MVC: Proper Way To Consume/link To A Resource From Another Controller?
Mar 8, 2010
In a view, I want to consume some Json produced by an action on another controller. I don't think I ought to be arbitrarily specifing the url for the resource because if I say something like "/Dealerships/GetDealerData" and if my application is a virtual directory at say "www.somesite.com/MyApplication", then my reference to that resource would break.
I'm sure there's something to do w/ Routes that will allow me to correctly generate the url of the resource by specifing the controller and action name but I don't know what it is and am having difficulty finding it. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
I'm trying to localize an asp.net web application. Consider the following asp.net code. I'm running with CurrentCulture and CurrentUICulture set to German ("DE-DE").
I expect these two lines to yield the same result, but instead I get this:
Auswertungen für den Tagesabschluss End of Day
In other words, the first syntax <%= ReportTitles.EndOfDay %>successfully retrieves the value from the ReportTitles.de.resx file we're using, but the second syntax <asp:Literal ID="litLabel" runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:ReportTitles, EndOfDay %>"/> gets the value out of the default US English ReportTitles.resx file.
I have been reading about adding a webservice to an MVC project and how this might conflict with the MVC structure. I added a webservice and it works with windows phone 7, it receives a number, (it's a simple application). I added the webservice by right clicking the Controller folder and selecting add new item->webservice. I am using the SOAP support already integrated in visual studio. I was wondering if there is a way that instead of adding a webservice that the windows phone 7 receives and sends data directly to the controller. The windows phone 7 communicates by right clicking on the solution explorer and adding a service reference.
I am able to upload a file to the server into a folder structure. but when I try to link to the file, the image path in the code is giving a strange url.
I know I can use Html.ActionLink(...) from my view to render an anchor tag with a link to an action. I know I can call RedirectToAction(...) from the controller to immediately call another action. But what I'd like to do (and don't know how), is get an action link from within the controller. I am building up a breadcrumb and want the link to an action. So I don't want to immediately jump to the action (as with RedirectToAction), but just get what the link would be.
I have one problem with actionlink. My Example is: i have one view(xyz.aspx) and controller(abc.vb) , in this view i put below line
<%=Html.ActionLink("Manage", "Index", "Advertisement", New With {.aintCampaignid = Cam.CampaignID})%>
I have another view(Index.aspx) and controller(Advertisement.vb) if click on manage link in XYZ view it will call to advertisement controller and index function But iam getting [URL] it wont call.
I'm using ASP.Net MVC Design pattern and when adding a controller to my application I'm receiving the below error. I added the controller called EmailMeController.cs in the Controllers folder and everything builds correctly. I created a link to /EmailMe/ but that doesn't work. I've added another controller previously to the same site with no problems. Here's a link to my controller: [URL]
Server Error in '/' Application.

UML and Patterns: An Introduction to Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and Iterative Development, that follows the UP(Unified Process). It uses a Grasp Controller pattern to interact with domain classes by some methods like NewSale(), AddNewItemToSale() and CloseSale. In windows form, I can instantiate a object of this class in the UI and then use its methods to perform the actions. This works well in Client apps, but when I use asp.net mvc, I cannot find a way to instantiate an object (one for each user) that was always visible for a Controller (MVC). I cannot insert as an attribute inside Controller because it always create a new one.
In our web application we need to keep various company's settings. For eg "DiamondProdRefIDCaption","Shippingpickup","ZipCodeCaption","DefaultCountry","AllowToEditInvoice", etcThese settings are different for various companies and are placed in web.config as key-value pair.Initially, we have tried do simplify this process by adding a company_settings table in the DB so as to allow us to add companies on the fly. However, this method makes it very difficult to add a new setting
Lets say I have a simple controller for ASP.NET MVC I want to test. I want to test that a controller action (Foo, in this case) simply returns a link to another action (Bar, in this case). How would you test TestController.Foo? (either the first or second link)
My implementation has the same link twice. One passes the url throw ViewData[]. This seems more testable to me, as I can check the ViewData collection returned from Foo(). Even this way though, I don't know how to validate the url itself without making dependencies on routing. The controller:
public class TestController : Controller { public ActionResult Foo()[code].....
