I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
I built a website using SQL 2008 Express. I want to deploy it to a hosting company (shared server). If I change the SQL 2008 Express database on my local machine (further development of the website), how can i synchronize the local SQL database with the one on the server without loosing data?
I am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.
I have a domain with several sub-domains. When I attempt to redirect the root (www.somesite.com and somesite.com) it works fine, however it also forwards the sub-domains. Each sub-domain, including the root site are setup as individual sites. I don't want to forward the sub-domains only the root site.
Is this possible in IIS7 or should I just code redirect in the Index page(S)?
I have several ASP.NET sites in IIS7 and would like to be able to group them into folders (or other mechanism, if available). Ideally, I would use a customer name or account number and put the sites under there.
Is there a way to customize the organization of sites in IIS7, or is there just the one 'flat' view?
I have three asp.net 2.0 websites running on the same host server and recently upgraded to 3.5. After making changes necessary in the root web.config all sites run, but I've lost the stylesheet for the primary site.
Before the upgrade I had the following in the root web.config
<pages styleSheetTheme="Red" />
I got errors on this line because the upgraded web.config had another <pages> section. I tried adding the stylesheetTheme='Red" to that section and the primary website ran and looked right, but the subs got an error that there was no StyleSheetTheme="Red".
Each site has it's own stylesheets. How can I restore the stylesheettheme to the primary site without putting it in the root webconfig? Or, is there another way to handle this?
I'm using ASP.net 3.5 to run a .exe with Process.Start(). It works fine if I use the host that's built-in to VS2008, WinServer 2003 but if I use IIS7 it no longer runs. I am using the following code.
Process proc = new Process(); proc.StartInfo = psi; proc.StartInfo.FileName = "cmd.exe"; proc.StartInfo.Arguments = args; proc.Start();
I have web app written in .net 4.0 using url routing. It works fine in the development environment in VS 2010.But It's not working after publishing to iis7. on remote server i'm getting error HTTP Error 404.0 - Not FoundThe resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. I tried in virtual directory and it's not working.[URL]
I'm stumped. I have a client site on a virtual private server - Windows Web Server 2008 SP2, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 Express.I'm trying to setup a second web application, to allow him to review updates prior to their going live. I've created the web application in IIS7, and I have added a second database to SQL Server. The second db is essentially a copy of the production db, with 'DEV' prefixed to the database name and a few new fields in a few tables.My production site works fine. However, the test site comes back with an SqlException: "Invalid column name 'version'." This is one of the new fields - which leads me to believe that my dev site is referring to the production database, and not the dev database. Connection strings, however, do point to different databases (although the login is the same for both):
I have multiple sites hosted at a hosting company that does not support domain pointing. Right now I have all of my domains go to the root directory and Response.Redirect() to a sub-directory which leaves me with mydomain.com/subdir/. Is there a way to make my own pointer to eliminate the /subdir/ portion of the URL?
When I use Login control with integerated security and user instance to connect Sql Server 2008 Express. When I browser the web page in VS2010 in Solution Explorer's right click context menu "Browser in Explorer", it works correctly, but in IIS 7 get an error as follow:
User does not have permission to perform this action.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: User does not have permission to perform this action.
I use IIS 7, an administrator user credential, application pool's identity is Newwork Service.
I was hosting published site in IIS 7 on Windows 7 installed machine.I had done setting for .NET framework version, Security Options but got Error as shown below

I have numerous web sites created over the years. Some were created using FrontPage with aspx pages added that were created in VS 2003 or VS 2005. Others were web sites that were actually created with VS 2005 or 2008. All these older sites reside in the C:Inetpubwwwroot folder of my present development computer, with only the .sln and the .suo files residing in the project folder. All of the sites have counterparts on the Internet.I am about to build a new computer and would prefer to only install VS 2010 on it. When Previously building new computers, I installed VS 2005 and VS 2008 so that I could administer
I am thinking about setting up a new domain to host static content on my website and have it cookieless just like Stackoverflow with their static domain. So before going ahead and buying the domain and setting it up I wanted to test it on my developement machine first under localhost (I have to mention that i am planning on having IIS running on my new domain for the static files). I therefore created a new application under IIS and disabled session state and forms authentication. When my main application needs resources like css, images and js , I use the path to the "static" application where they are hosted.
