MVC :: Assign Records Entered From A User Control By Html.RenderPartial?
Jan 6, 2010
I have a question for use Html.RenderPartial.
How do I assign records entered from a user control by Html.RenderPartial the model of objects of my main view?
Today when I try to save my record can not save the record of association with only the records of the Main View.
Basically the operation of the screen is the following, make the creation of a parent record and then join the other records. I want to save the parent record and associated records.
I am trying to assign user control from another user control ..first time its binding control successfully but when we refresh the data its giving error
saying "Object reference is not set an instance".
how to refresh data from another user control ...
My senerio below :
1 Aspx page
2. User control
calling usercontrol databinding method from aspx page but once it get refreshed ,not allowed to bind it again..
im getting the following exception for use into a master page the helper html.renderpartial(). This works on mvc views that uses this master page, but im trying to execute an old aspx webform page that uses the same masterpage. And here comes following exception:A ViewMasterPage can be used only with content pages that derive from ViewPage or ViewPage.This is the code of my master page:
I am working in an environment with many teams who are responsible for specific content on pages. Each team is sharing specific information (common class libraries, and master pages) that each are going deliver different types of content.Is it possible for an MVC application to do something similar to RenderPartial and pass a model to another MVC application Controller/Action to return content?
So the code for this might look like: (http://www.mydomain.com/Home/Index)
What I'm trying to do is use one master page with two different layouts. Currently we have a "master" master page that has all the common elements and two master pages that use it for the two different layouts. This gives us 3 master pages and there's developer confustion and it is a bit of a hassle to keep them consistent. What I'd like to do instead is say "if there's anything in the MainContent ContentPlaceHolder, show the single column layout, otherwise show the two column layout".
From what I've read you're supposed to be able to do this by using something like the following:
[Code]....
But this.MainContent.Controls.Count retuns zero when the ContentPlaceHolder uses Html.RenderPartial. For example, this works fine:
[Code]....
This causes this.MainContent.Controls.Count to return 1. If I remove MainContent from the view, it returns 0, as expected. However, if I do this:
[Code]....
Then this.MainContent.Controls.Count returns zero.
I have implemented a custom ModelMetadataProvider so that I can decorate my view models with some custom attributes and everything was working fine until I made use of a Partial View. The following code in my view works fine: -
<%: Html.DisplayFor(x => x.Results) %>
Results is a List which renders a custom display template and is also decorated with a custom attribute. Using breakpoints, after the above line and prior to the code within the custom display template, the overridden CreateMetadata method in my custom ModelMetadataProvider is invoked. If I look at the attributes collection parameter I can see that it does contain my custom attribute thus everything working as expected. However, if I replace the above with the following line of code in my view then it breaks: -
<% Html.RenderPartial("ApplicationSearchResults", Model.Results, new ViewDataDictionary()); %>
All the Partial View contains is: -
<%: Html.DisplayFor(x => x) %>
Again using breakpoints, after the above line and prior to the code within the custom display template, the overridden CreateMetadata method in my custom ModelMetadataProvider is invoked. But this time if I look at the attributes collection parameter my custom attribute is not there.
The following link describes the relationships between a Partial View and its parent in terms of ViewData: [URL] In relation to the text: "A partial view enables you to define a view that will be rendered inside a parent view. Partial views are implemented as ASP.NET user controls (.ascx).
When a partial view is instantiated, it gets its own copy of the ViewDataDictionary object that is available to the parent view. The partial view therefore has access to the data of the parent view. However, if the partial view updates the data, those updates affect only the partial view's ViewData object. The parent view's data is not changed"
how the parent view can make use of the new data added or existing data changed and updated, by the partial views? My question is around how to load partial views dynamically at runtime using Html.RenderPartial(...) whilst having one version of the data used and updated by the parent view and it's children.
I have a simple user control (myControl.ascx) , in the myControl.ascx.cs file, I defined:
public string sUserName { get { return _sUserName; } set { _sUserName = value; populateData(); } }
In one of my aspx page, I use this control:
[Code]....
myNameSapce.Config.sType is a public value from a class, I just can't get that value for above inline code, is it possible to do that? Otherwise, I need go to the .cs file to do this: myControl1.sUserType = myNameSapce.Config.sType; But still hope I can do the inline code.
I have a simple user control which toggles between the visibility of a few images depending on the UserId. When the page is loaded for the first time, the userID is being assigned correctly (I'm debugging). However, there are two other buttons on the page for filtering the type of users, they are perform their functionality via Ajax (not the toolkit, but the normal javascript ajax) When one of these buttons are clicked, the user control cant get the userid, it always comes up as Zero. Oh, btw, the usercontrol is in a DataRepeater, so it occurs for each of the user.. all the time.. or thats the Idea. I have several other pages like this, (none of them have ajax) and the user control has no problems whatsoever.
My User control code:
[Code]....
And the Data Repeater is something like this:
[Code]....
Here, Immediately after the userControl <ucAB:....> line, I am printing the userid just to see if its valid (by <%# Eval("UserId") %> and the user id's are valid too. I dont understand why the User Control cant pick it up on ajax postback?
I have a main web page and added a user control inside it. The user control has some textboxes. The problem I have is when I populate the textboxes with the data that is in the DB, they do not show the values. The strange thing is If I change the property of textboxes ReadOnly to TRUE, they show the values. The problem is that I need them to be ReadOnly=FALSE.
What I need to achieve is to filter the records returned based on the username (and hence role) of the logged-in user. e.g if an advanced user is logged in they will see all the event types, if the standard user is logged in they will only see the basic event type etc.
Ideally id like to do this in a way which can be easily extended to other tables as necessary. So I'd like to avoid simply adding a 'Roles' field to each table where the data is user context sensitive.
One idea I'm thinking of is to create some kind of permissions table like:
this has the drawback of using this is obviously having to use the table name to switch which table to join onto.
Edit: In the absence of any better suggestions, I'm going to go with the last idea I mentioned, but instead of having a TableName field, I'm going to normalise the TableName out to it's own table as follows:
I dont know why my GridView.DataSource is become nothing when the Page.IsPostBack = true.What i did is bind the dataset to the GridView.DataSource when page load. Then when the button click event is trigger i need to get all the records from GridView. But when i debug and check i found that the GridView.DataSource is become nothing. how should i get all records from the GridView and assign to dataset. I'm using VB.net to work on.
I have created a web user control I want to change the iframe' src value when the user click on the link but the problem is that I dont have access to iframe inside the page from web user control I think there is a way because my control is in the page they have some relation perhaps I like to find something like this :
I have an ASP.Net UpdatePanel that updates on a timer. Within the UpdatePanel and nested in a GridView, I have a TextBox that the user enters a value in with a submit button. Everything works fine, except if the user does not submit the value before the timed interval, the text is removed from the TextBox. Is there a way to persist the user entry into the TextBox between updates? Is there a better way of doing this?
I want to show a grid view Control that is initially displayed to allow the user to enter multiple records. This grid view will not be tied to a database nor will it need to save the data that is enter into the GridView Control directly to a database.
I have few textboxes on a page which are loaded dynamically on change of text in dropdownlist. The user enters values in these textboxes and clicks on a addnewitem button. In the code behind I want to capture the values entered in these textboxes. But I get the value as empty.
On Pageload mthd there is nothing which is referencing to createdynamiccontrols method.Then I have
[Code]....
Firstly i am getting object reference not set to an instance of an object when the createchildcontrols method is called the second time and also if I dont have the createdynamiccontrols method in additem click event, controls are no longer tehre...
