Razor: @Html.Partial() Vs @RenderPage()?
Dec 21, 2010What is the appropriate way of rendering a child template?And what's the difference? Both seem to work for me.And why does @Html.RenderPartial() no longer work?

View 2 RepliesWhat is the best way to add javascript at runtime from a view (or partialview)? For example i would like to build a partial view Banner.cshtml that use Banner.Js. Actually i am using a section into layout page but obviusly if i use 3 times the same partial view i have 3 reference to external Js. Is there a "best practice" to include Js from "child" elemnts like partial view in this case?
View 3 RepliesUsing the Razor engine how do I create Partial Views. Do I create a normal View and calling the PartialView() in the controller will only output the body content and when calling View() in the controller will output the full page with layout. If not, do I need to create specific Partial Views and then use RenderPartial in the View.
View 6 RepliesWhy are Razor views not generated as partial classes? Making them partial classes gives us the option to have a code behind where we can do some of the stuff we're forced to do in the template itself in the code behind file.
Yes, I know the standard "go-to" thing is Html helper but I don't want to use Html helpers for these things as they are too specific to the view in question and besides, having a clutter of extension methods is just not the way to go.
I'd like to see Razor views generated as partial classes.
Im currently using a method that looks like the following code to add script and css files to the head of the Layout file.
[Code]....
My problem is that this is a static method meaning it persists the list of stylesheets and script files.
I need to do the same thing that this does but without keeping it persistant.
I need the lists to be remade on every request since they change from page to page what the look are on that specific page.
Is it possible to clear the lists on every request prior to adding the scripts that are needed or maybe after they have been rendered out?
Update:
The reason for not using a section, RenderPartial or RenderaActions is to prevent the same stylesheet or script file to be added more than once to the Layout file.
The site im building has a Layout_.cshtml with the basic layout. This in turn is used by a View that loops through a list of items and for each item a RenderAction is called that outputs the specific partial view for that item. These partial views sometimes need to add stylesheets and scripts.
As there can be needed to add many different scripts and stylesheets from different partial views a global list for styles and scripts were the only way i thought this could be done so there is a global place to check if a script is allready added to the collection or not and then render them all at once in the order they were added.
Update 2:
The real question is how to do the same kind of function (a global list) but without using a static Extension method.
On my projects I am using Razor View engine and I need to define custom Partial folders:
[Code]....
I had this because there was a problem in MVC 3 Preview. Was it corrected?
How should I register the Partial Views in MVC 3 Beta?
This question appear when I worked with partial view (MVC3/Razor), but I am sure - it's clear Razor Syntax question, not related direct to partial view. So - I have partial view Menu.cshtml with full markup as:
@model IEnumerable<SportsStore.WebUI.Models.NavLink>
@foreach(var link in Model)
{
@Html.RouteLink(link.Text, link.RouteValues);
}
No problem - "parent" view call it @{Html.RenderAction("Menu", "Nav");} and all work as magic.
But, if I will edit the Menu.cshtml as:
@model IEnumerable<SportsStore.WebUI.Models.NavLink>
@foreach(var link in Model)
{
Html.RouteLink(link.Text, link.RouteValues);
}
(see - NO '@' before Html.RouteLink!) all just broke: now @{Html.RenderAction("Menu", "Nav");} output is totally empty, no one HTML tag. Want to know - what is the difference between two piece of code? I assume @ before foreach also automatically "drop into" and apply to Html.RouteLink as well? So - am I wrong?
With Razor, how do you conditionally quit or end or return or break a partial view?
@if (Model == null)
{
return;
}
Whats the difference between Html.Partial and Html.RenderPartial?
[Code]....
I am trying to use a partial view for a file upload in a Create View.
Here is my partial view, I removed the submit button, as the view it is rendered in, should activat the form post:
@model dynamic
I try to generate this HTML code with Razor:
[Code]....
This is my Code in .cshtml, i have to select the "current" Style and insert <span> </span> tags wraping item.Text, but it doesnt work ....
[Code]....
I am currently writing a small templating system in ASP.NET to allow users to add content. For example, the user can enter the string (variable type is string).
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. It is now!";
However, one change that's needed is the ability to add some basic HTML tags within this content, so the following can be done
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. <strong>It is now!</strong>" or
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. <a title="Football News" href="URL">It is now!</a>";
If you add such things into strings now they are not formatted as HTML, but I want to somehow escape them so that they can be. Naturally I've looked on the Internet for the answer, but as Razor is fairly new there's not much out there to help me out.
I have the following code on a View using Razor view engine:
[Code]....
I keep getting the error:Compiler Error Message:CS1002: ; expected
Check out the following: <a href="/test?x=@if (Model.IsTest) { @(1) } else { @(4) }"></a> Is there a better way to write this instead of the @(1) and @(4)?
View 1 Replies HtmlHelperExtensions in MVC2 return a HTML string, unencoded.
In MVC3 this string is encoded! How can I return unencoded HTML to a Razor view in MVC3?
