Recommendations For Implementing Complex Grid With AJAX Functionality

Jan 13, 2011

I'm considering going at this myself because my requirements are particular and highly customized:

The grid is bound to a collection of complicated objects, each of which may contain child and grandchild objects. Depending on data and context, the template'd cells vary from TextBoxes to ComboBoxes to Calendars to a combination of controls.TextBox cells have Google-style auto-complete functionality. Also each TextBox cell can expand into a small TreeView pane that allows hierarchy-navigating selection of a value should auto-complete be insufficient.Values from other controls can be drag-and-dropped into cells.Columns are re-sizable and re-orderable. Clicking their headers sorts data. All of the above is AJAX / client-side / Web 2.0 of course.

Has anyone built anything similar from scratch? Or used an effective tool to accomplish this goal? How well would Telerik meet my specs? Is it right to have the hunch that something this specific is best done by taking a Microsoft GridView and extending it myself?

C# - Common Functionality Recommendations For A Small-business Site?

where he sells paper products, as well as custom posters, banners, and the like. He doesn't have a website, so he's hired me to create one for him, where users can place orders, check the status of their order, etc.Other than his requirements, I'm trying to come up with other common functionalities that I should include in the site; things like a company blog, an admin section containing a simple CMS and error tracking/logging, a contact form, etc. Just common things that would be useful for a business site that he (or even I) might not think of

Implementing Forgot Password Functionality In Mvc

Apr 3, 2011

I want to implement a forgot-password feature in mvc that allows users to reset their password, and have some questions in this regard: Lets say that before allowing users to reset their password, I want to verify some extra information such as their first and last name. This info is not stored by default in the table created by aspnet_regsql. What is the recommended approach to address such issues?

Should I store this kind of info in a separate table, and use table joins to verify OR should i modify the schema of the table generated by aspnet_regsql (how?) so that I don't have to use joins? Do I need to write a custom provider OR would that not be necessary? I have read at places e.g. in this post that instead of emailing a temporary password, an alternative is to email a URL that when clicked allows users to change their password. How is this done? How to ensure that the URL expires after 1 hour?

Web Forms :: Implementing Reliable File Upload Functionality Without Using Client

Sep 26, 2010

I want to have an upload functionality for uploading large files -- as large as 1GB. I see some sites successfully implementing reliable upload functionality without using any upload clients e.g. ActiveX, Java, etc. Some suggest, the secret is sending the large file in smaller and more manageable chunks to the server. If that't the case how do I handle that?

DataSource Controls :: Implementing "Google - Esque" Search Functionality In App

May 31, 2010

I've started some preliminary work on getting a Google-like search functionality into my app - ive never done anything like this before so i thought id be a good idea to run by what im thinking of doing at a high level

1) Using MS SQL 2008 w/ Full Text Search Enabled

2) ASP.NET MVC 2 app is using the Repository pattern, with Linq to SQL for data access I'd like for the user to put in one giant text search value, and the full text to do a search over multiple tables and return a mixed result (Employees, Organizations, Offices, etc)

3) I have a simple stored proc that does a Full Text Search on *one* table that looks like this:

4) My Linq to SQL datacontext calls this SP and which works well enough, i have no inflection or ranking going on but ill add that in later...

Q: How do i handle searching over *multiple* tables, doing some digging around it looks like Full-Text doesnt really allow for searches to span over more than one table - which kinda sucks..although ive seen some workarounds

Q: Is it ok to do a Full Text Search for every table i plan on searching through, and combining the results at the business layer (maybe using rank as sort)? I've heard of things like LUCENE but id really not like to do that at this time.

Silverlight Or Jquery Ajax For Complex Data Form?

Oct 7, 2010

So part of my web app centers around this very important form which is used to create a form. Its like google docs form. The user keys in a type (checkbox, textfield, numericfield) and a label and slaps it into the system, and it generates a form somewhere.

Its a little more complex than google forms, the field types are complex and theres a lot more to that form (It happens to be a form generator for a finance plan)

The app is, I was thinking of using jquery and jquery's own ajax methods to post the data, but I think it would just turn into a very hairy situation, I then thought silverlight, but Ive never done silverlight before but I am an experienced .net guy.

So what do you guys think, will silverlight be too tough for a first timer for this kinda thing? Or should I stick to jquery. Plus points for silverlight is its an inhouse lan app and this particular page will be used by people with very high bandwidth.

Also I'm on .net 4 btw.

AJAX :: Implementing AutoComplete On One Of Pages?

I don't really know how to do an AutoComplete function. I've searched on the internet, but none are simple, and none are quite what I'm looking for.

How To Send Complex Types To MVC2 Controller Via Jquery (Ajax )

Feb 22, 2011

I am posting a Jquery Json serialized object to my controller but not all of the data is getting passed. One of the members is a complex type that is also Json serialized. This is the one that isn't getting through to the controller.

Here is the class I'm passing to my controller via Ajax post. Note the complex type, RoutingRuleModel.

Problem: SourceCodeModel contains correct values EXCEPT for it's complex member: RuleModel, which comes back as a RoutingRuleModel with default (null or 0's) values.

C# - Implementing JQuery AJAX Calls In A MVC Website

Jun 22, 2010

what is the correct way to pass data through the AJAX calls and have it be model-binded into an object inside my Controller Action?

So far, I've read in some places that jQuery sends data in key-value pairs, so I don't have to do anything extra, while in other places, I've read that I have to first use a JSON deserializer and then bind the result. I've currently implemented my Controller Actions as ones that accept HTTP POST.

AJAX :: Implementing IHttpAsyncHandler With Partial Postback?

Jan 20, 2011

I have a web app which implements IHttpAsyncHandler for handling web service calls asynchronously, done according to this web page:

Now, my page is rather complex with many update panels, so when I initiate the AsyncHandler with BeginProcessRequest, the page does a partial postback, then when EndProcessRequest is called, another partial postback, everything is fine so far...

But when I navigate around my page and causes a partial postback between BeginProcessRequest and EndProcessRequest, nothing gets updated when EndProcessRequest is called...

In debug, EndProcessRequest IS CALLED in the server codebehind, but nothing updates clientside... I'm not even sure if it even caused a partial postback...

I'm a pretty big noob when it comes to this Async stuff, and I just followed the site above, so I'm guessing it maybe something behind the principle of how IHttpAsyncHandler works.

AJAX :: Implementing A Counter With An Update Panel?

To inform the user, i want a Label below the button that gets refreshed if something happens. This is my current code :

In the click handler, i have something like that :

However.. this doesn't work because there is no actual postback within the event handler.

Jquery - Implementing Ajax Calls Based On Scrollbar Position?

Mar 1, 2010

I have noticed that in Google web reader (that lets us read RSS feeds on the web), the page does not seem to load ALL the feeds. Instead, as I scroll down, I can see more and more feeds (and the size of the scrollbar increases if you know what i mean)

I assume they do this by finding the position of the scrollbar and do an AJAX call. Is this correct? How would I do this in ASP.NET?