The problem is that when I look at the request and the response for the requested files, they still have the session_id cookie defined as well as the asp.net authentication cookie. Is it at all possible to accomplish what i am trying to do on a development machine or do i have to just go ahead and purchase the new domain which hopefully with make things right? I tried to read about cookieless domain but can't figure out what i might be missing.
I really need some help here. I am brand new to using Visual Studio, but need to create a web page in which you must pay to register and view a Members Only page. I have followed a lot of instructions in these forums, but seem to have hit a wall.
First off, I am not able to use the ASP.NET Configuration under the Website tab. I have already created a New Web Site, selecting Visual C#, then the first option for ASP.NET Web Site. I chose File System for Web Location, etc. Long story short, I have made an ASP.NET Web Site with Basic User Login. The Login functionality is absolutely fine, I am able to view the site locally, register, and log in no problem. However, when I try to choose ASP.NET Configuration under the Website tab, nothing happens. From what I gather, I need to use the ASP.NET Configuration in order to configure membership permissions, and therefore need to open this part of the program. In the long run, I would like to make it so that User Logins are sent via e-mail to people who have paid me and that wish to use my site, which brings me to my foreboding second problem.
I eventually need to find a web hosting service that will allow me to do all the things I have described. I was going to go with GoDaddy.com, but after doing a bit of research I realized it may not be the best option for what I am trying to do. However, through research, I have realized that VS 2010 is the best program to use for what I'm doing, but I'm in a bind because of inexperience, thus writing this question in this forum.
Any help making this web site would be greatly appreciated, I am definitely in way over my head. I have worked with computers for the last 10 years, so my inexperience is mainly with ASP programming.
Just to let you know, I have VS 2010, Visual SourceSafe, and SQL Server Express installed on this fully capable machine. What I am really looking for is someone to guide me through the process of creating this website, either through pointing me in the right direction or explaining in detail all the next steps that I must take.
I am interested in developing Web Parts that can be used in our ASP.NET sites and our SharePoint sites. An example Web Part I have in mind is a Post Code (Zip Code) look up.- Visual Studio 2010 Premium- SharePoint Designer 2007- Windows 2003 Server (therefore WSS 3.0)- No SharePoint Server
my ASP.NET web application uses windows authentication on our intranet. I want it to be able to make a server-side http request to another server on the same domain that also requires windows authentication. I've followed the instructions on temporarily impersonating the authenticated user when making the additional request here: [URL] Using code like this:
using System.Security.Principal; // Obtain the authenticated user's Identity WindowsIdentity winId = (WindowsIdentity)HttpContext.Current.User.Identity; WindowsImpersonationContext ctx = null; try { // Start impersonating ctx = winId.Impersonate(); // Now impersonating // Access resources using the identity of the authenticated user var request = WebRequest.Create("http://intranet/secureapp"); request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; var response = request.GetResponse(); using (var streamReader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream())) { Response.Write(streamReader.ReadToEnd()); } } // Prevent exceptions from propagating catch { } finally { // Revert impersonation if (ctx != null) ctx.Undo(); } // Back to running under the default ASP.NET process identity
But, unfortunately, I always get a 401 unauthorized error. Do I need to configure our webserver with active directory to allow it to delegate the autenticated user (could be any one of about 200 users, so don't want to have to do anything 200 times :))? If so, can anyone tell me how to do this?
I have a custom ASP.NET application that I utilize for several clients that I host. Each client has a separate domain and the application is normally a child application under the root domain [URL]. The application files are the same (aspx, ascx, style sheets, images, etc.). The only thing different is the web.config file for each client. As development of the application continues to evolve, I have to update the application for each directory and this obviously becoming tedious. I am trying to come up with a method keep the application up to date. My first though is placing the application into a single physical path and creating multiple applications pointing to that path (the problem with this method is I can't have different web.config files). I am curious as to what solution others are using in this scenario...