I have this C# code in a Razor view:
@(Html.CheckBoxFor<RazorSamplesWeb.Models.SamplesModel>(i => i.IsActive))
I tried translating it to this:
@Code Html.CheckBoxFor(Of RazorSamplesWeb.Models.SamplesModel)(Function(i) i.IsActive)End Code
But it's complaining. Why, and what is the right statement?
I have a custom Html Helper that takes a few parameters and generates some Html. For example:
[Code]....
This would render something like:
[Code]....
I would like to be able to define a Razor Template so the Html Helper renders the Html differenlty:
[Code]....
This would render:
[Code]....
I'm trying to write a simple declarative html helper: [Code]....
The helper works fine if I embed it into the page I want to use it on. But if I move it to a separate .cshtml file and place that file in the ~/Views/Helpers directory, my view can't be compiled anymore because the helper is not found.According to Scott Gu's blog article on Razor it should work.
The only workaround I have found so far is placing the Html helper in App_Code and Referencing it as @[MYHTMLHELPERFILENAME].Echo(...) . This works but is a bit messy since I don't want to repeat the name of my extension method (Echo.Echo("inputstring"), nor do I want to put all of my html helpers into one single file (something like MyHtmlHelpers.cshtml).It certainly isn't what Scott announced either, so I guess I must be doing something wrong.
I have this razor code ...
Code:
<ul>
<li>
@("hello <i>world</i>")
</li>
<li>
hello <i>world</i>
</li>
</ul>
When I run it the italic attribute works on the second item, but not on the first. I'm guessing it doesn't work because it's being passed as a literal string and the html formatting is lost.
How can this be made to work?
The reason I ask is because in my project, the text for the list item is stored in a database and I want the ability to include formatting for the item at the database level.
Code:
@Html.Raw("hello <i>world</i>")
However, I am not getting the result I need, so here is a bit more code....
Code:
@helper addNodes(dcNode As DocumentContent)
@<li id=@dcNode.Id>
@dcNode.nodeTitle <--This results in "White Papers - <i>New</i>"
@Html.Raw(dcNode.nodeTitle) <--The truncates the string at the tag and results in "White Papers -"
@If dcNode.children.Count > 0 Then
@For Each childNode As DocumentContent In dcNode.children.Values
@<ul id=@dcNode.nodeTitle>@addNodes(childNode)</ul>
Next
End If
</li>
End Helper
This is a recursive helper that populates node for a jsTree and works fine, but the inline html is not working. Here is what the result looks like.
The text for each li is shown twice because I am showing it once without and once with HTML.RAW. Notice the "White Paper" item... the second text is truncate at the <i> tag.Why is this and how can I fix it?
I don't know if this is possible but I would like to customize some of the HTML helpers autogenerated in the template. For example, I would like to replace the LabelFor with something that will allow me to specify an image with the label and also a ToolTip property so when you hover over the label you get the tool tip.
View 2 RepliesIt's great that Razor HTML encodes by default. However, many times I have HTML in a database and want to display it literally on a page. In WebForms 4, we can use <%= %> and <%: %> to choose between encoding options. Raven's syntax is currently @(new HtmlString(Model.Greeting)).
add a shorter syntax to Razor. Something like @=Model.Greeting or @@Model.Greeting, or something else.
I currently trying to convert a ASP.NET MVC2 application to ASP.NET MVC3 razor. I have a lot custom Html helper methods, which render html output, like the one below, which renders a button with some markup :
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder("<input type='submit' id='") .Append(buttonId) .Append("' name='" ) .Append(buttonId) .Append("' value='") .Append(buttonValue) .AppendLine("' class='myclass1 myclass2' />");return MvcHtmlString.Create(sb.ToString());
, i created a html helper in mvc3 project with razor view
[Code]....
and i am using this in view but error is occuring.
but it works in aspx view engine and mvc2.
I'm having problems getting my CSS class to style an actionlink inside a html.partial. In building my test site, I've used the template beginning from ASP.NET and the standard login portion. My Index page works fine as the _Layout.cshtml does reference my css page. In _LogOnPartial, I have the following listed (there is more but this is what's important I believe):
else {
<text>
<ul style="display:inline;">;
<li style="list-style:none; display:inline;">
@Html.ActionLink("Sign In", "LogOn", "Account", null, new { @class = "signin" })
</li>
My CSS for "signin" is:
.signin {
text-decoration: none;
font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
font-weight: bold;
color: White;
}
When I look at the source for the page after debugging, it shows:
<a class="signin" href="/Account/LogOn">Sign In</a>
That looks right but it's not showing it correctly. The font isn't Helvetica and it is underlined and not white. I don't reference the css sheet in the LogOnPartial but I didn't think I'd have too.
I'm just starting out with WebMatrix and would like to know how to style a @Html.TextBox("email") and @Html.Password("password") control? I've tried (in my CSS file):
.email{
/* styles here */
}
.password{
/* styles here */
}
But that has no effect at all. How can we style these types of controls?
