SQL Server :: Delete Spaces Created By Combining 2 Fields?

Aug 24, 2010

My users will enter a city/station where an incident occured, and the date. The trigger below does work, but it will occasionally put spaces between the citystation and the date. I think this happens when the citystaion name is not very long, but not sure.

(ex: city____08242010)

How can I make sure that if the incidentid is going to have spaces, that sql deletes those spaces? I need the id to be space free.

Url Rewriting - Consecutive Are Backslashes Removed From Url?

Oct 28, 2010

I'm having an issue in my ASP.NET web app where intentionally consecutive backslashes are being removed from the request url.

I'll request something like:
localhost/Page/A//C

But when the request hits the page, the raw url is:
localhost/Page/A/C

Not sure if this is the culprit, but I do have a Url Rewite regex in place, here's the rule:

<system.webServer>
<rewrite>
<rules>[code]...

So, after the rewrite, the querystring is coming out as Page.aspx?1=A&2=C&3= When it should be Page.aspx?1=A&2=&3=C

Web Forms :: How To Programmatically Set Template Fields Label Value Two One Of Two Fields Returned In A Sqldata...

Feb 8, 2011

I have a sql data souce that returns several columns of data, and they are displayed in a DetailsView on a pretty simple vb.net page. I'm stuggling with one field though for the details view.

It's a template field, and if ClientType=1 (this value is determined else where on the page), then the label in the template field should have Text='<%# Bind("ClientName") %>', but if the ClientType = 0, then the label in the template field should have Text='<%# Bind("ClientTemporaryName") %>'

How do I tell the details view to set the text for ClientName to one or the other?

C# - Creating A List Of Dataset Fields And Form Fields For Easy Updating?

Feb 25, 2011

I have a relatively complex dataset (numerous tables, some with multiple records) generated from reading in an XML file. I need to connect said dataset fields to an ASP form. At the moment I'm assigning them manually, like so in the pageload:

txt_first_init.Text = formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["first_init"].ToString();
txt_last_name.Text = formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["last_name"].ToString();
ddl_pregnancy_flag.SelectedValue = formData.ds.Tables["pPhrm"].Rows[0]["pregnancy_flag"].ToString();

And conversely when it's time to submit.

formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["first_init"] = txt_first_init.Text;
formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["last_name"] = txt_last_name.Text;
formData.ds.Tables["pPhrm"].Rows[0]["pregnancy_flag"] = ddl_pregnancy_flag.SelectedValue.ToString();

I did some looking into binding the textboxes (and dropdownlists, and checkboxes, and and and...) directly, but it seemed to be too many formats to use.

So this works fine, but as the number of fields increases, those load and unload lists are going to get unwieldy.

Web Forms :: Blank Spaces After Zip And Why Do They Causes?

May 3, 2010

I've finally figured out an issue I'm have with a zip code field being entered in a text box of a details view in edit mode. I'm trying to understand why i have the issue though. I don't understand why it keeps occurring.his what happens with the zip code field. I've been able to make it reoccur numerous times. If the details view is put in edit mode and the record is updated with the original 5 digit zip code, unaltered in any way, my regular expression validator catches it and doesn't let the update happen. If I change the replace the 5 digit zip code with a new one the update goes through fine. This new value can be a different or the same 5 digits and the update will work. If I don't change the value at all though the update will not go through.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView - Putting TemplateField Fields In Data Bound Fields?

Sep 26, 2010

I have a GridView, and I want Column1 to be equal to datatable data (filled by a SqlDataAdapter). Then I have two other fields by the SqlDataAdapter (first name, last name), and I want to have those two fields combined to form Column2. I have a TemplateField for my GridView that combines the first name and last name with Eval()'s, but the GridView places this combined field TemplateField and puts it as the first column.

How can I do this so that TemplateField can go in between fields that are databound?

Why Are The White Spaces Added To A Row In Sql Table

Oct 25, 2010

I'm not sure why this is, basically when I insert a row using the following function:

[code]....

The field 'Password' ends up having white spaces in it (as in "Password "). So whatever the password is it's trailed by white spaces.

The strange thing is this doesn't happen to the field 'UserName', both are of type char(50).

GridView Is Trimming Leading Spaces?

Mar 25, 2010

The GridView in ASP.NET 2.0 is trimming the leading spaces from data coming from a SQLServer database. I have yet to find a way to keep it from doing that. The data in this particular view is being edited to remove such spaces, but only upon editing the row can any leading spaces be seen, meaning, at present, each row will have to be touched. With 12,000+ rows, that's a little much.

What little I've found on Google has mainly be concerned with trimming leading spaces. Is there a way to force GridView to show the data exactly as it is in the database, leading spaces and all?

How To Display Spaces In Between Text In C# Html

Mar 29, 2011

I am getting data straight from the database into a data source. The data is binded in a repeater with link buttons.

The problem I am having is that the data in the database might have multiple spaces in the middle of the string however when being displayed on the front end only space is being shown. After thinking about it this is standard HTML behavior to remove spaces, I would have assumed that asp.net would have handled this with the rendering of the webpage. What is also happening is that when reports are exported to excel it only has 1 space instead of two.

Example:

2 spaces: "South Africa - Cape Town"
single spaces: "South Africa - Cape Town"

This is an irrelevant example but my data has real use for multiple spaces.
