resulting in having not just duplicates of the data within the code, but (perhaps) infinite amounts, killing the app.

So what im wondering is, what if my modules properties where stored within the cache? Ie if i had the Module object, and it had the property ID -- Then the data for ID would be stored in the cache within the module object. Referencing the value simply retrieves the value from the cache if it exists there, and the SQL database if it doesnt. This way, all instances of the module that may be running at the same time will have access to the same information, at the same time, and hopefully causing it to use less space in total.

I would then add a function, so that if a developer was loading a rarely used module, or dident want to occupy cache space with large amounts of data, then they could just call a Dispose function that would remove the data from the cache.

Does this method sound reasonable? I know this probably isnt what the cache is designed for -- but I cant think of any other way to do this without having an infinite loop of objects referring to each other, or causing huge discrepencies from having different instances of objects referencing values that should be the same, but arent because they are technically different instances.

C# - Storing Classes In Session Variables - How It Works (memory)

Mar 31, 2011

I've read that you can store classes directly into a session variable i.e.

Session["var"] = myclass;

My question is how the memory management works. Does it automatically serialize this into the session on the client side?

Or does it hold the data for the instance of the class in server memory, and just holds a reference in the session object?

Storing User Variables In Database Versus Session In C#

Jul 28, 2010

I'm working with an asp.net application that stores most data in a database and not session. I'm wondering of the pros and cons of each and which is the better way to go. For example, you have a pretty busy site and instead of storing user specific variables in session, there is a DB table called user data and it can store all user specific data that can be accessed from any page by querying the database. Which is the better way to go, session or database?

Working With Static Variables / Store The User Specific Information In Static Variables?

Mar 5, 2011

whats the exact use of static variables in overall programming in .net and for asp.net...

Recently i went for the interview where interviewer asked me 2 question which i was not sure for the same..

whats the use of session object, i said sessions are the server side object, they are used when you want to store user specific data at server side, then he asked what if i want to use static variables for the same, i was mum, can anyone tell me how asp.net will behave if i store the user specific information in static variables.If i use cookies which are the best option to store the data at client side (not sensitive one), but what if user has disabled cookies on his machine, will my application would crash.

C# - Get Variables From JavaScript To (MVC)

Mar 6, 2010

I'm using ASP.NET MVC (I'm really new to both asp.net and the asp.net mvc type projects, but trying hard to learn).

I've set up MVC with a controller so that it runs a C#.net method which;

queries an mssql db
converts it to json
returns the json string

It's called from the javascript by requesting an url with a parameter. But what I need now is for the C# part to read two integer variables from the javascript. What would be the best way to do that, and does anyone have any good examples/code that I could look at?

Using JavaScript / Code-Behind Variables Interchangeably?

Jan 2, 2012

I have a webpage in which I declared a variable in my code-behind as:

Code : Private ok As New HiddenField

I have a javascript function that sets this variable to either "T" or "F". However, I have a server-side button control that in the click() event, it checks the "ok" variable like this:

Code:
If ok.Value = "T" Then
FormatFields()
End If

The javascript function initializes the "ok" variable to "T". It goes thru a series of field edits. When a field doesn't pass the edit, it sets the "ok" variable to "F". Either way, this variable has a value. When the code-behind event above checks the "ok" variable, it's value is "".

Including ListItem Variables In JavaScript Function Call?

Jan 28, 2011

I have a nested ListView (Master/Detail) and want to invoke a JavaScript function in the detail ItemTemplate so that this function can call a static method on the server site and post the field update. I need to include three data variables in the function call, two of which must come from the ListItem data. The JavaScript call to SaveAnswer that is contained in a list item embedded in the inner listview does not render properly. The code must pass three variables: ThisPAQID is a public variable from the codebehind. I could probably make it a hidden variable on this page. QuestionID is a variable from the current listitem and is contained in the table cell immediately preceeding the SaveAnswer method call.

The nested listview works great, and if I dummy the PAQID and QuestionID values in the function call (e.g. SaveAnswer(1,1, this.Value), it works fine.

<asp:ListView ID="lstQuestions" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="lstQuestions_ItemDataBound">
<LayoutTemplate>
<table>[code]....

When I put a breakpoint into this code in FireFox, the break never fires. Do I need an "OnBlur" tied to this code? Clearly I am not a JavaScript wizard.

Javascript - Access Global Variables That Are Set Inside An Event Listener?

Dec 18, 2010

I am working with Google maps api V3. I need to get the values of the getSouthWest & getNorthEast bounds of my map. To do this the 'bounds_changed' event needs to be fired in order to get the new values. This is all good, however, I need to access these values from outside the event and passed to a server side function (more specifically, I don't want to call my server side function every time the map bounds are changed).

My code is:

//Global
var sw, nw, Searchbounds;
function myFunc(){
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'bounds_changed', function() {
Searchbounds = map.getBounds();
sw = Searchbounds.getSouthWest();
ne = Searchbounds.getNorthEast();
});
CallServerSideWebService(sw.lat(), ne.lng(), ne.lat(), ne.lng());
}

When executing this code I get the error message sw is undefined.

.NET Form Name - JavaScript Variables That (sign) Reference "aspnetForm" That Are Broken?

From what I understand, the id of the master on an ASP.NET page is "aspnetForm". I noticed today that for some reason in one of our pages it's now "form1". What would cause this change? Web Forms :: How To Pass Variables Between Includes

Sep 1, 2010

I have been reading up on this all day, and I can't find the answer (or more likely, don't understand the answers I have found) to my problem. I am completely new ASP.NET and trying to make a trasition from Classic ASP.

In classic ASP it was possible to 'pass' variables between include files. In ASP.NET includes are very different. I'll keep this simple:

I have 'header', 'content' and 'footer' pages. The header and footer are both 'includes' in the content page.

I want to be able to pass a variable from the header to the footer. Heres a snip of my code so far:

[Code]....

[Code]....

[Code]....

However this errors crops up in the footer when run:

Compiler Error Message: BC30451: Name 'helloworld' is not declared.

So how do I make this variable available to the pages involved??

I imagine there is more than one way of doing this for many circumstances.
