Just wondering the best way to do something. I want to fill up fields on a website based on a selection from a list. For example, the user selects "Melbourne" from a list of Australian capital cities and the page will fill up with information from the database relating to Melbourne.

I have a second dropdown box which is populated from SQLDataSource2, but i need the query feeding this to be dependent on what was selected in the first dropdown box. I assumed it would simply be a case of modifying the select statement on SQLDataSource2 using the SelectedIndexChanged event on the first DropDownList to update the second SQL source, but I cannot work out for the life of me how to do it. Pretty much all of the code I have is ASP.
can i do this purely in ASP rather than using VB behind the scenes or do I need to use VB? I am pretty comfortable with vb.net but one of the other issues I have is referencing an ASP object from VB... so for instance if I had a text box in ASP, how can I read or change the properties of this object from VB?
FYI I am using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL/Server
I am currently trying to implement a small class attendance system, where the student names are taken from a database, stored in a List<Student>, and bound to a Repeater control. Each row of the Repeater contains two columns: The first is the student's name, and the remaining column contains a RadioButtonList with three ListItems (Present, Absent, Sick).Now, once the user presses "Submit", I want to be able to store their attendance status based on the user selection. I have created the form and this lets the user add only a single quote at a time, what I would like to do is give the user a drop down box to let him/her choose to add up to 5 quotes at a time. On Form1 I can get Form2 to open onclick but for some reason, when I put code into pageload for Form2 to pull data from Form1, it won't work. I created a DAL that calls into my database. I then have my BLL which calls into the DAL. This is then hooked up to two drop down lists, where drop down list 2 items are dependent on the selected item from dropdown list 1.
I used an objectDatsource to be the object that loads the data into the two drop down lists. If the user selects Quentin Tarantino in drop down list 1 then drop down list 2 would only show Pulp Fiction, but how could i get the correct star to be displayed based on this selection?

I manually entered the drop down list items, but in the configure/choose data source I don't understand how you make a relationship between each list item and the corresponding database table you want to show.

A checkbox field has been added, when the user selects one or more rows, a submit button (which is not working) needs to inserting those records into a table. The insert statment will work outside of the page but is not working using the scenario I jut described. Is this task as I have outlined doable?