I have a class library and was to add a resource file to it to support both English and Spanish. Any tips as how I can do this? The language will be dictated by the user visiting the site. Would like to have to only load each resource file once and cache or set in static variable and avoid any overheads.
my MVC2 delete and only my delete controller is refusing to return any class information. Its really similar to my edit function and the views are all auto-generated so I don't see the problem.
Function Delete(ByVal id As Integer) As ActionResult
I have a simple model where a Person has Gifts. I have a view which is a list of Gifts belonging to one Person.
My problem is with the Create action for a new Gift. I want it to default to the PersonID that we are already viewing the list of Gifts for. I tried simply passing the last PersonID (they are all the same)
Html.ActionLink("Create New", "Create", new { id = Model.Last().PersonID }) which works fine if there is already at least one Gift for that person but if this is the first Gift I don't have a value.
My Gift List controller knows the PersonID I want to pass but the view doesn't.
How do I pass this PersonID from my Gift List controller to my Gift Create controller via the Gift List view? Or is there a better way to do this?
I have a filter on my MVC web site. I display some records in a few different controller actions but when moving from one action to another I want to apply those filter values.
How can I persist values from controller to controller?
Should I use Session? TempData?
I am using Structure Map for IOC.
Maybe I could have a class that contains a Property for each Session Value that I use in my application and inject it on the controllers that need session?
I have a User entity and a department entity. I have a UserViewModel and DepartmentListModel which has List of departments.
UserViewModel has a property of type DepartmentListModel .
Now on user/create action I need to populate DepartmentListModel by calling DepartmentController's list action. List action returns populated DepartmentListViewModel.
From UserController how do I set DepartmentListModel ?
Most often I use it when I am accessing a property of a composite control that depends on a child control. But I have also added it to OnInit of a control so I could make sure a hidden field was added correctly. Just a minute ago I called it in RenderControl because I was having an issue rendering a calendar extender and it fixed it. I am starting to get a little confused on when I need to and when I don't need to call EnsureChildControls and when I should call it.
I am facing problem to consume rss feeds, I found several articles on How to consume RSS feeds, they helped me to some extened but I didn't get info for what exactly i am looking. My problem is: I tried to consume feeds from these two [URL]
I've used this code to get the feeds info XmlTextReader readerSport = new XmlTextReader [URL]
DataSet dsSport = new DataSet(); dsSport.Clear(); dsSport.ReadXml(readerSport);
for both the feed dataset have same 8 tables but with diffrent names, and if i write the xml using the folloing code
XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.Load("[URL]"); //xmlDoc.Load("[URL]"); xmlDoc.Save(Server.MapPath("~/sowetan.xml"));
after observing the genrated xml, both the xml have diffrent structure.
1. What information required to display the feed content? 2. if we have diffrent structures for the genrated xml how can we write a single transform method? 3. Is all the 8 tables data required for displayingrss content, In most article i found they've used only for table 3 4. I want to open the feed content on my webpage, how it can be done.
I'm currently working on an ASP.NET Website where I want to retrieve data from an RSS feed. I can easily retrieve the data I want and get it to show in i.e. a Repeater control. My problem is, that the blog (Wordpress) that I'm getting the RSS from uses for linebreaks which I obviously can't use in HTML. I need to replace these with a <br /> tag.
i have not worked with XML in a while can someone post the syntax needed to build and save an xml node structure that resembles that of a tree structure that is created by a recursive function.
basically i have a recursive function that saves data found an a page(url) and then follows each URL found on that page recursivley and does the same to it. to audit this i want an output as a xml file to disk so i can see how it is doing its recursion and parsing.
the code i have is below. please add to it the needed xml calls needed to create a xml structure like the one i show below. (please include the full name space so i can see where the objects i need in .net are for this.)
page1.htm has 2 links on it:
<a href=page1_1.htm> <a href=page1_2.htm>
page1_1.htm has 2 links on it
<a href=page1_1_a.htm> (this then will have some links also) <a href=page1_1_b.htm> (this then will have no more links on it - dead end)
