MVC :: Post Method In MVC - Public ActionResult MyPost Obj.labels Is Null Whereas Name And Description Contains Updated Values
Feb 17, 2010
I am using ASP.net MVC for the developement. My Model class looks like
class MyModel
{
string name;
string desc;
string[] labels;
}
When I bind this model to the view, all the values are displayed on the view successfully. But on Postback method public ActionResult MyPost(MyModel obj) obj.labels is null whereas name and desc contains updated values. why is it so?

Why would i be getting NullReferenceException if im setting the labels with values?In my page_load i have the following:
Label hireMess = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("hireMess");
Label hireEnd = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("hireEnd");
HyperLink hyptry = (HyperLink)FormView1.FindControl("hyptry");
and right below that i have 1 condition to check for and then set the Text value of the 2 labels.hireMess.Text = "It Was Successfully!";hireEnd.Text ="You will be re-directed to your Pool in 10 seconds.";I compared the page to production and eveyrthing is the same and production doesnt have any issues.. not sure why its coming up null.The error comes up for the first label:Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Description:An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.Source Error:

I am having a problem where when I form post to an action it gets null values in my hosted enviroment although if I use a model to bind to it works fine. Everything posts and works correctly when I run the project.
So far I have tried to pass the form fields back as parameters on the action and get the value through the context request. Both work fine but as soon as I publish it to the hosted enviroment, it doesn't work. in the view I have:
<%=Html.TextBox("subject") %>
<%=Html.TextBox("comment") %>
for the action Method:
[HttpPost]
[Authorize]
public ActionResult Reply(int? id, string subject, string comment)
{
//Some code...
}
I have verified that it is hitting the action but the subject and comment values are null. I am guessing I am missing something simple, maybe a security setting in the config, that is causing this since I am still fairly new with MVC. I am running VS 2008 with MVC2.

I am using VS 2008 SP1. My also have included CSS Friendly adapter [URL] in my project ( I mentioned this because my GridView Empty data template is not showing when using GridView's CCS Friendly adapter). I have a GridView and a DetailsView. When a record in GridView is selected its details information is shown in the Details View. Type of Data source I am using is ObjectDataSource. My Insert and Update methods works perfectly. It is only the Delete method that is passing null values to the underlying object delete method. My source codes for both the UI, BLL, DAL is shown below

I want to do some processing on a attribute before returning the view. If I set the appModel.Markup returned in the HttpPost ActionResult method below to "modified" it still says "original" on the form. Why cant I modify my attribute in a HttpGet ActionResult method?
[HttpGet]
public ActionResult Index()
{
return View(new MyModel
{
Markup = "original"
});
}
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Index(MyModel appModel)
{
return View(new MyModel
{
Markup = "modified"
});
}

Calling aContext.Response.Redirect(...) from an ActionResult subclass' ExecuteResult method results in an HTTP GET being sent to the specified URL.
Does someone know how to get the redirect to send an HTTP POST instead? This is necessary for passing control to PayPal's payment page.

I have just started using MVC. I created the MVC application and was playing around with it.When you call the http://localhost/home/Index/ on the sample MVC application the Index method of the controller home gets invoked and the view Index.aspx is displayed and similarly when we call http://localhost/home/About/ then the About method of the Home controller is invoked and the About.aspx page is displayed

Im really new to ASP.net. I am hoping to work with one TextBox, one Sumbit button and an unlimited amount of Labels....
I am wanting to input information into a TextBox then click a submit button and post to Label1, then empty the Textbox ready for further information.
The further information will then be added to Label2 after clicking the same submit button for the second time, then repeat this process for Label3, Label4 etc etc

I have a web application. I am using C#. I have existing methods in my API for various things but all only submit and return bool/int/strings.
All of my API methods have the directive System.ServiceModel.OperationContract
All the parameters are of System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMember
I would like to be able to receive a posted file over HTTP. All I've been finding is people attempting to save a HttpPostedFile after submitting it in a form.
EDIT: this will be called from an iPhone application. Not via the browser on the iPhone Basically, I would like to do this: [URL]

Updates to the edited item are not passing the new / updated values but rather the original values. And I can't for the life of me figure out why when I change the original value in an edit textbox and post the update the new value is not being passed. I get the original value. Perhaps fresh eyes can spot the problem. This should be super basic but apparently I'm missing something.
Here's the code for the Item and Edit templates. The code behind is below this.

've created a Search partial view and it works, except for my view model. What i mean is, the partial view sends a string to my ActionResult Method, but only a string, that is not related to the view model that the partial view is built in. If i tell my ActionResult method to receive the view model in which the partial view is built in, it always tells me that i have null values. Here's my code This is my partial view:

I have a problem with calling a method on a aspx page from a usercontrol.
The case is: I have 1 main page with 5 usercontrols, when something goes wrong in the code I want to display the error message in a Modalpopup Extender. I can create for each usercontrol a different modalpopup extender but isn't much easier when I make 1 popup in the aspx page. But the problem is: How should I call a method in the aspx page that open the popup?
I have search several hours on the internet but can't find anything useful.
