I'm working in a MVC3 application and now I must create a procedure that runs automatic everyday. Since it's a newsletter manager I need a service that everyday check the emails to send. How can I do that ? Should I develop that in a separate way from MVC?

The problem is, that during the first client request the site loads aufully slow, cause some time-consuming static objects are being created inside the WCF service. Is it possible to call any service method (by doing this the wcf object will be created), when the site gets loaded in IIS? (I know there is a solution for this problem in ASP 4 and IIS 7.5, but i'd like to know what's about IIS6-7). It is something like "user emulation") Maybe i can add some event handlers in global.asax?
View 1 RepliesI am creating new WCF service and i would like to do two way XML for communicating with third party vendors. My wcf service get the request from the outside program by means of URL and it should response accordingly.
Example - I have url which third party will call and put xml as a request, i have to get that xml, work accordingly and response back with either success or failure and appropriate xml. I need to make it completely automatic so anybody can call that url, it will validate that user and do the next step of request and response.

The short version of this question is "is there a way to gracefully accommodate automatic field binding & database insertion for an object that has a many-to-many field that has been set up in a partial class?" Apologies if it's been asked before.
Example Suppose I have a typical MVC setup with the tables:
Posts {PostID, ...}
Categories {CategoryID, ...}
PostCategories {PostID, CategoryID, ...}
As far as I know, there's no way to do many-to-many relationships in Linq-to-SQL right now so I have to shoehorn it in by adding a partial Post class to the project to add that functionality. Something like:
public partial class Post{ public IEnumerable<Category> Categories{ get { ... } set { ... } }}
So I can now create a "Create" view that automatically populates a "Categories" UI item. It even handles like any other field- fun!
So here's my problem:
How does all of this get exposed to views like "Create" and "Index" and still get to use automatic object model binding? The goal is to a) have the view and automatic model binder treat this as if it were native functionality of the object and b) have the Post object gracefully handle creating PostCategory table entries on submission into the database.
Is there a was to automatically write a tables contents to a .txt file? For example, a table 'deals' has the columns [id], [col1] and [col2]. Another table called 'customs' has the columns [id], [info] and [details]. both [ids] relate to one another. In 'deals', the col1 and col2 data will change, but when the [col1] = [col2] id like the corresponding [id]'s on the other table to be identified and [info] and [details] data be written to a .txt file.

I have a web page which generates a .CSV file based on some user input. When this file is downloaded by the user, the file is being automatically converted to .XLS. Any idea how I can prevent this?
For example, I am redirecting the user to the URL of the generated file, like below URL:
http://localhost/reports/Work/aa.csv
But the download window appears to download "aa.xls"!
I have a website that basically allows customers to build a cart with an item that can be configured. A user will pick an item, and they'll be prompted to pick the first option they want, they get sent to the second step where they pick their second option, etc. The number of steps and the number of options are variable, as they are defined by the client. Usually the item only has 2-3 steps with 5-10 options. However, in order to make it faster for the customer, if there is only one option available for the given step, it will automatically be chosen and the user will be sent to the next step.
A client decided to set up an item with 10+ steps with only one option for each step. This results in the entire process automatically choosing everything. FireFox doesn't like this, as it gives the error Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. I haven't checked IE or Chrome, although it probably gives similar errors).
What's the best way to fix this? Right now the process is basically User picks item user picks option if there is more than one option available. Otherwise the website does step 3 itself. POST to add the option to the cart Redirect to Page.aspx?step=# repeat step 2-4 as many times as necessary
Is there any change I can make to the code or page so that FireFox doesn't think I'm in an endless loop?
My task is to create an ASP.NET application with a piece of code which will automatically run every half an hour. This code must append a record to the file every half an hour. It should not depend on users requests(whether they happen or not).
1) I'm writing my code in Application.Start method of Global.asax file. Am I right?
2) Do I have anything to do with the hosting (IIS) settings (e.g. change permissions to write the file, etc)?
I have already tried just putting the code to write to file into a loop in Application.Start method and then just copied the project directory to the server. However, it didn't work.
I have made an asp.net 3.5 website where I am using the membership in order to generate users. I have used the CreateUser Wizard that is available with the ToolBox . The problem which I am facing is that as a Person Completes his registration and redirected to the Default Page, He is automatically Logged Into the website. I dont know how is it possible to skip this step. Pls suggest so that after the registration the user need to go to the login page and use the Login Control in order to Log into the site.

I have a datasource of an excel spreadsheet provided by a customer. The data is biographic information about clients. The last row contains a web link to view an image of the subject. I have open access to download the spreadsheet and can click each image to view the full jpg in IE.
What would be the best method to loop through the image link to deposit the image into a central file location? The datasource contains 50K subjects and is updated monthly, this is why a manual process is out of the question.
